I enjoyed my time there. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. I was quite happy to get one of the rooms with a balcony, if you don't mind the stairs, it is really the best room to stay in. The room was a little cramped... but I do think over all, best value in the city. I'd definitely stay there again, and hope for the same room.
We stayed here for 2 nights. Although the shower was tiny, the room and hotel were clean and comfortable plus we had a balcony overlooking Campo Santa Maria Formosa with a small produce stand and restaurants in the piazza. The staff were great, especially Stefano. Nice breakfasts served in a quaint dining room. Although not a problem for us, the hotel does not have an elevator (the 5 flights up and down were good exercise considering all the great food we were eating). The location was great with lots to see and do within 1 - 1.5 miles, including the Rialto Bridge, Doge's Place & St. Mark's Basilica. This was a great place to stay.
Spent two nights in the hotel. Staff are friendly and helpful. Good selection of food for breakfast. Hotel a bit dated but clean. Room numbers are a bit haphazard, not consecutive. Once we got our bearings it was easy to find our way around the island. About 8 minutes to Rialto bridge and St Marks. Use the water bus to get around,a lot cheaper than the water taxis.
Stayed here for a 4 night stay to Venice. The hotel is very well sighted for all of the sights and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Our room had an excellent view of the square in front and although we were on the top floor the absence of a lift was too bad (- think they may be looking to install one). Continental breakfast was provided which was more than adequate. Would definitely use again
Although a tiny hotel it had everything and more any tourist could wich for. Reception very friendly and accommodating. Helped with all sorts of planning, arranging and booking of attractions, dinner and transportation. Breakfast was very sufficient and lovely in the small dining area. Our room on the 4rd floor had the best view with a balcony of the setting sun and overlooking a vibrant market square. Highly recommended.
Hotel is in a central location that is away from the busy Rialto Bridge and the crazy busy section of San Marco. Hotel manager is extremely nice and helpful. No elevator in the hotel. Get more exercise climbing the steps. The hotel will take you back in time. The breakfast includes variety of pastries, deli meat, cereal, fruit and yogurt and coffees and juices. It was nice to start our day with breakfast.
Great location away from hustle and bustle. Room very dark and tired at back of hotel (16) was bitten first night then found mozzie thingy in drawer to plug in. NO instructions about anything in room...we could not even get air con to work INSTRUCTIONS are needed. Wasted SO much water trying to get hot water from shower or basin??!! However, room very clean and towels changed daily even though not necessary! Great choice for breakfast, but space tight in breakfast room. Lots of stairs but not a problem as we knew that before arrival. Would have recommended until last day, when we were told we could leave luggage during day as we had late flights. However, when we got back to collect and leave for airport was calmly told by manager that there were NO toilet facilities.FULL STOP. This is a problem in Venice when Public WC's are very few and far between and cost 1.5 Euros...we then paid 9 Euros for a pot of boiling water and two tea bags at cafe next door just so we could use loo!!!! No public loo's nearby. Staff and Manager very nice and helpful (until then...such a shame!)
Hotel Scandinavia is located on a wonderful church square within short walking distance of St. Marks, Rialto bridge and all the main shopping streets. The hotel is basic but clean and the rooms are shall we say on the compact side, It is however very reasonable and the reception staff were particularly friendly and helpful. Doesn't have a bar but does have a vending machine selling drinks including beer and prosecco !! Several bars and restaurants surround the hotel and a convenience store (Co Op shop) selling all the essentials and reasonably priced beers and wines is less than 5 minutes walk. A little tricky to find so my top tip is to learn the route from a recognisable land mark like St. Marks. Be prepared to get lost a lot in Venice but for your own peace of mind try to get lost during daytime hours. A little stressful wandering identical looking lanes in the middle of the night with a little too much vino on board. Google street maps in a Godsend so ensure your phone provider gives you a good data allowance and your holiday will be a lot easier . Reasonably good breakfast buffet served from 7 to 10 and seats and tables outside where you can sit and enjoy Italian street life. Front facing rooms have good views but the aforementioned vendors start early and will wake you. Also adjoining cafes have seating on the square and in fine weather people will be enjoying themselves into the early hours. Chances are you'll be one of them so no real need to worry !! Hotel accommodation is over 4 floors and there is no lift although one is being installed and mat be ready for 2018
The hotel is very clean and the rooms are quaint. the bonus was having a fridge in the room to cool drinks etc. The breakfast quality was great with a varied choice. There is no roof terrace but they do have seats and tables in front of the hotel where you are able to sit and enjoy a bottle of wine watching the world go by in Santa Maria Formosa Square. The staff are very friendly. The only downside is that there is no lift.
Booked this hotel 6 months in advance of trip as offered best value family room in central venice. We arrived via water taxi from airport with just a short walk to hotel. We were greeted very warmly by receptionist who was extremely helpful helping us to room and general advice on venice. Room quite small but ok for 1 night. Breakfast buffet style but very good and set us up for the day.
