We did like the hotel and location I think for our purpose was excellent; i strongly recommend to check the department before you star to open your bags as I found couple unpleasant habitats in the department I had.

Room 206 very tired, for the money there would be a lot better, outside area was dirty, kitchen roof problems covered up with cardboard, mouldy curtains, towel rail hanging off wall great location but for a mantra the standards were extremely low

We just spent 5 nights at Zanzibar and loved it! The best thing about the hotel is the location, right on the esplanade across the road from the beach. We found the staff to be excellent in their service. I reckon they were the friendliest and most helpful of any Australian hotel we’ve stayed in. We stayed in the 3 bedroom courtyard apartment and were happy overall with it. We did have problems on the first night with the air conditioning not working but the staff were great and it was fixed by 12pm the next day. We found the dishwasher did not clean very well, but I think it was more to do with the powder provided and lack of rinse aid. Yes, parts of the room and facilities are starting to look a little tired (we had pieces of corflute screwed into the kitchen ceiling for some reason) and some new investment would improve the look and feel. But the location, the service and the basic concept of the hotel (clean, comfortable, self contained accommodation) made for a wonderful family holiday and we will definitely be back.

I've stayed here (and the sister building next door) many time over the last decade, unfortunately IMHO its suffering from a woeful flack of underinvestment. This time I stayed on apartment 904 for the best part of two weeks. The view of the beach is as good as ever, however… These are the issue I've found in the 1st 2 days. In the first bathroom, toilet leaks water from the base. The Wood work on door frame is mouldy and damaged Air-con did not work All the white goods appliances are very old and has seen better days The utility cupboard has in interesting fetcher in that the back wall falls off as soon as you open the door exposing pipes behind The leather Sofa is ripped The en-suite bathroom has mould around the shower cubical, (that you almost need to be a Olympic high jumper to get in to) No plugin the sink not good in an area that trying to save water The safe does not work and the door is hanging off Staff friendly and professional as always Really not worth the over $200 per night, if only they would reinvest some of their fees in maintenance I'm sure it could be good again. Just to prove my point on how dated it is, it still has a VCR, in the lounge, it must be funny when kids stay here, asking their parents to explain what it is.!

Great hotel and location we had the 3 bedroom apartment which was perfect for all the kids. The room only came with limited wifi which did affect our stay as our kids love wifi. Apartment was not serviced daily which would of helped as we had to keep asking for towels and toilet paper. Apartment had everything we needed. Pool was at back of hotel and not very big.

Great location. Right by Mooloolaba swimming beach. Lots of restaurants and little shops situated under the hotel. The apartment had a beautiful see view and lovely balcony to sit and watch the view. Advantage of a fully fitted kitchen to make our own meals when wanted. Kids loved the beach and the hotel's pool.

Firstly, please make sure you read ALL reviews for this property before booking. While it has many 5-Star reviews, most are related to Zanzibar's admittedly amazing location and views. The accommodation itself is another matter entirely. Secondly, please keep in mind that most (if not all) apartments are privately owned and not all of them will be in sub-standard condition. You should ask for one that has been recently refurbished if you get in early enough to book. Try to avoid 202... OK - My review... We have stayed at Zanzibar many times over the last ten years. Needless to say, our first visit was bliss. The property was relatively new and everything was perfect. The next few times, no problem either. Three years ago, we ended up in a renovated room which was fine, but we did note that the entire building was starting to look tired. This year? We got a room that had zero changes since the apartment was built. We did ask the front desk if other rooms were available but given the peak time, only one was free the following night but in her words it was 'much the same'. We were well aware that the higher rates over the school holidays was a reflection of the property's popularity so paying $400 night wasn't an issue. However, this particular visit has tipped us over the edge and we would rather pay that sort of money for a better maintained apartment in the street behind Zanzibar. Vacation Horribilis... As soon as we got inside, the room showed such obvious signs of wear and tear that if there was a Bunnings nearby, I would have been tempted to patch up some cracks and give the room a once over with Sugar Soap.Then I remembered that it was us who was paying $400 per night, not vice versa. Through to the living room, I immediately noticed the rug under the glass coffee table which clearly copped one too many misplaced coffees in its time. We asked for the rug to be taken away as we preferred to walk on the (cleaner) tile. The helpful front desk lady suggested that the rug was probably due for a clean. More like some kerosene and a match... We settled ourselves in and while we knew we had to contend with a Queen Bed (only one property in Mooloolaba seems to have King Beds), once we sat on it, it became apparent to us that the mattress probably hadn't been changed since the apartment was built either. The bed creaked terribly. We braced ourselves for five nights. By the second night, we needed to see the nearby Thai massage shop. We were close to demanding that management replace the mattress but endured two more nights of uncomfortable sleep instead, hoping our bodies would adapt. My husband ended up swapping with one of the kids as the single mattresses seemed less beat up. As for the kitchen, the kitchenware, crockery and cutlery were in 'make do' mode. There were barely enough plates and forks for six people, and it looked like kitchenware consisted of things that other guests bought and left behind. Over a 5-night stay we would have expected at least one housekeeping service but we had none. To be honest, the whole place needs a full vacate clean done as it is covered in dust. The blinds near the kitchen was caked in dust and various kitchen splatter. My son normally doesn't suffer from allergies but every night before going to bed, he would start sneezing and sniffling. No issues at the beach, but come bedtime, the Zyrtec came out. The outdoor area was sorely in need of care and didn't enthuse us to spend time out there. The tiles were cracked and the grout poorly repaired. I didn't even want to check out the BBQ on this occasion. The main outdoor setting was cheap and nasty, and the totally unnecessary smaller set looked like something the owner decided to dump in the courtyard. Nothing about the outdoor area enthused us to spend time in it. We didn't bother using the spa. However it's the indoor where money really needs to be spent. The furniture is comfortable but after ten years, the upholstery looked like someone used a desaturation filter on it. The vanities and cabinetry were all chipped or peeling to some extent and the laundry bi-fold doors were broken. You needed to apply a martial arts technique on it to close it properly so as to block out the washing machine noise. Other issues were mostly first-world problems (ie - the miniscule Samsung TV in the main living area...). The rooms sizes are OK and the apartment is a nice hangout but no longer one that you want to spend a lot of time in. Sure, one should be out at the beach but if you get some rainy days on the coast, you will find yourself indoors. The place simply needs some money put into it to make it a pleasant experience again. We ultimately hightailed it down to the Gold Coast a night earlier as we wanted to enjoy our holiday (and wake up without various body pain). The front desk was genuinely concerned that we waived one night and insisted that management would get in touch. Mantra? We won't hold our breath. Very central location. Clean apartment, beautiful view out to the beach, very spacious living area but pokey bedrooms. The main shower is over a spa and very difficult to get in and out of. Service was very good.

We stayed in a two bedroom terrace apartment. These are on the second floor with an open terrace area like an oversized balcony with in built spa/jacuzzi. It overlooks the street. Didn’t have a problem with it. The fittings in the kitchen show some wear and tear but what place doesn’t. The only big thing I noticed was a lot of limescale in the ensuite shower with what could have been some mildew. Likes the location with the shops, cafes and restaurants right downstairs. Even has exclusive guest only bathrooms off that area. Surprisingly with all that being underneath our terrace the sound doesn’t seem to travel up on a busy night so we weren’t disturbed at all. Right across from the beach and the local supermarket is around the corner. We’re already booked for April 2018 this time in a penthouse apartment. Looking forward to it.

Excellent positioning to beach, shops and restaurants. Comfortable well appointed apartments. Secure and clean facilities and public areas. Staff very friendly and helpful. Affordable rates and undercover parking appreciated.
