I was shocked to open the balcony to a beautiful beach on The Straits of Mackinac. It's October so too cold to enjoy the beach, but beautiful none the less. Then to see the sun rising over the Lake! AMAZING! It's connected to the Hampton Inn and they share the elevator, or you can choose to use the stairs. Comfort Inn offers free breakfast, with seating at tables on the beach as an option. However, you also have the choice of having breakfast at the Hampton Inn, which has a very large dining area. And a nice variety of food too. Would be great to go back to this motel in the summer and enjoy the beach. Lots of restaurants and shopping in the area. Plus you can visit the Mighty Mackinac Bridge. A beautiful site in itself.
We were there for 2 nights visiting from Florida. We had a double queen with balcony on the 1st level. Room was very clean and updated. It is located within walking distance to the Star Ferry that takes you to the island. You can even buy your tickets at the hotel desk at a decent discount. Hot breakfast was decent as well.
The beds were super comfortable. The view outside our porch was spectacular this morning. Pleasant people at the desk. Breakfast was same foods we have come to expect but the eggs were the best buffet type eggs. It poured yesterday so there was a bit of a water problem in the landing going up to our room. The walls were quite thin so we heard our neighbors talking. But we certainly would come back.
This was a nice place to stay. The property is close to the water. The lake view was wonderful. We enjoyed opening the sliding door and listening to the waves. The standard queen room had a balcony with lawn chairs. The refrigerator was a nice size and cold! The Trolly picked us up, at the property driveway, for a minimal charge. We went on a great tour with Mike the Trolly Driver. The hotel booked it for us. We highly recommend this tour. The staff was helpful and friendly. The breakfast was included and adequate. The property is in walking distance to many shops and restaurants. This was a nice place to stay with reasonable rates.
A typical lower priced (under $100) hotel. All in all, not bad, We know the reputation of mackinaw city, so no surprises. We do regret not booking the 'cabins' though. I think it would have added to our experience (bringing 2 grandsons). We stayed adjacent to the pool, but still did not receive a lot of foot traffic or noise. The placement of the 'free breakfast' was a trek to another property (shared) and above the indoorchildren's pool, which made the dining room very hot and humid. Being it was frequented by guests of numerous hotels (probably all owned by same company) lines were very long, seating was very limited. One minor hiccup with WiFi, but a short visit to the front desk resolved that.
Upon confirmed late arrival and room already pre-charged the check in attendant was very rude and unprofessional about running our credit card a second time! Not how one likes to be greeted after a long day on the road.
Nice location on Lake Huron with a nice clean pool area. Breakfast was basic but well stocked. No business center was my only issue. Walking to downtown was not far. Close to Arnold and Star line ferry's if your going to the island.
rooms were very nice, very friendly, they let us check in early would stay again . Just book early to get better prices. only thing we didn't like is you had to walk outside to the indoor pool, It was way to cold to do that, so we didn't use pool.
We've stayed at MANY Comfort Inns, and we have mixed comments on this location. I will start by saying that on check-in and checking out, Renee was very friendly and professional. Our room itself was rather small which was okay, but we didn't have much space to place our personal items. The bathroom counter was very small and there was a small circular table to put our personal items on. Again, on a positive note, the queen bed and pillows were extremely comfortable which was a plus. As for the continental breakfast, we only went the first day, and did not return for the 2nd or 3rd day. The breakfast area in the Comfort Inn was TINY and I'm not sure they had food in there because we went over to the Hamilton as instructed by the Front Desk if we chose to go there. It was a large, dark room that I believe they were trying to accommodate too many people with. The place was busy and I was not impressed with the choices there. We ate elsewhere on our last 2 days. We came back to our room late afternoon on the 2nd day and found the housekeeping young woman was still working on our room. She became a bit flustered and rushed through cleaning, but she did refill the tissue box and give us a roll of toilet paper we asked for. She was friendly, but I think a bit stressed from us coming back while she was still cleaning our room, but she did fine. The location itself was great since it was close to the Ferry to Mackinac Island and all the bay area restaurants and shops.
Most of our experiences at Comfort Inn hotels have been positive. This hotel was not the case. There is no elevator. You have to go to the adjoining hotel, use their elevator, and then walk thru run down halls to get back to the Comfort Inn. The lounge chairs on the beach were dirty and stained with bird droppings, totally unusable. The breakfast was a horror. The area at the hotel had 3 tables so they told us to go next door to the Hamilton hotel. Their room was large but there was a mob scene there as you can imagine with 2 hotels using the same area. Food was bad as well. There was no public computer in either hotel.
