I spent almost a week at Rixwell Olevi Hotel on an autumn vacation. My room was in an annex across a small courtyard. The room was cosy and spacious. The was no AC, but it had windows. The bath room was spacious and had a bath tub. The room is not luxury, but quit alright. The room was cleaned every day, there was free WIFI and it was working OK. The room was quiet and well heated. It is a small hotel in an old, but charming building. Some of the rooms are placed in the cellars and haven't got windows or AC. But they are even more affordable than the room I had. The breakfast was OK, but very basic as the Estonian standard breakfast is. The hotel has its own restaurant in the cellars with a cosy, medieval atmosphere. The staff were friendly. This hotel is not a luxury hotel, but it is all right to stay at, it is very affordable and it is located very well right in the center of the old town.
Hidden at the bottom of some steep steps is Olevi Residents. The restaurant is nicely decorated and candlelit. The waiter was very pleasant and the service as quick as you'd expect if the food is all cooked fresh. We had cheese balls and dumplings to share and then Rissoto and Chicken schnitzel. All served hot and very tasty. Would recommend. Reasonably priced as well.
We chose this hotel after seeing their websites. Lovely building from the 14. th century with the perfect location in the Old town. This hotel is not for guests with bad feet because there is no lift. Our room was on the first level and it was a spacious double bed room with a good bathroom. Staff were polite and helpful. Breakfast was good with plenty of varieties. We will stay at Olevi next time too.
We've stayed here mid November for 3 nights in a twin basement room without windows. I was worried at first as I booked this cosy old charming hotel online when we were touring the Baltic states .. No windows, being underground etc .... How wrong I was !! I'm so glad to have taken the risk and my sister was delighted when we got to see it after a long tiring journey from Riga ... Nice and clean . Quirky . Reasonable rates . Lovely breakfast included. They even boxed it up for us ( including a bottle of drink )on our last day as we left very early in the morning to catch the ferry to go to Helsinki .... It's walking distance to main tourist / historical places , attractions. It was snowing very heavily when we were there which made it all the more magical. Receptionist is nice and helpful although her English needs a little improvement. Can't fault this hotel at all . Except if you have any little children , or walking difficulties with heavy luggage etc avoid the basement . Because you walk down a steep metal spiral stairs . For us this added to the charm of the hotel ... And we were traveling light .... I don't know if'd be this happy if I had to carry a heavy luggage so bear this in mind or get someone helping you ... Enjoy your stay ... Such a lovely city to spend a few days ...
We arrived here by default as the booked hotel had experienced a flood! The hotel, in the old part of town and very near the main square was unique in de or and setting. Our room, across a court yard was comfortable and warm, only disadvantage was no hanging space. However, the bathroom which had lovely under floor heating sported its own sauna. The breakfast was beyond continental and permanently restocked. Staff were friendly and helpful. We were unable to have dinner as the restaurant was fully book. The menu looked delicious
The hotel is quite cheap despite the good central location. That's all about positive things in this Hotel. For the rest the rooms are awful, and quite dirty. The smell inside is disgusting like somebody just finished to ate gorgonzola cheese and spread it on the walls. The receptionist should remember she is working in a touristic business not in a funeral center so maybe would be better to smile a bit more and answer to customers in a better way, not like i just woke up her from the nap time on the desk.
I'm glad I didn't read the grim reviews of this ancient, funky and sometimes confusing hotel. Or I would have found somewhere more conventional to lay my head ... and would thereby have missed a treat. Yes, it has many stairs, steps - and even a trip across a freezing courtyard for some guests to contend with. No, there is no lift. But the charm of this place is that it dates back to the elevator-less 14th. century. And the people at UNESCO forbid anyone to tinker with its ancient fabric And that fabric - old walls, beams and brickwork makes puffing along with the luggage worthwhile. We burrowed down into the building to locate our double room - No.8.We were amazed to find that the spacious bathroom, with under-floor heating, led to a fully-functional sauna! The bed was comfortable - but my personal duvet seemed to have a life of its own during the night. The breakfast was both good and substantial - hard-boiled eggs, porridge, ham, cheese, bread, limitless coffee, etc. Two people have called this hotel the worst they have ever known. But, surprisingly, it turned out to be one of my favourites. I shall only fail to returned when my athletic and stair-climbing skills have deserted me. Service? Everybody seemed friendly enough to me. Perhaps it is a case of how they are treated themselves ...We couldn't try the restaurant, as it was fully booked for the two nights we spent in Tallinn. But that wasn't a worry. The hotel is based in the heart of the Old Town, which is packed with bars and eateries. We have already decided to make a return trip. I shall ask for Room No.8 in advance.
Arrived at the hotel while the receptionist was on the phone, we waited a long time stood in the lobby. The bell boy was sat waiting and after a while he spoke to the receptionist. I guess he told her we wanted to check in because she put the phone down and then checked us in. I tried to say we have emailed the hotel twice to request a room level to reception due to disability and all she said was yes. So we set off to our room, down spiral stair case, some more steps and another flight of stairs to arrive at our room which was smaller that a prison cell!!! I phoned reception and told her I can not walk down all those stairs again. She said she will look what she can do. 10 minutes later she came with another key to a room that was still down the spiral stair case and a few steps. This room was much better however it had no window, there were holes in the bottom of the door for what I can only guess was for ventilation. The room was a much better size though. We asked reception to book us a taxi on day to go to Toompea hill. It cost us €10!! On our departure day we asked the hotel to book us a taxi to the airport which cost €6! I could not believe the difference! Good location to main market square. Breakfast was minimal which we expected and no serving spoons / tongs were out to pick fruit or bread up. I personally wouldn't stay here again as it does not meet my needs.
Great time, the hotel its quiet good located, very near the city center, easy to arrive, people very friendly .tipical estonian old house well keeped. staff very friendly and breafast men also very kind.good in general
A cozy hotel, very centrally located in the old city. However, the hotel is worn and a bit of renovation would not hurt. The breakfast is a simple buffet, type two kinds of bread, cheese, ham, yogurt, eggs, bacon and coffee. Restaurant staff are very nice and helpful. The same can not be said of all the front desk staff. Can think of staying there again. The hotel is not for those who hate stairs.
