Hotel Ruze5.0 out of 5.0

The Hotel Ruze is situated within the UNESCO world heritage site. There is a lot of "Old World" charm in and around the hotel. The service levels are not on standard. Our room was not ready for occupation at 15h30, although we were given the key! We had to wait for another 35 minutes before we could enter the room. Even then all the amenities were not available (shampoo, etc). The breakfast was awful - extremely poor quality and no replenishment when some dishes were finished.
This is an old dorm for the monastery now a hotel. We had a room overlooking the courtyard. Try to get one overlooking the back of the hotel with the river and park. Wooden floors and dark furniture. Period furniture. Comfy bed and a nice modern bathroom with nice amenities. Wonderful town to visit if there aren't too many tourists in town. Cobblestone walks everywhere so wear good shoes. Wonderful soft serve ice cream. Did breakfast buffet-not as good as other places we stayed. Seemed overwhelmed with number of guests. Restaurants nearby.
The Front desk staff was very helpful. That was the high point of this hotel. They advertise the rooms as being air-conditioned, and there is a device in the room that looks like an air conditioner, but provides almost no cool air at all. The hallways are cooler than the rooms. We were in a group of 24 people and almost everyone felt as though their rooms were hot. Other staff other than the front desk people seemed indifferent. The breakfast was so-so, with no one picking up used plates from the buffet. The room was serviced during the day, but no one bothered to take the used coffee cup or ice bucket we had begged for. I asked about having laundry service, hoping we could have a laundry do it by the pound, but no go. It's the expensive by-the-piece deal. I'd try someplace else.
First I must say that the 2 Martine's at the front desk are incredible staff. Knowledgeable, helpful, patient, considerate, the hotel is fortunate to have them as the first employees new arrivals see. Hotel's location is the best: quiet location, but 2 minutes from all sites. Hotel tries it's best, but simply cannot accommodate the HORD of visitors it receives on a daily (generally just overnight) basis. One small elevator, hundreds of people AND thousands of suitcases each day. Breakfast services is a fiasco. If you come at the second half of the serving time, forget it. Basically, just crumbs left. Worst eggs EVER. Second worst coffee EVER. A/C works (sometimes), and drips on the floor. It's NOT a 5 star hotel. "A" for effort, but it just doesn't cut it. This is a mid-quality, inconsistent tourist-horde hotel, just trying to do their best with their limited expertise, resources and staff. They're simply over their head.
We stayed one night at the Ruze, the hotel exceeded our expectations, the room was huge, included a spa and a throne for a toilet which was appropriate as the room over looked the castle. The room was incredibly comfortable and the staff very attentive, we would stay there again.
Blonde lady who checked us in was lovely as was the man at the bar (sorry, I don't recall names). other staff were all pleasant and helpful. Hotel full of character but could do with an overhaul for it to be considered 5 stars especially in regards to the bathroom. Loved the view out of our window. Great location with lovely viewing garden directly across the street. Gladly recommend and would stay again.
Hotel Ruze will be unlikely any other lodging experience most people will (or ever will) experience. Staying here was like imaging what lodging was for a traveler 100+ yrs ago. Of course, they have modern day conveniences yet the building is from another era. Prior reviews describe it as "rustic"; doesn't really accurately cover the feeling one gets walking into the lobby and up the stairs to your room (yes, there is an elevator). Felt like I was transported back into the Middle Ages. Certainly the town of Cesky Krumlov (CK) provides this sensation in spades. As for the Hotel itself, the staff are wonderful including Monika who checked us in with a warm smile and advice of where to go in, dine, etc. The room was very clean and the bed wonderfully comfortable after a full day of driving narrow Czech roads up from Melk Austria. Clearly, the place to stay in CK.
They have big rooms around the lobby and dining hall. All are decorated with religious saints statues. The visual, atmosphere and history of the hotel added a unique experience of our stay. Imo, this is a perfect choice for an overnight in Cesky. Hotel breakfast was great. And hotel offers a stunning "Cesky postcard" view ! There is also a viewing platform of the town and the castle from across the hotel.
Hotel Ruze is perfectly located in the old town. The Hotel is stunningly appointed and the staff are wonderful. The building has been beautifully restored and is welcoming and comfortable. Hotel Ruze offers beautiful views over the Vltava River and the town, with a park over the road with more gorgeous vistas to the old town and the castle. It is a short walk into the shops and to the castle. The restaurant is fabulous, with great food and brilliant service. A wonderful experience all round.
This hotel is rustic and charming. Don't expect a Hilton style hotel room. The rooms are very small, wooden beams, floorboards and a small bathroom. The room was clean and tidy. The room had no air-conditioning and was quite hot but we had no problems in getting a fan from the reception desk. Location was great and the hotel met our needs for the night we stayed,
