If you are looking to "unplug", this is the place. A small number of cottages in different sizes, most of which open directly on the beach and ocean. Swimming and snorkeling gear are provided, and the "Sand Castle" hotel right next door has an awesome patio to enjoy sundowners while actually watching the sun go down. Understand that this isn't a Hyatt or Marriott but a locally owned and operated hotel which makes up for a squeaky door with a lot of heart and soul. There is plenty of parking, a supermarket within a mile, and the west side beaches are the nicest on the entire island. We stayed at the "Cottages by the Sea" for over a week and loved every day of it.

The staff was great. Could use some more options for food, but the Tuscan restaurant was delicious. We rented a car so we could go to town and shop whenever we chose.

Maintaining property seems to not be a focus. Electrical Switch plate in bathroom missing, shower lever is stripped. Under the bed was a layer of dust. Housekeeping was sporadic. Deck tables were not wiped down daily, garbage not emptied. Make up removal dark towels no longer offered. Beach towels are cheap and not absorbent. Shower gel bottles did not pump. The Fred’s location is a 5 , it is beautiful. The help is a 4 but there is not enough help anymore. You get the impression that instead of replacing deck chair pillows- they remove the pillows. Pool floats were in need of replacing and that was done the day we left. Overall- the condition of The Fred is slipping and that is frustrating because it is a favorite yearly destination. New music was introduced- live Jazz band and that was wonderful. No idle and dancing weekly. Fred has begun to cut to much IMO. And that is a disappointment. The food continues to be good yet the silverware is terrible. Maintaining the little things are no longer a focus. Cleanliness, returning the decks to original furniture configuration is not done consistently. The staff- most friendly and helpful if asked.

Very nice property and Veronica the receptionist was extremely helpful. I love her personality. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the Fredericksted hotel
