Phoenix, 3 Bedroom Woodland Cabin
Summary:
Phoenix House is a generously sized three bedroom home located in the Liberty Woodlands community in the upper Methow Valley, situated at the base of Lucky Jim Bluff. Choose this cabin for its convenient location between Winthrop and Mazama, nearby trailheads for outdoor activities, and peaceful woodland setting with peek-a-boo views of the mountains and meadows. New groomed nordic ski trail access is planned for winter 2024/2025 to connect Liberty Woodlands to the Methow Trails system.
The Space:
The home features an open floor plan with high ceilings and gorgeous wood trim throughout. The main living area on the ground floor features a well equipped kitchen, built in dining table seating 7, and lounge area arranged around a wood-burning stove.
Two of the three bedrooms are on the ground floor. The primary suite has a king bed and ensuite bathroom with a generously sized walk-in shower: sliding doors open onto a private deck. The downstairs guest bedroom has a queen bed and is adjacent to the downstairs guest bathroom. Also downstairs is a mudroom with laundry and ample space for boots and coats.
Upstairs is a bright day-lit loft area furnished with couch and desk, and with sliding doors opening onto a balcony looking out into the woodlands. The upstairs bedroom has a king bed. There is also a second guest bathroom upstairs.
The Neighborhood:
LIBERTY WOODLANDS
Liberty Woodlands is a community of residential and vacation homes, including a number of properties available as legal nightly rentals. Specific guidelines and policies that all guests and renters must adhere to at Liberty Woodlands include:
- 10 mph speed limit. This keeps the dust down and keeps kids, dogs, bikers, and walkers safe.
- Quiet hours after 10:00 PM.
- No tents, trailers, or RVs.
- Parking is not allowed on Liberty Lane or Ponderosa Lane. Please park in the driveway.
- Do not leave food or garbage outside. This attracts bears and other critters.
Liberty Woodlands will have access to a new groomed nordic ski trail linking to the Methow Trails system starting winter 2024/25. The trail will pass close to the cabin.
MAZAMA
The Phoenix is located 3.5 miles from the Mazama Store and the Methow Trails trailhead (for great hiking, mountain biking and cross-country ski trail options). In addition to the store with its great bakery and grocery, Mazama is home to the Goat’s Beard outdoor store (with mountain bike and fat bike rentals), the Mazama Ski School for cross country ski hire and lessons and the Mazama Public House.
WINTHROP
The old west town of Winthrop has great shopping, bakery and dining establishments; the Shafer Museum is definitely worth a visit to learn about the local history. Both ski and mountain bike rentals are available in town, and don’t forget the ice skating rink and Methow Rafting.
NORTH CASCADES NATIONAL PARK
Liberty Woodlands is also conveniently situated for easy access to the North Cascades and the trailheads to many of the Park's world-class hiking trails. It’s a 20 minute drive to the Cutthroat Lake trailhead, 25 minutes to Washington Pass and 30 minutes to Maple Pass trailhead. Great for beating the crowds and snagging a trailhead parking spot at peak seasons.
Getting Around:
Getting Here: May to November, from Seattle and the westside, you can drive over State Route 20 and Washington Pass (check WSDOT for closures). Alternate, and winter routes from Seattle are via I90, Snoqualmie Pass and Blewett Pass, or via highway 2 over Stevens Pass (check WSDOT for driving conditions). Combine these routes and you have the scenic Cascade Loop. The nearest major airports are Spokane International Airport at 180 miles (year round) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (190 miles in summer / 260 miles in winter). Regional flights are also available at Pangborn Memorial Airport in Wenatchee located 102 miles away.
Getting Around: Nearest trailhead to access the Methow Trails networks is just 2 miles down the road at Brown’s Farm where you can access the Methow Community Trail. The Mazama Store is 3.5 miles. Winthrop is 10 miles.
Other Things to Note:
Phoenix sleeps 6 guests in three bedrooms, two king beds and 1 queen size bed. Maximum occupancy is 6 adults.
The three bathrooms all have walk-in showers and double sinks, however, there is no bathtub.
WIFI: the home has fast and reliable starlink wifi internet.
EV charger. The house has an Emporia Level 2 charger with a J1772 plug. The owners use this to charge their Tesla, using a Tesla (NACS) to J1772 adapter that they bring with them (please ensure that you bring the necessary adapters for your vehicle).
This home does not have A/C, it does have ceiling fans and windows can be opened to provide cross-ventilation. There are also three box fans available for use.
The garage is accessible to guests, and is equipped with a ping pong table and ski waxing bench for guest use (unfortunately there is no space for guest parking).
There is NO TV
Coffee: there is a drip coffee maker and filters, plus a french press. Coffee is not provided.
Pets are NOT allowed. If you have allergies you should be aware that the owners do bring their dog when they stay.
For winter stays we have both snow plowing and snow shovelling services. Please be patient after snow storms as these local businesses have many properties to clear. Note new nordic ski trail access expected winter 2024/2025.
The Inn Pool - guests of our cabin may use The Inn at Mazama outdoor pool (open from Memorial Day to Labor Day) and tennis/pickleball court located at 15 Country Road in Mazama. The cost to use the pool is $10/guest/day and you should check in at the front desk before heading to the pool. The Inn also has a co-working space and private offices available to rent by the day in case you need space to work during your stay.

Spacious home with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms (2 ensuite). Well equipped. The Level 2 charger was a plus! Host was very responsive to email questions. Easy to get into the house with keypad. It's a gorgeous area, but be aware, it is VERY dark at night so best to arrive in daylight hours so you can find the street. You'll decide it is worth it!

Could have been awesome
It was close but too many things that were not disclosed. #1 the internet did not work from when we arrived they contacted the company who came out to fix it on Monday but told us they could not fix it until other neighbor hood construction was completed. Hannah stepped up and got me an office 10 min away but still had to travel at 6:00 am to get to meetings with Europe, rather than just take them in the area set up at the VRBO to do that. They also suggested another location that was not nearly as nice as this one where we already spread out for two days. They sent out a note that the pass to get there was closed but that the time to cancel had already passed so we could not cancel. We were aware the pass was closed and it was nice as the hikes, which is why we went there, were a lot less crowded. The note did not mention that the property was also on a boil water notice due to all the construction. Hannah did bring us bottled water when I indicated we were not really interested in boiling water for the duration. One of the smoke detectors battery was dead and beeping, Hannah brought a replacement with the water. The grill was a wreck with one bar completely missing, and didnt light and burn evenly. I was able to clean it and get it running well enough to use many times. Other than that the rental was clean and well equipped and very close to the hikes/activites we wanted to do. I would have given it a 3 but Hannah really worked hard to help us out so it gets 4
Wonderful! The house was so prwtty and clean. The nearby little town of Winthrop was cute and had good food. We enjoyed our 2 night stay to explore the NCNP.
