Coogee Sands Hotel and Apartments

Great location at northern end of Coogee Beach. Fairly basic hotel but nice and clean. Very friendly & helpful staff with 24hr front desk. Complimentary secure parking but spaces are limited, beware of stated 1.8m height restriction (hanging bar at entry) although our 4WD is just under that, there was a taller Toyota Landcruiser 4WD parked next to us, individual car spaces are marked at 1.9m. Would suggest a room toward the rear of the hotel as The Pavilion next door is very noisy. No breakfast or dining on site but plenty of great restaurants & cafes within easy walking distance. This was our second stay at this hotel and we would stay again. Highly recommend for location & value for money.

I recently stayed here Fri-Sun nights. Yes the location to the beach is fantastic. However the apartments are also right beside The Pavilion, a very popular bar and restaurant. Be prepared for loud music and crowd noise until midnight. If I return to the Coogee Sands, I will be requesting a room as far away as possible from The Pavilion.

Nice, clean hotel with friendly front desk service. The hotel is somewhat dated but great for a place to stay right on the beach and next to fun restaurants and activities. We stayed in the back where we couldn’t hear the sounds of the nearby restaurants; however, some of the front ocean view rooms were right on the street with balconies overlooking the hustle and bustle. We would stay again.

Stayed for the Australia Day long weekend and booked it less than a week before. We had a courtyard which was great had dinner outside. We requested a 2 burner cook top which was provided and used. Bathroom was clean tidy so was kitchenette. Our first night The sheets and cover were stained once notified reception Stephanie came to change our sheets and could apologise enough. Which we where understanding about, these things happen. We where given breakfast vouchers which we used on our last day which was great. The rooms are quite and well equipped I’d definitely go back location and service was great our room was ready before 2pm and where notified of this. Overall great stay.

Awesome location, right on the beach and only a short distance from cafes and public transport is almost at the doorstep. Complimentry beach towels at reception were fantastic Room we had had a courtyard which was a bit overrrated as view was 4 concrete walls. The room itself could do with a GOOD clean

What stands out here were the smiley faces and helpful staff as well as very comfortable beds! I don't think I've ever stayed anywhere in the world where every single staff member from cleaners, to receptionists were genuinely friendly and always happy to help out. Our room became our home for 11 days. Large enough to hang out in when a couple of grey days happened, with a small kitchenette and sofa and plenty of flat surfaces for collectibles. For that length of stay it was great having washers and driers available downstairs - and the walk into the main street of Coogee, and the bus to anywhere was a 2 minute walk away. We did change rooms as our online booking room was noisy - be aware, this is a hotel in a busy beach suburb, next to the beautiful Coogee beach - what a bonus but, yes, very busy in holiday season. Also next to the popular Pavillion eateries and bars. For anyone happy with air con this isn't a problem, but we like windows wide open. However, in probably their busiest week they still managed to juggle bookings and move us to the back, where we slept well and loved our stay.

So close to the beach and parking was easy. We had a good rate so our stay was worthwhile. Difficult to sleep with the bar/Pavillion closing at 2am. Some drunk patrons woke us up. Great to get up early and walk along the coast then cofffee next door at the Pavilion; great atmosphere. The Pavillion gets really busy at night. Had trouble finding a good place to eat in Coggee. Will stay again but will drive somewhere different for dinner. The cafes are ok for breakfast and lunch.

The Sands is a wonderful spot if you want to be close to the beach and some lovely cafes. I did (some) of the Coogee to Bondi walk most days and it’s great exercise with wonderful views. A real must do even for the casual stroller. We had a room overlooking the road which is as close as you get to having a view of the beach. Sitting on the balcony in the warm evening air was always pleasant with lots of people coming and going to the Coogee Pavilion next door. This is not a 5 star hotel but it is certainly clean and tidy. The air-con works a treat which is an absolute must in the height of summer. Two frustrations though; 1. There are the least amount of cutlery, cups and plates they can get away with. Once you’ve had a cup of tea you have to clean the cup before you can have another one. 2. The internet is useless. The WiFi is almost impossible to get on and when you do, it is unusable. I presume they do not have fibre and their WiFi gear is old and can’t handle the load. We have been here before and will come here again. Hopefully my two frustrations will be rectified by then.

While the room we stayed in was a lot smaller than I expected (two adults and a young child - not enough room to swing a cat with us in there) and frankly in need of a refurb, the hotel's location is just great. Not too noisy despite being by the Pavillion, a 30 second walk to the five-star beach, couple of minutes to the restaurants in Coogee - the location was the big selling point for me and didn't disappoint.

Pros: near beach & overall good location. Cons: place is dated and wifi is terrible. I was there for work and could not use the wifi at all. As I was checking out, couple in front of me told front desk girl they were happy with their stay and she offered them free chocolate & practically begged them to fill out a review on Trip Advisor. When it was my turn to check out, she asked me if everything was ok, and I mentioned the wifi issue and she gave me the dirtiest look. A complete change in demeanour from the customer in front of me. I didn’t expect her to gush over me like the couple in front of me, but she did not even apologise. Stark contrast in service. To be honest, had she offered an apology and was nice about it, I would have rated them higher but she was just so unpleasant that they score 1 star from me. I would not stay here again.
