Original Sokos Hotel Viru

The hotel itself is nice and rooms ok, but the poor organisation at the check-in should be fixed. Everyone checks in at two o'clock which means that there are long lines for the next 1 - 2 hours. What if you would start checking in people earlier but activate the room cards later?

The room was clean and quiet. The fridge and the microwave were good for storing and warming up snacks between strolls to the city. Service was exemplary and the breakfast was quite satisfying. The room was in the old side of the hotel, and the hallway there smelled quite bad (especially when coming out of the elevator) , but that was the only gripe on our stay.

Hotel overall was fine, but they need to get the air conditioning working. Eventually got a key to open the window to get some air and cooler weather helped. Staff was friendly and helpful. It would also help if the lobby bars stayed open a little longer when groups are present.

Central location within walking distance to the old town. There is a corridor connected to the shopping mall. The room is a standard tourist class European design, relatively small. The shower area is also very small. Breakfast buffet does its job, nothing to write home. The fourth star is for the location.

Hotel is in really good location and is really good location and situated in famous (soviet times hotel) building. Has a story of one of first "western hotels" in Tallinn. But it's mainly it. Soviet feeling is still strong - rooms are small, sound isolation is poor, windows are not opening, bath is super small and etc. I was happy with breakfast, but while leaving i understood i ate breakfast of other hotel in the same building...

The medieval Old Town is a five-minute stroll across the road from the hotel. The bustling Viru Centre shopping centre, with its underground bus station, is found behind the hotel. The Helsinki and Stockholm ferry terminals and cruise ship quays are a 10-minute taxi-ride away. The style is unpretentious and comfortable, with an emphasis on reliable service and cleanliness. Multilingual staff (who speak English, Russian, Finnish, in addition to Estonian) provide helpful and knowledgeable advice. There are three saunas with whirlpool baths and guests have access to the gym in the adjacent Viru Centre. The Beauty Salon and the Beauty Centre are also on site, while entry to the the popular nightclub is free for hotel guests. Rooms, especially those on the higher floors, have views of either the Old Town or harbour. All rooms come with kettles, minibars and work desks. A breakfast buffet with porridge, croissants, bacon and eggs, as well as Estonian breads, fish and cheeses, is served in the Merineitsi Restaurant, where dinner entertainment shows are also staged.

I have always liked very much staying at Viru Hotel. It is run by professionals. They are prepared for everything that a traveller might require during his/her stay. Location of the hotel is perfect, too.My special thanks to to the cleaning staff.

Viru is a landmark in Tallinn. It's tall and huge - and that shows not the least at breakfast where there's an endless flow of guests and definitely not a calm moment. Not quite the way I like to start my day but that's how it is in large establishments. Our superior rooms with Finland 100years theme was OK, newly renovated but definitely not with exclusive materials. Views from the 18th floor were amazing though! Viru is really centrally located and not a terrible choice at all.

Nice lady in reception on Sunday evening 11 June. She was very helpful becouse my lague was dely. She provide me a basic tools to survay :) Please change the breakfast menu at restaurant. It was good time .

The new family rooms are spacious. We traveling with a big dog. There is plenty of room to accommodate 2 grown ups, 2 children and a bigger dog. We travel a lot with our fury friend and in Tallinn this is now by far my most favorite hotel to travel too when traveling with my dog.
