Where to start, they lost our booking so nothing but hassles on check in, they do not understand or speak English so communication is near impossible, the place is the pits, the carpet needs to be stripped out of the halls as never been cleaned by the looks of things, they advertise an airport shuttle but do not offer this service, both driers were not working and they didn't know when they would be serviced, rooms dated with cracked ceilings, peeling walls and lampshades. Extremely noisy and can clearly here rooms next door. Outside the window was all the old mattresses, toilets and rubbish. The social house and hotel next door attract some undesirable characters, no lift to carry suitcase downstairs. Pros - bed and shower ok, cleaners friendly, location good. Would I stay here again, hell NO.
If you can, DO NOT book here! Dingy, dirty, poor service. About the only good thing I can find to say is that they did remove the mouse traps (thankfully unoccupied), and they also asked the 2 drunks in one of our rooms to leave.... Oh, and they also double charged us and are not very good at answering or returning calls...
I will start off saying that some of the staff we dealt with were very friendly and tried to be helpful. However, it is clear that the management of this property really needs to be addressed. The main concern was the cleanliness of the room and the lack of amenities. Even though there were re-furbished rooms available, they put us in an old room with urine stains on the bathroom floor and dust bunnies that would attack you if they were hungry. While they did offer to move us to another room, all of our stuff was unpacked (and there was a lot of it) and we were tired so we opted not to take them up on their offer. Mistake. They came to the room three or four times to "get things right" but after that we stopped trying. The phone was never fixed, therefore not usable. Did not use the fan because of the dirt and dust lumps on it. And the odour in the bathroom was not very pleasant, and that was before it was used. I would not recommend staying here. Upon check out, of course no one who can make a decision is working the desk. I left a long note explaining my concerns and was assured that the manager/owner would contact me in a couple of days. It has been five days now and not a word.
You can not check in until after 3pm, the gentleman at the front desk is extremely rude and they loss your confirmed reservations, not just once but twice, then they lie saying that you never had a reservation even though you are showing them your confirmation.
This hotel is a good value, but unfortunately you get what you pay for. Mediocre room, relatively clean, strange odors. Very little parking. It is a central location. Overall, I would hope you could find a better value in the great city.
There appears to be a serious motel shortage in Whitehorse and we only managed to get a room at this motel because of a cancellation. All of the other motels in the area had "no vacancy" signs. The tourist-related industries in Canada (and Alaska) generally adjust their summer prices to make up for low bookings in the cold months and this motel certainly followed this philosophy. The property was quite drab (particularly the hallways), there was inadequate parking, the ice machine was broken, the room was clean but was Motel 6 quality at twice the price. Whitehorse did have reasonably-priced groceries, gasoline and restaurants,, but not lodging.
We are stuck here for 3 nights but I'm writing this so you don't make the same mistake we did and think you can just suck it up and stay anyway. This place is disgusting: - the bathroom smells like a porta-potty - there's a stain on the floor beside the toilet looks like a dried up urine puddle. We had the maid try to clean it but she couldn't get it clean - a used coffee filter was left in the coffee pot - there was no shampoo or soap in the bathroom - housekeeping doesn't clean the room daily - the telephone doesn't work - there is no alarm clock in the room - there was garbage on the bathroom floor - the fan was so dirty we had to ask them to come clean it - hardly any parking spots - the hallway is creepy! - there are metal barriers beside the doorknobs so people can't jimmy the doors open - it is adjacent to a seedy bar with people hanging outside all the time. It does have one thing going in its favour - it is close enough to downtown that you can walk there so if you manage to find a parking space you don't have to move. It's also right beside the river and near the Shipyards park. Oh, and the sheets were clean on the bed. So it has that going for it too. I told one of the store owners downtown where we were staying and she crinkled her face up and said "You're kidding, right?". You can't make this stuff up people. Run away from this one. They are charging us $116 a night (plus tax) but even $40 a night is overpaying for this room.
I do not recommend staying here. They claim they will refund the $100 security deposit once they check your room, but you have to call them and then they may or may not refund it. We spent about 7 hours in the room and literally left no trace other than the bed had been slept in. Definitely not the best value. It appears to be under construction, but I didn't see evidence of anyone working. The room was super clean; it had one bed & room for 2 more beds. The shower was clean & they had warm water. It may be worth paying twice as much at another hotel though, if they aren't so shady.
This is an older property. The hallways were a little dingy, but the room was fine. We had second floor room with a river view(right across the street). The parking lot is on the small side. You are just across the street from the river and the river-walk. Half a block from the main street and easy walking distance to restaurants and attractions. The hotel has a sushi restaurant, which we did not try. We only stayed one night, so I can't comment on housekeeping. The room was clean when we arrived. This hotel is fine if you are looking for a reasonable price for one night.
Room was clean when we arrived for a 4 night stay and one of the best values in Whitehorse. We did not get our room made up once during the balance of the visit. When we asked, we were told they were understaffed. When we requested clean towels, we were told there weren't any. Grounds and parking lot were grungy and not cleaned. Beer cans and debris remained for several days. This place could be good, but I would suggest staying elsewhere.
