3.5 stars: My family and I stayed at the Viking Motel for a week to visit my sister who lived higher up the hills in Ventura. Pros - For the average nightly rate of ~$100, I was pretty satisfied with the rooms because they were spacious, clean, and equipped with full kitchens (full-size fridge, small dining table for 2, and a few utensils and dishwater) - Best part about these rooms were the super comfortable and clean beds with memory foam. - My sister and I stayed in room 15, which we liked for the 3 queen sized beds and the newly remodeled multi-spray shower that came with excellent shower pressure. - Reliable and strong WiFi Cons: - Thin floors- we had rowdy upstairs neighbors and the stomping and constant noises got annoying at times. - Don’t recommend room 17. The wall AC and heat unit was so loud at nights it was so hard to sleep, even with my earplugs and pillow over my ears. It sounded like there was a running laundry machine by our beds. Also, the shower was weird because the there was no floor separator between shower stall and toilet so all the water would spread out on the entire floor (pic attached) - Really poor soap - better bring your own toiletries Overall, would stay again but only in the upper level remodeled units with newer showers and quiet heat and a/c units.
One of my sons and I decided to drive down the PCH and end up in LA, but the first night we wanted to just stop when we got tired. My only stipulation was that our hotel would not be our usual Hilton-branded property, and we'd try a local "mom and pop" place. After a ridiculous traffic delay through San Bernardino we decided to stop in Ventura. I found "The Viking Motel" doing a web search. It was $89 for a room with two queen beds (it actually had three). Heads up: if you want fancy this isn't it. The property is old and a little run down. But our room was big, clean, and had comfortable beds. The manager could not have been nicer or more helpful. I was a little taken aback that our room's door was open but was told that was to maintain the fresh smell. The room even had a full kitchen (we didn't need it). Soap and shampoo were provided which was a pleasant surprise. The negative: the lamp beside the bed didn't work because the power cord has frayed and the electrical tape patch didn't work. Also the phone cord was broken but we didn't need a land line. The door was a bit dirty but that didn't bother us. The room had a large flat-screen TV that worked well. Parking was right by the stairs leading to our room. Finally, my son left his earbuds behind and the housekeeper found them and had them waiting for us at the office. There are grocery and pharmacy stores nearby, and we ate at an outstanding Mexican restaurant that was less than two-blocks away. This hotel is not in an upscale area, but I think this would be an excellent hotel for a long-term stay and for families. If we are in the area again we'd stay here again with no hesitation.
When I pulled up after doing a gig in Los Angeles, I fully expected to encounter an absolutely mediocre, down at the heels, mid-50s/early 60s piece of crap Southern California garbage motel. I was wrong and surprised. Nice touches like a recently renovated bathroom, vanity and kitchen. Soft pillows and a great TV. This place is not bad it all!
Nice Pleasant stay, love the bed, spacious and comfortable, easy to find, easy access to restaurants. Older style but all you need, happy to stay again. Good range of tv channels to choose from. Off street parking.
Really nice rooms in this motel! I interacted with Patrick during checkin and he was friendly and accommodating, really great service. From the outside this place looks like a pretty standard motel... but when you open the door you are greeted by a clean room with comfortable beds and a HUGE TV. Then you take the corner and find the kitchen in a separate room! I think the kitchen is bigger and better equipped then the one at my house. Looks like new appliances including a full size fridge. Great place to stop over between the Bay Area and LA.
We were just looking for a cheap place to stay for a night while driving through and were impressed by the quality of the room we stayed in! It was a spacious room with a kitchen and clean bathroom. Everything smelled fresh and we really enjoyed our stay here. The staff was professional and helpful. It was an excellent deal on the price!
We were really surprised when we arrived in Ventura and saw our hostel accommodation. The room was totally renovated and was really big with a nice jacuzzi and a big TV. The room was very clean and the bed totally comfortable. The kitchen was also nice and we had a lot of space in the refrigerator and for cooking. The bathroom was also very clean with a nice shower. We totally recommend to stay here, the staff is very friendly, too.
A must see, this place has a jacuzzi and a huge 50" tv, and that's just in the bedroom! It's clean, has a full kitchen and anything else you could want provided by friendly staff - I only wish the checkout was later so I could have another jacuzzi!
A place for special interest, if you want a dirty, filty place which should have been closed years ago, this is your place. If you goes on crack it's maybe OK, but if you have bad lungs and not forgotten your glasses, stay away, better to slepp in your car!
We were nicely surprised when we stayed here recently. The kitchen was full sized with updated appliances. The beds were comfortable and the room was quiet for being on a main thoroughfare. I would stay here again. We stayed in 2 different rooms and the one that was "handicapped accessible" was in the process of being updated (I'll do a separate review for this room). The people at the front desk were friendly and eager to please.
