Stayed here from 10th until 12th. Lovely grounds - comfortable room, and nice reception area/bar area. Downside - very hot corridor leading to our rooms (218, 220 and 232). Sunday morning shower temperature was hardly luke warm in rooms 218 and 220. Our group were having a drink in the bar after midnight on 11th Nov and a very knowledgeable and professional barman named Sam served us at our table. We began discussing the drink options and Sam began to talk and suggest beverages that may be of interest. I asked Sam to simply rest on the pouffe while he was very pleasantly up-selling for the hotel. I was horrified when another staff member summoned him away and we saw Sam being reprimanded. Being familiar with the idea that staff/guest relations are good for business - I expect staff to have the ability to be sociable at least for a moment (whilst obviously remaining professional at all times and when the bar area is quiet) which it was!. Very disheartening.

Please see my photos below. They say more than I ever could. We stayed here on a family trip. The reception was lovely and all seemed good until we got to our room. It had a great view and lovely windows but... The toilet was splattered with brown dots. The front of the loo had browny yellow dribbles down and the floor in front of the loo was encrusted with what appeared to be urine or vomit. Later we found the sheets has brown streaks and the bottom sheet had a sticker on. The water mugs had white toothpaste /like sediment in the bottom. I generally leave good reviews and have for nearly everywhere we stayed but I would not like others to have to stay in a room like this. The next morning while people were still eating the jolly staff were scraping food into dirty old tubs off people's plates before taking them into the kitchen. Best Western please sort out this potentially lovely hotel which is in a great position.

Self service breakfast is excellent. The food is well cooked and tasty. Staff were very friendly and obliging with the coffee. A nice hotel but didn't stay overnight so can't comment on the rooms. Very convenient for the centre of Sheffield with plenty of car parking . Hotel grounds are really nice.

Stayed one night on business, these are the highlights: Good: - Gym and pool were good. - Breakfast was fairly good food. - Room was comfortable with ironing board included already. - Didn't have to provide pointless details at check-in. Bad: - Two bottles of water £8. - Got asked if wanted coffee at breakfast, said yes, it never came. - Did not get asked if stay was ok when checking out. - Shower in the room was scolding hot and extremely confusing to regulate temperature and pressure. - Sign outside lift listing levels does not match a single level to the sign/buttons inside the lift, very confusing. Overall, a good stay. It could be a lot better if it wasn't for some niggling problems listed above.

We had our wedding here. Very very dated and could do with a massive refurbishment. Staff are really hit and miss, some think they’re working at The Ritz while others look like they really don’t care. Food was awful until we complained shame really

I'm not sure how can people say anything g good about this place except grounds around nothing is acceptable. Such a dirty, filthy and unpleasant place to stay. It surely one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in and I regret that I did not have time to do my research before I have booked. See attached images

Stayed here at least 6 times now, always a different room with character, all amenities you would expect are catered for. Comfortable bed, good wifi, good breakfasts, courteous staff, hairdryer, safe in room for valuables, ironing board, iron, toiletries, hospitality tray, telephone. Hope to stay again.

Had the pleasure of meeting Sam the bartender, really made my night. Gorgeous drinks and he does special requests, including one of his own creations known as the Yorkshire Rose, I highly recommend it. If you’re here anytime soon and fancy something nice to drink be sure to ask for Sam at the bar.

I booked this hotel on the strength of the advertised gym facilities and was a little disappointed by what was provided. Other than that my stay was pleasant with a very friendly check in, and a decent meal in the bar. OK, but no immediate plans to return

On Saturday night, my husband and I had a rare child free night away, which is quite a treat. Having spent £130 on a room in a 4 star hotel, (room only.. that didn’t even include breakfast!!) we were looking forward to some well deserved R and R in a nice (clean would be a bonus!) hotel. On arrival, I’d definitely say the reception area is nice and the grounds are really lovely. That’s pretty much where my compliments begin and end. The pool area is really not very clean, and in fact the drains around the jacuzzi are nothing short of student house scummy. The stairs going up to the changing room were also filthy in that yucky ‘I feel like I might get a veruca’ way. However we aren’t too fussy so we ignored the dirt and had a dip.. and headed back to our room to chill for an hour before going out. Sadly due to the subtropical temperature the hotel is being heated at, chilling was definitely not achieved. Have you not heard of the polar ice caps?? Dear lord I’m sure Kenwood hall must be responsible for the death of a fair few of our polars bears. I think you printed your ‘green award’ off the Internet!! It was 16 degrees outside on our arrival and every single radiator was on to the point of it being too hot to touch. Which leads me to the furnace that was our room. I’m sure the the very bowels of hell would have been a few degrees cooler.. and I also suspect I’d get better customer service down there. We called reception once as we couldn’t get our radiator to turn off and a very pleasant maintenance man arrived with a wrench to turn it off at the other side of the radiator. Not really ideal but would have been fine, if it had actually worked. An hour later it was still blasting out heat so we rang again and was told ‘someone will bob up!’ We decided to order some food from room service while we waited. We rang the number 7 times, each time it rang so long it rang out. We then called reception to ask them if they could take our order.. they very helpfully put us through to the room service number, which rang out. So we gave up and ordered from just eat. We also called reception again about the temperature of our room. When my husband had to go out to collect the food he called to reception and mentioned that we were still waiting for the man with his wrench, but that he would like it if he could wait until he returned on account of me just getting in the shower. The ‘duty manager’ informed my husband that there was nothing else he could do, apart from ‘give us a fan and put a bowl of ice in front of it!!’ Im glad we hadn’t paid £130 for this... oh wait.. we did. I rang reception on my husbands return and was told ‘the manager is aware and is dealing with it and he will get back to you in 5 minutes.’ Maybe we had crossed wires.. maybe she meant 5 days?? I’m still waiting. We went out and returned some hours later to our little sauna and had a truly awful nights sleep as it was unbearable! Even the bloody mirror in the bathroom was emitting heat!!!! In the night I needed a drink of water, on account of serious dehydration starting to set it. Sadly none of the taps gave cold water and I really couldn’t cope with ringing reception or room service again. On top of the above the room was absolutely filthy and most certainly not worth the money or a 4 star rating!!! There was hair bobbles and clips on the floor under the dressing table and long dark hairs on the bathroom wall. I’m blonde. The fittings were rusty and old, the enamel was flaking off the bath and the ceiling was damp. I’d like to clarify that my major issue wasn’t the fact the radiator was old and wouldn’t turn off, it was the absolutely awful customer service we received. I work for the NHS and if I treated our patients in the way in which we were treated, they would die. We nearly did to be fair as it was so hot! It was a joy to get home to my children who nagged and pestered us all afternoon, whilst we sat in more ambient temperatures. I have emailed the manager and best western but have had no reply.
