Lovely quirky little 15 room hotel in a building that is over 600 years old. Unique location makes it a perfect spot for those wanting to stroll about Old Town Tallinn. Many shops and restaurants are in the immediate area. Restaurant in the hotel itself is really quite special so make your dinner reservation now! Nice wine list, impeccable service. Your stay includes a nice little breakfast in the morning. The star of the show is the black bread and should not be overlooked! If you tell them one day ahead of time they will make a loaf for you to buy and take home with you. Our room was plenty large and had a livingroom-type area between the bed and the bathroom with sofa, coffee table and TV. The room was very unusual and we enjoyed it very much. There are 2 things to be aware of: 1) there is no elevator and the routes to rooms can be narrow and twisty so lots of bags or very heavy bags are not fun -- pack light! 2) The road in front of the hotel is pedestrian only for much of the day. To catch a cab or get dropped off by one, you'll need to walk 5 blocks or so from/to the hotel. Again, if you have a lot of luggage this may be a problem for you.
Room was nice and cosy. Also staff was helpful. But we didn't enjoy noise, which was constant and disturbing early in the morning ( perhaps it was washing machine). Breakfast has run out of the food and it was visible that waitress couldn't handle the situation. Nevertheless we will definitely recommend your hotel- it is unique experience in the Tallinn old town.
What a lovely "getway" in Tallinn. We must have visited Tallinn at least 20 times and every time we have stayed in different hotel and eaten in different restaurant, but staying in Cru we had the both. The hotel itself is a lovely little pearl in the middle of Old Town in Tallinn, rooms are small, but the building itself is from the 15th century, so there your go. Rooms are all decorated differently, but with style and with modern toilets, showers etc. How nice it was to just walk downstairs to their lovely restaurant, no hassle with umbrellas and taxis, just a few steps downstairs. The food in the restaurant was delicios, would eat there again, really good service and nice recommendations for the wine. Breakfast was quiet, fullfilling and great service. We will stay here again, it was a perfect romantic getway for us! Many many thanks!
Perfect location half-way between the main entrance (Viru Gate) to the Old Town and the Town Square. Important because taxis are not allowed into the central areas of the Old Town and you don't want to be dragging wheeled suitcases far along the cobbled streets, particularly not in the rain and snow of December when we were there for the Christmas Market in the Town Square. Hotel CRU is a small mid-range hotel with mid-range prices but with a top-of-the-range restaurant. Superb breakfasts included. Rooms are not luxurious, which would be difficult to engineer given the quirky nature of this old building and impossible in this price range, but have everything you need including modern bathrooms. Our standard double room was spacious. Judging from the photos on the website, some of the more expensive of the 15 or so rooms look very good indeed. Staff very helpful and friendly. Thoroughly recommended.
A nice hotel in the heart of Tallinn's Old Town. It is connected to an excellent restaurant, which meant that the breakfast was superb. Service was friendly and efficient. My single room was very small and it wouldn't be fun to spend a lot of time in there, but I think it was one of the cheapest options so the other rooms may have been more impressive.
This hotel is situated in the old town which I would highly recommend... the location couldn't have been more perfect so for this, I would expect you pay a premium. However, given the 4.5/5 trip advisor review, we would have expected a little more from our room. With a 20% discount, the room was still €115 per night, and for this we we were in a very small room (room 7) - no bedside table, nowhere to keep toiletries in the bathroom, nowhere to store clothes or unpack... having said this, we made do just fine for the 5 nights we were there, and the hotel itself is just lovely, such an interesting building! The breakfast is small but very nice (the daily sweet treats are a lovely added extra!) - however one morning they ran out of bread and were unable to replenish so no toast?! (a pretty basic item to keep well stocked I would have thought?)... some of the staff could have been more smiley, however the lady who checked us out was so helpful and patient. Hit and miss! but overall we thoroughly enjoyed Tallinn and this hotel made a lovely 'base' - quiet and a good night's sleep which is the most important thing on holiday!
This is just one of the greatest place we have ever been! Also the restaurant by the Hotel Cru was really good. Rooms are special, some of them small, but still staying here is different compared to larger hotels.
This small hotel in the historic area has lots of charm. But be aware that with the quaint rooms and ambiance come at a price. The 2 flights of stairs were a challenge for a senior in our group and the room had several ledges in the flooring which tripped up a 30 and 50 year olds. Additionally, the breakfast selection was disappointing and not as good as the other places we stayed in the Baltics. Though we did appreciate the breakfast to go offer since we had an early flight
This hotel is located near the Viru Gate in Old Town. It is a short walk to bus stops that will take you to either the airport or the intercity bus terminal. It can be quite a walk from the door to your room, through twisting corridors and up and down steps. Our room was much larger than most hotel rooms. It featured a four-poster bed and a sofa with coffee table. There were two free electrical outlets for recharging gadgets. Everything in the bathroom worked properly. However, the shower stall is on the same level as the rest of the bathroom, and so the floor will flood when you shower. The safe in the room is a big heavy box, which you open with a heavy old-fashioned key. There was plenty of storage space for two people in a four-day stay. The breakfast buffet is not large, but it includes everything to accommodate the different concepts of breakfast that the guests will have. There is coffee Americano in urns, and the staff will make expresso, latte, etc. on request. There can be some noise early in the evening from the restaurant in the courtyard, but it doesn't last very late.
I stayed here as a solo traveller in August. I took the ferry across from Helsinki and walked to Hotel CRU and left via the airport. Hotel CRU is ideally located, so close to the old town square and castle complex as well as easily accessible from the ferry terminal and airport by bus. I arrived from Helsinki on the ferry and left through the airport and had an easy journey both times. The hotel is perfect for exploring the old town of Tallinn as it makes up part of the old town street. The hotel itself was somewhat a labyrinth to navigate and had no elevator which was a minor struggle for me with my luggage but it is definitely worth it to be located in an original Tallinn building. The room was nicely laid out, small but modern with everything you need including a safe, which is a huge plus for me as an international traveller. The breakfast was great, not a very large selection but everything I would usually have at breakfast. The staff at breakfast were also very friendly. The reception staff were helpful and attended to anything I needed. They were also happy to keep my luggage after I had checked out. I had a lovely stay at the Hotel CRU and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be amongst it all in Tallinn. A bit of a treat hotel for me and it was definitely worth it! I look forward to staying here again on my next visit to Tallinn!
