The hotel is really nice with an excellent location just across the old town. The room is really comfortable and the breakfast quite good. Value for money choice. The only thing i didn't like was the bathroom as the basin was too small and there was no shower tray. You have the option to choose the rooms with the bathtub and the street view instead the train station. Behind the hotel is Kalamaja area. Must see!
Not in the same class as three star hotels in Helsinki and Stockholm. But it may be a very good hotel for Tallinn. Estonia is part of the old Soviet Union and keep in mind standards are different. The hotel is clean and good enough for the three of us but spartan. Back facing rooms, standard rooms?, may be subject to train noise. We were "upgraded" to a room facing the roadway and old town. As mentioned before, it has a great location, train station next door, shopping center five mins walk, and a market next door. Old town Tallinn is 500 meter incline away in full view of the hotel. Pricey for three at 101 euros. Maybe a better value for couples. i would stay there again.
Lovely staff at this hotel - friendly and helpful. Rooms are basic but very clean and comfortable. Central location - RIGHT next to the main train station but also right next to the old town. Nice cafe/bar for a drink in the evening.
Horrible day and night like at engine room at this hotel. You can´t relax & sleep because of that terrible noise of the diesel trains under window! If possible take rooms from street side NOT station side. Breakfast was average. Never come back this hotel!
We loved staying here. We had the family room which was very spacious, quiet and comfortable. Perfect for a family of four, lots of space to run around for the kids in the room and baby TV channel. Close to everything you need - a supermarket in the same building even. Trains just outside the window didn’t even bother us, very quiet. Breakfast buffet was good and just what you needed. Friendly staff. I highly recommend this for a short stay in beautiful Tallinn. We didn’t want to leave!
I booked this hotel over 4 months in advance, we arrived there on the correct day at 16:00, after travelling from 06:00 that morning, to be told there was no room for us - we had travelled from the dock to the hotel, which is literally the other side of town, as we were catching a train early in the morning, to be told that a room had been found for us down by the dock.... If we had been contacted about this in advance, we still wouldn't have been happy, but would have dealt with it, as it was, it was very upsetting, & totally spoilt the start of our holiday - we were compensated with a 'free' taxi ride to the hotel that was found for us! I think it was pretty wrong that the 2 young girls on reception had to deal with this, with no explanation, &, I'm afraid, although I really like this part of Tallinn, I won't be booking at this hotel again!
This hotel is next to the station and in easy reach of Tallinn Old Town, the markets and the creative district. The superior room was spacious with hangers for clothes but only two small drawers and low narrow shelves for smaller items. No fridge or tea or coffee making facilities in room but drinks available from restaurant for small charge. Soap dispensers leaked and emptied overnight. The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel very clean. The breakfast selection was vast and some were piling their plates high as if was their only meal of the day. Across the road is a beautiful park with a lake and fountains leading to the zig zag path to the top of The Old Town. I would stay here again
As my partner isn't allowed to write a further review for 3 months I thought I'd continue the tale of our experience at the hotel Schmelly. So yesterday we were give more towels to mop up the leak in the shower cubicle. Today our room wasn't even cleaned and we returned to find a pile of soaking towels still covering the bathroom floor. This is absolutely the worst hotel in this price range I have had the great misfortune to stay in.
Our bathroom smells like a Bangkok drain in the monsoon. The shower is not fully enclosed and the strip of metal which is supposed to keep the water in the stall stopped an inch from the wall. Result - flooded bathroom, which took 4 towels and the bathmat to mop up. I told reception we had a flood. Result - 2 more towels. There’s one of those “let’s save the planet by reusing our towels “ stickers on the wall!!! It would take about 20 minutes for maintenance to cut another piece of metal to fill the gap and seal it, then 6 towels wouldn’t be necessary. And the lift doesn’t operate without the room keycard, so if you rush down to reception to tell them the room is underwater, you can’t get back till someone else arrives to share the lift. The room is spartan - I’ve seen better appointed students halls of residence - excessively overpriced.
Very nice hotel. Good location, near Old city. Nice staff. big rooms. Matress not so comfortable (soft). The view from rooms facing old city is nice. Rooms facing to train station have no nice view. Breakfast is good
