Hotel Ruze5.0 out of 5.0

IMHO, I cannot see how anyone could call this a 5-star hotel, given that it is in an old Jesuit dormitory from the 1700s. It is however, a fascinating building in the centre of a historic area. The Ruze is full of history and if you don’t mind very squeaky floors and in my wife’s opinion a feeling of being closed in. It had a good bathroom, although with the dangerous type of shower bath. Our small room (228) was unlike any of the pictures I have seen on their web site and generally noisy. Their breakfast was good. I have critiqued the hotel’s restaurant Restaurant Růže separately.
It's not even a 2 star hotel. By any standard, it's not a 5 star hotel. Even though there are no 5 star hotel in Cesky Krumlov, this hotel can't be justified as a 5 star. It's a middle ages hotel I understand. But the bathroom is dirty. The wooden toilet lid is very used and old, looks just disgusting. Please change it. There's no shampoo, shower gel, bottle water provided. Even the towels are put like used or at least not folded in a right way. The hairdryer is like vacuum cleaner. We stayed at 201 room. The tulle curtain in bathroom is too small and transparent to cover the window, so please expect to be seen while showering. The carpet in the room is very dusty, like baseball field dusty. Chairs in the room got blood stains on it. Both the gym and pool are too small. If you wanna use sauna in the hotel, you need to make appointment one hour before using and pay for the usage. Breakfast is no surprisingly cold and flat. However, there's an old lady waiting table during breakfast time is very friendly and helpful. Overall, it ranked the 1st worst hotel experience in my whole life.
Beautiful historical hotel with so much to offer. The staff is very professional, the rooms are very nice, clean and you feel like being taken back a few hundred years. Good choice of breakfast. In the historical center of this beautiful town with a short walk to the most amazing castle.
We stayed two nights. We requested a double bed was given with 2 single beds. When we approached the receptionist to change it was rejected. The location was very good. Breakfast selection was limited and cold. Will not recommend this hotel.
The hotel has interesting story, theme, and interiors. Overall looks good and everything functions but when you look closer, you will see some cracks or dusts. Service is good though. Cesky Krumlov is lovely in winter, a must visit place.
The hotel offers you everything you need but you would expect more from 5 stát hotel. On the other hand the building itself is awesome as well as the location. If newly refurbished it would deserve the 5 star rating.
Well Cesky Krumlov is a small town where you can practically walk everywhere. So in terms of location, any hotel or pension you pick to stay at Cesky Krumlov is alright. Hotel Ruze is a historical building with full facilities such as sauna and jacuzzi. Unfortunatelly we didnt experienced that cuz we chosed to walk around than stay at hotel. The selection of breakfast is nice. The staff are friendly. The room is unique with all antique furnitures adorned the room. As you walk around the hotel you will feel like really walking in a medieval era. Nice right?
Recently stayed 4 nights at this hotel (20-23 Dec 2017). We had a lovely room with a very medieval theme. Great location, clean and with great restaurant on site.During our stay I had to be admitted to the local hospital, leaving my wife alone at the hotel. The staff were fantastically helpful to my wife at this very stressful time. The relieving manager ( Yasser ) was incredibly compassionate. He acted as interpreter at the hospital, provided daily transport to the hospital for my wife, arranged for my wife to stay in our original room two extra nights at a very reduced rate and arranged for a hire car and driver to enable us to rejoin our tour group.. I will be forever grateful for the help we received.
After our arrival and seeing the room, where the double bed was simply two twin beds pushed together, we asked for an upgrade for a room that actually has a regular double bed with no crack in the middle (not even mentioning the two small separate blankets...). The hotel could be much more if they paid at least a tiny attention to detail. Everything felt cheap and as if they were saving money on the services. Let me list just some: Cheap tea, no coffee machine, no minibar, lack of essential toiletries, no drinking water provided, bed extremely uncomfortable,... Another disappointment was the bathroom & toilet. Putting a throne-like structure over the toilet doesn’t cover the otherwise poor looking bathroom with just a bathtub, some plastic thingy helping to prevent the water from getting everywhere, one shower head, and broken hand wash container. The worst, though, came in the morning. We were having breakfast (unexceptionally bad continental breakfasts) and the manager (I guess) of the hotel was going from table to table asking people whether they know about Trip Advisor and if they could write something nice about the hotel. I am not trying to sound posh and picky but if you pay for a 5-star hotel you expect a certain standard and value for your money.
We stayed at this place via a Backroads bicycle tour in July. It was warm outside. This hotel's AC was not keeping up with the heat so lots of fans were needed. The room while large was not comfortable. It was, however, whimsical with solid wood beams and a throne instead of a toilet (more to come about that later). If you are looking for a King Arthur's Court experience than this might make your list. If you are looking for a comfortable place to visit Cesky Krumlov look elsewhere. I complained about the heat in the room. I was treated like a second class citizen by the front desk. They relented and sent a representative to the room who made some adjustments to the HVAC system. It still was warm the entire two days we stayed there. Very uncomfortable. I'm a large person. Both in terms of height and weight. My wife is very tall but slim. The shower/tub was a joke. I could get about half my body in the shower to wash up. In fact I had to use the shower down in the basement by the pool to wash as I could not use the one in the room. If you are large just beware. Small folks only and I mean small. Another issue was the toilet. The "throne" as it was built had a wood frame built around it to look like a throne. Good luck sitting on this toilet if you are large. I couldn't use the toilet sitting and had to use the public restroom if I needed to sit. No other rooms were available. I asked several times to move. The front desk hated seeing me as I was very unhappy with the quality of this hotel. This hotel is not a 5 or 4 or 3 star hotel. This would be a 1 or 2 star hotel in any other place other than the Cesky Krumlov. Be aware of this and make your decision to stay there accordingly.
