I arrived at 630 AM on a saturday after a 14 hour flight. I didn't expect any rooms to be ready but I wanted to at least drop my luggage. The two staff members at the desk, without being asked, went out of their way to make my arrival comfortable. they put my luggage in a safe place, the woman (Kiriam was her name, I think) fixed me a cup of coffee in the lounge. They said they thought they could have a room ready by 830 and they did. I had breakfast, and by 830 a room was made available. I stayed for a week and the staff were just as helpful the entire time. The breakfasts are excellent, the grounds are really beautiful and the setting is surrounded by walking trails and hiking paths. The path up Box Hill is no more than 50 meters from the front door. If you fancy a restaurant, the bus stop is just in front of the hotel and the Running Horses pub and restaurant is a 20 minute walk on a beautiful walking path.
We ended up staying here for 1 night last week when Denbies farmhouse had to relocate us due to a broken bed. When they told us I thought oh no a Mercure but I was pleasantly surprised. The room was comfortable and quiet even though there was a wedding going on. Breakfast had a lot of choice with particularly nice bread. All in all I think we ended up at the better place.
Myself and a group of ladies from our church went along to the Burford Bridge Hotel to have afternoon tea and we were very disappointed. We had booked several months in advance as there was 26 in our group and had expected to be all sitting together or at least in the same room. They cannot cope with such a large group as we were spread over 7 tables. We arrived about 15 mins before our booked time and then the others arrived within those 15 minutes. I had expected that we would be offered tea whilst we waited for the food but we waited another 30 minutes before we could have a cup of tea and then over 1 hour after our booked time the food started coming out. When the food did arrive they had not provided it on enough plates so they told us we would have to share, meaning that we had to get up and walk over to the next table and basically scrounge for food. They knew how many people were in out group and how many tables they had put us over, you would think they would provide the correct number of plates to stop us from having to get up. The room we were in was a public room with the bar at the end of it and we were disturbed several times by loud wedding guests coming to purchase a drink or two. Very disappointed with the whole experience.
I visited Burford Bridge hotel today to meet a friend. We spent time relaxing over a coffee then had a light lunch. Both of us are vegetarian and chose the vegetarian sharing platter.....absolutely delicious. During our visit we were looked after by a member of staff called Manuel. He was attentive, friendly and obviously well liked by other customers as well. We will definitely be coming back when we catch up next time.
Great hotel, perfect for Gatwick. The outdoor pool is amazing a great mini Victorian Lido and heated .. ... However across the board worst staff I have ever seen in the hospitality industry. Never a smile, check in on the 7th occasion " have you stayed here before" Bar staff , " have you any nuts or snacks" ... " well I've got these " And then you have David, or I nick named him Trevor, looked at me like I was a piece of dirt, last time I saw him , he was leaning against the door at reception totally oblivious of guests checking in and out. When we mentioned him to bar staff , it was " Oh you mean David" Last vist upgraded to a room that had some over hanging branches, on closer inspection, fixed by " David" with an old piece of co axial. A hotel that could so easily be a 5, but right across the board appalling staff, its a vey generous 3
I read the review on this hotel and expected better. The hotel is situated in a delightful place at the foot of Box Hill.some of the rooms are in an annex with views over the garden and pool. The rooms were spacious well appointed and clean. My issue was with the general cleanliness of the tables particularly outside. My friend and I looked for a place to sit and not one of the vacant tables had Been wiped with empty bottles still standing. We asked for one to be cleaned and it was. During our stay at that table for nearly an hour none of the other tables were cleaned... disappointing. The bar service was slow which resulted in a queue most visits to order and no option of table service. Because the dining rooms were taken up with functions the only eating option was the bar and not much variation in the menu each night. This hotel would be ideal for weddings and large parties but not for the occasional small group.
It was my daughter and her friends 13th birthdays and as they are both very keen bakers I wanted to treat them to an afternoon tea. I emailed and booked a table and said it was their birthdays. When we arrived it wasn't obvious where we had to go as no reception in the hotel, eventually found a member of staff who seated us in the bar area. Both the girls had dressed up in girly dresses so felt very overdressed in the bar area. It is decorated very beautifully but other guests were just in jeans or tracksuit bottom so didn't feel very special. The girls don't drink tea and they allowed us to order hot chocolate without any additional charge which was great. Our afternoon tea was on a cake Stand so not as the website shows. I was looking forward to see what the savoury delights were, very disappointing as they were just finger sandwiches. They were very fresh but the egg sandwich had very minimal filling. The scones were lovely and fresh and the cakes and pastries were average, did not look like the website photos. The biggest thing that let it down was service. Apart from taking our order we were not approached or spoke to too the whole time we were there, never asked if we wanted more drinks. Whenever I have been anywhere and they know it is someone's birthday they at least wish them happy birthday. It was an average visit but expected more would not go back for afternoon tea.
I stayed there one nigh only. Everything was perfectly clean and comfy. All staff was great, special thanks to Alice who helped me to get my forgotten staff back:) Food was great too, nice choice, fresh and healthy solutions available.
Good hotel, as you would expect from a 4-sta hotel. Yet I was not too impressed. There is not a real reception - just a table placed in the corridor corner. I was looking for the reception when I got there and was unable to find it. The people are very friendly and very helpful. The room was ok, but old and not really too clean to be honest - or at least it did not give that impression. There were large stains on the different seat cushions. I would not really go sit in those seats. The walls are really thin and I don't think my neighbour was that noisy, yet you could hear a lot. On the other hand the garden and the pool and the building itself look real nice and well maintained. Breadfast in the morning was well prepared and sufficient. Yet again, as I would expect.
Stayed here with my partner for her friends wedding was very nice area.Rooms where nice and clean with good shower. The beds where big which helps if your over 6ft.They had a brilliant day and night for there wedding. Will stay again soon
