The Hughenden Boutique Hotel

We recently stayed here for two nights and. Was like staying in a friend's home. The staff were friendly and welcoming without being intrusive. It was cold and wet one day, and sitting by the fire in the lounge area was a relaxing way to spend a few hours. Water was brought to us without asking, wine, beer and spirits available as well as teas and coffee. Some tasty treats also available. The rooms are on the small side but adequate as we preferred the lounge area. Our room, number 26, opened onto a large sun deck with tables and chairs. Would be lovely on a sunny day. While only a few doors along from Oxford St we found the place to be very quiet. Close to buses into the city so perfect for those without a car. Off street parking available. Tea and coffee facilities available in your room, a fridge, good showers and quality toiletries provided. Excellent breakfast included in your tariff - serve yourself cereals, toasts, fruit, yoghurts, ham, smoked salmon. Yummo. Or you can order a cooked breakfast for a reasonable price. Happy hour each and lounge area are perfect for any visitors you may have. 24 hour service available. Great value so I would definitely recommend this hotel.

We were looking for somewhere close to our Son and Daughter in law's where we could stay for the weekend. Not only was the Hughenden within an easy walking distance to their house, it is also VERY close to Centennial Park, which is a world class recreation area, and also a beautiful parkland. Nothing was too much trouble for the Hotel staff, and they happily helped with our many and varied requests for assistance during our stay. Beth, Matthew, Maxine and Carolina were particularly helpful (which is why I asked to note down their names, so I could write and thank them later), but all staff were friendly, professional, welcoming and helpful. We will definitely be staying at the Hughenden each time we visit our Son and Daughter in Law (they have a one bedroom apartment, so we can't stay with them) and we've already recommended the hotel to friends and other family members. On a side note (not relevant to us, but may be helpful to other travellers). The hotel is pet friendly (which is unusal in Australia). We met a couple with a beautiful Golden Labrador. They are living at the Hughenden for a few weeks until they can move into their new house. They also said the staff "bent over backwards to be helpful and accommodating" with them and their dog.

Didn't stay at the hotel but enjoyed a lovely breakfast. Very relaxed atmosphere and great waitstaff. coffee and hot chocolate could have been hotter but the food was definitely great. It was a quite location even though it was near Oxford Street.

The instant I walked into the Hughenden I was reminded of a few grand B&Bs I stayed in a couple of decades ago when traveling across Britain. What a treat! I took a small suite (I was there for four nights and wanted the additional space), which led out on to the sun-deck - a great place to sit and work/read. The bed was very comfortable, the a/c (heating) silent and effective, breakfast was OK (but with eggs at only $4 extra, more than adequate) and the location perfect for the friends and family I was in town visiting. I didn't have an opportunity to have lunch or dinner in the restaurant but its rep among locals is solid. The staff and manager are ROCKSTARS! Friendly, so very helpful, with just the right amount of cheek to make you feel you are staying in a home, not a hotel. I'll be back for sure.

The Hughenden was a real surprise and whilst it isn't quite a four star experience (3.5) it is pretty good. The building is a lovely old character filled boutique hotel and the staff are very welcoming and friendly, and the extras generous - free breakfast, a bar for wine and cheese. The decor is lovely across the building as well. We stayed in a pet friendly room which was cosy - but in a boutique hotel, I expected compact rooms. While a little extra space would have been nice, the bed was comfortable, our outdoor area for the dog fine and the bathroom was freshly renovated (yes, it was compact). In all, while some people have complained about the room size, if you are overnighting in Sydnet or here for a weekend, I expect you will be out and about enjoying the city and nearby surrounds. Its across the road from Centennial Park and close to the Woollahra boutiques. We will be back.

Location is great and we didn't need to take the car out from the locked parking that was available. The room was comfortable and clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Continental breakfast was included. Would highly recommend this boutique hotel.

We stayed one night in this grand old hotel with our well behaved terrier before she went to the Vet Hospital at Sydney Uni. The hotel was very accommodating of our collective needs and nothing was too much trouble. The room was simply furnished but very comfortable, especially the bed. The staff were friendly and kind to humans and canines. This is such a good find for us dog lovers. I have finally found a nice hotel in Sydney, which not only accepts dogs but welcomes them. Big thank you to the owners and staff at The Hughenden Hotel.

This was our second time staying at the Hughenden and we'll definitely be back. It's the perfect location if you need to base yourself in the Eastern Suburbs. There are many restaurants, cafes and pubs within walking distance. The CBD is a short bus ride down Oxford Street and taxis are quite easy to flag down if you prefer. Centennial Park is across the road and Royal Randwick a short drive, around $12 in a taxi. The hotel staff are friendly, the rooms are clean and the free breakfast was a bonus. WiFi is also free. Car parking cost us $33 per night and soon after booking on line I received a phone call directly from the hotel to enquire if we would like to pre book a car space. It's best to take advantage of this because the parking is limited. The layout of the hotel is unique with many a corridor to be explored. The furnishings are in line with the classic style of the building and overall we loved the ambiance. If you are looking for a boutique hotel that is comfortable and affordable don't hesitate to consider the Hughenden.

This was our 3rd visit to an area of Sydney we love to escape for a night away from our busy lives. We made the booking through as usual and took a small double which was extremely clean but in a corridor so we were kept awake all night with the corridor light on and shining through the side of the blinds of the window above the door, woken at 7am to the cleaner rustling in the cupboard directly outside our room, people noisily walking on the tiled floor in the corridor as our room was in a thoroughfare between one part of the hotel to the other and is not carpeted and children shouting and screaming at 8am. If you stay here make sure you don't get room 12 or 12A!! Very disappointing as we have had such good experiences prior and we went back home exhausted! We nicely raised the issues with the reception as the hotel has been nicely renovated and were told they would look into things - I saw this as feedback, the receptionist said it was criticism - good or bad as she said. We're still waiting to hear from the hotel. Rebecca

My daughter and I stayed with our 8 month old puppy while our floors were being renovated. The staff were lovely and very accommodating. Breakfast was great and it was so nice to be able to have our dog sit with us inside while we ate breakfast, just like at home. The room was beautiful and clean. We found parking no problem on the street and ordered in a yummy pizza. I'd definitely stay here again.
