Sorat Insel-Hotel Regensburg4.0 out of 5.0

Maybe it was partly due to the wonderful October weather we had, but this stay was as memorable as the pictures of the hotel make it look it will be. The atmosphere of the hotel is modern inside. All tasteful and attractive. But outside, it's the romance and beauty of the river, and old Regensburg just across the bridge. The views from our comfortable and well appointed room were jaw dropping at times. We loved the bar also (bartenders were very friendly), and sat outside to watch the people sitting along the banks of the Danube enjoying the sun. There are a couple restaurants between the hotel and the bridge also. We tried one and enjoyed a good German meal outside. We went to Regensburg as something a bit different from the larger cities we visited. We rented a car and drove from Wurzburg. Then drove on to Munch. Had fun on the autobahn, and visited a few small villages on the way. Regenburg was all we had hoped for (wow, those sausages by the river...), and when we show people pictures of this hotel, they always say it's gorgeous. Yes it was...
Quick PROs/CONs review: PROs: 1. Nice, quiet area and good if you have a pet (dog) due to near location of field/lawn to walk man's best friend. 2. Easy access to the aldtstadt (old town) 3. Nice, large room with modern amenities. 4. Good breakfast at 12 Euro. CONS 1. None really, but parking is a little tricky (tight spaces). Being American, just used to larger spots, but when in Rome......... Overall, nice overnight stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
Stayed here 2 nights. On the north side of the Danube, on a small island, just next to the Stone Bridge . Easy walk to town, huge room & bathroom, clean, well appointed. But it’s clearly a business hotel, based on the clientele at breakfast. Besides they charge 12€ per person for the usual European breakfast buffet. Although they did have sparkling wine. Charmless, functional, comfortable.
Hotel is nicely located on a Danube island in walking distance to the old and beautiful center of Regensburg. All is good but the shower is the old fashioned shower in a bathtub which in my opinion is no longer state of the art. But the hotel location is quiet and marvelous location. Breakfast is good also.
Simple, spotless rooms with a great view of the Danube river and the historical downtown area (especially at night). We booked on Expedia and got a great rate (but breakfast wasn't included - be aware of that when you book) - this hotel was totally worth the price. It's a very short walk across the old Roman stone bridge to all the fun stuff of Regensburg. The breakfast each morning was awesome - plenty of Bavarian favourites and the service is top notch. Coming from Canada, the double beds side by side with the individual blankets was a funny experience for us (instead of the typical North American big bed for a couple). Overall this is a perfect hotel choice if you're visiting Regensburg and want modern comfort and easy access to the town on foot. Food Tips: Grab lunch at the Historic Sausage Kitchen (Historische WurstKuche) on the waterfront. 500 yrs of cooking! Dinner at the Alte Linde next door to the Sorat Insel was amazing- Delicious beers and Bavarian goodies in a historic beer garden on the river.
Hotel has an excellent location, across the Danube from the town centre: an easy walk away. Very near two great beer gardens. The hotel bar and breakfast were delicious. Rooms were very clean, spacious and comfortable. In particular, this hotel had very efficient and helpful staff. The reception helped us arrange a day canoeing by calling a few number for us. It was much appreciated.
A well designed and comfortable hotel -- with great views of the Danube and instant access to the old city. No air conditioning but adequate ventilation through the generous window and fan. Very much enjoyed the last minute stay -- parking a plus -- great places to walk and enjoy the food, cafes, brewery, and great shopping.
The location of this hotel can't be faulted right in the middle of the Danube with super views over the old city. We had a junior suite made up as a family room on the ground floor. A good size, very comfortable. Friendly and welcoming staff. Unfortunately one of the windows looked out onto the bar area - this was fairly quiet when we were there but could be annoying. Location is excellent, a minute from the main old bridge across the river to the old town. The air conditioning in our room wasn't working which made it a bit hot - the staff tried to fix the issue and supplied a fan when they were unable to do so. On checking out we were given a discount without asking due to the failed air con so I am happy with how this was dealt with. There is a car park at cost but note if you have a roof box you won't fit in. Parking around is at a premium so you may have a bit of a walk. We were able to move closer in the evening. Note that if you have a wheelchair that the bathroom and toilet doors are very narrow and not very accessible. There is a disabled room but this was booked already when we made our reservation. It was doable for us as our son isn't so large we can't lift him, but for an adult it could be a problem. Breakfast was good - standard German fare with cooked meats, breads etc.
We stayed in this hotel for three nights. The view to the old town and the old stone bridge could not be better. The rooms and furnishings whilst large, are poorly lit, dated and lack flow though air on a hot evening. The bar man was very friendly and helpful in suggesting new drinks to try. Breakfast is a good venue, albeit if you coincide with a bus group staying in the hotel, then the lovely room is full and noisy, taking away from the ambience of otherwise a pleasant dining room. A surprise was prepackaged lunch bags available, at not cost outside the breakfast room.
We stayed here for couple of nights in two lots. Once at the beginning of our tour and then in another time in the later half of our holiday. First time, we stayed in Room 201. This is the presidential suite and it is huge. It has a wonderful view of the river Danube, the iconic Regensburg church and the old Regensburg city. This room is air-conditioned. The next time we stayed in Room 221 (Standard Room). This room does not have a view to boast off but was spacious and comfortable. The room is not air-conditioned but it did have a pedestal fan to cool you down during summer. The hotel has good breakfast and a awesome bar by the river.
