Holiday Inn Guildford4.0 out of 5.0

I stayed at the Holiday Inn for 6 nights whilst my husband was in the nearby hospital . During that time the sheets were not changed once and on the 5th day my room was not serviced at all. The dirty cups were as I left them in the morning and bed wasn't made. I mentioned it to reception. They gave me some milk for the morning. On checking out I mentioned it again. The excuse was that they operate a green policy and don't change sheets for a 6 night stay which they consider a short stay. They apologised for not doing my room at all on the 5th day and wavered my bar bill of £14.95. I will not be staying there again.
We visited for the first time as a stop over from visiting our London family. We used a Secret Escape special deal ( discounted room, set dinner menu) and were given a free bottle of Prosecco in the room on arrival. The location was a few miles outside Guildford next to the University, hospital and Cathedral. Large free car park ( ensure you record your car reg plate at reception. We were staying 2 nights and needed to record 3 days). We had a large modern room with a sofa bed, tv , drink making and free good WiFi. Staff were friendly. Our room 360 was at the end of a corridor, above the swimming pool so we had the aroma of chlorine. Breakfast until 9 .30, was buffet with fried eggs being cooked for you. Tables were wobbly so people had tried to wedge them steady. The dining room was chilly in the evening as it was a frosty eve and we asked for the central heating to be increased. The most disappointing aspect was the health suite. I went to Sports Direct , 3 miles away to buy a costume as there was only limited and expensive stock at the hotel and was looking forward to a warm relax after visiting a nearby NT property and the Cathedral but found: the jacuzzi out of order ( pipe work problems) , the staff repeatedly going outside and leaving the door open as there was no handle on the outside . The outside cold air chilled the room and even the sauna! Only 2/3 of the pool was available as childrens’ swimming lessons were in progress, and then the steam room stopped working😂 Thankfully personable and attentive Rhys raised my spirts at dinner later with a free glass of wine😃 Not the best hotel stay but with some maintenance resolved this could be so much better!
It's a holiday inn, you know what you're going to get, what could possibly go wrong? Visit the bar and find out! Stayed here on advice from other business travellers and found reception was good, staff were very courteous and efficient but their company probably pays out for the upgraded rooms.... Bedrooms were basic but comfortable, decor was a bit early '00's so perhaps in need of some modernisation but spacious & clean bar the suspicious stain on the floor which looked a bit crime scene-esque. Buffet breakfast was good, dinner was reasonable and the pool & gym facilities were very good if not slightly remeniscent of an 80's leisure centre at the counter. It's only a short drive into Guildford itself and well worth the journey in but if you're planning on heading back to the hotel for a nightcap and snack then you might want to consider if your credit rating is up to it. Being slightly peckish I saw a sign on the bar for crisps. £1.80. Assuming this was a share bag or that perhaps they might be bought to my room on a silver tray by an English Butler I ordered some only to be presented with a multipack bag of ready salted crisps, usual vending machine retail price of 80p. This is a 125% mark up. Beer: £4. Crisps: £1.80. Reaction of colleagues who witnssed me having to break into a crisp £10 note: Priceless. I KNOW it's only £1.80 but this is a Holiday Inn, not the Savoy. I can only assume they are cashing in on those afflicted with late night savoury snack habits or endorsing some new Jamie-Oliver-inspired chipped potato tax. Besides it was £1.80 best used to contribute to the repair of a windscreen which cracked driving over the aggressive speed humps into the car park.... Staff however were excellent and the hotel itself is fine for the purpose. If staying in Guildford again I would stay here. Just buy a Walkers multipack down the road at Tesco's first......
There aren’t many hotels to choose from in Guildford and the one that we used to use in the town centre now only accepts bookings for two nights!? This is probably a bit better that your standard Holiday Inn as there is a decent gym and a pool as well as conference facilities etc. Staff were efficient and friendly. Rooms large, clean and functional. Tea & coffee making facilities in room but no safe. Free WiFi. Free use of all leisure facilities. Didn’t use restaurant other than for breakfast which was ok with a fairly wide choice. No coffee served in bar later on which was a bit strange. £189 just for the room which was a bit steep but all in all a decent hotel.
Hotel is clean and comfortable and staff couldn't do enough for us, it isn't far from the town and if you want to drink it is a £7.50 taxi ride each way. We didn't get chance to visit the Spa but it looked very well equiped.
I stayed here recently and had a great time. The room was clean and spacious. The hotel has an amazing character and is not greatly set. The Spirit Club has a lot of great fitness options. Food was delicious and very fresh. The restaurant staff was polite and friendly, service swift and a great product knowledge. Reece, Shawar and Jamie looked after us.
Didnt have much options when choosing a hotel to stay in the proximity of the hospital area. However I was not disappointed to be honest. Good service in the room and at the bar. Nothing special about the room bit clean and OK beds. Quick check in and check out, taxi’s sorted within a few minutes.
I switched to this hotel from the HI Farnborough. Find this hotel a much better standard than the Farnborough hotel. Rooms are of a good standard and bar / restaurant is better. Good parking for guests and better value. Gym is well equipped. Everything you will need for a business trip.
My family stayed here for 2 weeks as it was close to the Surrey Sports Park where the World Cup was taking place. The staff were very friendly, the food was very enjoyable (as we had the meal plan) and the staff were very accommodating when asked. We were made very comfortable and the rooms were very spacious and very clean. I would recommend this Holiday Inn if travelling near Guildford.
I stayed at the Guildford Holiday Inn about 30 times over the last year due to work. I found it as follows Pros - Usual HI benefits around cleanliness, standardisation and service standards - You know what you get and it meets expectations - They let me keep a bag in the back to keep my toiletries in! Cons - Eating in the bar is a bit chaotic and towards the end of my stays it was obvious they were understaffed - I always found the reception staff a bit sniffy. it was not uncommon to spend 20 minutes to check in at peak, with no apology - I became a spirit elite member due to the number of stays but only got an upgrade on 3/4 occasions - The decor is outdated. The bar area is dark mahogany and needs updating Overall, its not a bad hotel but I did prefer to stay at the Guildford Harbour
- Free WiFi in rooms and public areas
- Free parking
- Onsite dining
