After our arrival and seeing the room, where the double bed was simply two twin beds pushed together, we asked for an upgrade for a room that actually has a regular double bed with no crack in the middle (not even mentioning the two small separate blankets...). The hotel could be much more if they paid at least a tiny attention to detail. Everything felt cheap and as if they were saving money on the services. Let me list just some: Cheap tea, no coffee machine, no minibar, lack of essential toiletries, no drinking water provided, bed extremely uncomfortable,... Another disappointment was the bathroom & toilet. Putting a throne-like structure over the toilet doesn’t cover the otherwise poor looking bathroom with just a bathtub, some plastic thingy helping to prevent the water from getting everywhere, one shower head, and broken hand wash container. The worst, though, came in the morning. We were having breakfast (unexceptionally bad continental breakfasts) and the manager (I guess) of the hotel was going from table to table asking people whether they know about Trip Advisor and if they could write something nice about the hotel. I am not trying to sound posh and picky but if you pay for a 5-star hotel you expect a certain standard and value for your money.
We stayed at this place via a Backroads bicycle tour in July. It was warm outside. This hotel's AC was not keeping up with the heat so lots of fans were needed. The room while large was not comfortable. It was, however, whimsical with solid wood beams and a throne instead of a toilet (more to come about that later). If you are looking for a King Arthur's Court experience than this might make your list. If you are looking for a comfortable place to visit Cesky Krumlov look elsewhere. I complained about the heat in the room. I was treated like a second class citizen by the front desk. They relented and sent a representative to the room who made some adjustments to the HVAC system. It still was warm the entire two days we stayed there. Very uncomfortable. I'm a large person. Both in terms of height and weight. My wife is very tall but slim. The shower/tub was a joke. I could get about half my body in the shower to wash up. In fact I had to use the shower down in the basement by the pool to wash as I could not use the one in the room. If you are large just beware. Small folks only and I mean small. Another issue was the toilet. The "throne" as it was built had a wood frame built around it to look like a throne. Good luck sitting on this toilet if you are large. I couldn't use the toilet sitting and had to use the public restroom if I needed to sit. No other rooms were available. I asked several times to move. The front desk hated seeing me as I was very unhappy with the quality of this hotel. This hotel is not a 5 or 4 or 3 star hotel. This would be a 1 or 2 star hotel in any other place other than the Cesky Krumlov. Be aware of this and make your decision to stay there accordingly.
This hotel has a lovely central location close to all the attractions of Cezky. We visited with friends and there was quite a lot going on in the hotel with a medieval themed wedding etc. The hotel is big so not ideal if looking for a small romantic getaway. Breakfast was great.
We stayed for two nights and had two rooms, very large and medieval looking :) It is a so so hotel in a great location. Your car has to parked off site and the hotel does this for you but it costs about 10 Euros per night. You can walk anywhere in town from here. Two things that I didn't like, the breakfast buffet was huge but the scrambled eggs could have been eating through a straw, they were like soup both mornings. We had 2 rooms and both rooms had a sewage odour in the bathrooms, luckily I've had experience with this before and it's an easy fix. The bathrooms floors have drains, the trap in the floor drain eventually dries up over time because theres no water going into them. Take the coffee carafe and fill it with water and pour it down the floor drain, twice. The smell is gone within five minutes ;)
Besides being one of the very few hotels in this small historical town, there is no reason it should have a 5 star rating. By international standards, it's more of a 3 star. The location is great, and there's very few alternatives. It's unfortunate that this historical hotel could be so much better if it was actually cleaner and the staff more helpful. ALL the staff we encounters from the checkin counter to the waitress had a very cold attitude that felt that no one was happy working there. They could care less about the hotel guests. Too bad, it could be a very lovely place!
One of the few full Service hotels in town. Suites are spacious and well appointed, staff is friendly and accommodating, hotel restaurants food is very good but limited, breakfast has everything you need. Dog friendly and my Dalmatian also lives the place. Downside is despite it being legal for a hotel to have an unserviced smoking area inside, they have an outside area which is exposed to the elements, I might as well smoke in the snow. They should at least provide heaters and proper seating.
We loved this places. It is conveniently located, with friendly staff and comfortable spacious rooms. Antique throughout the building added to the charm. weather was cold when we were there but the rooms were comfortably warm. I had difficulty getting onto the internet on my phone but that may have been the fault of my phone.
My friend booked this hotel because it was declared that it must be visited during a lifetime. It was okay. Amazing, outstanding helpful staff, good breakfast and clean, but to me, my life would have been just fine if I hadn’t spent a night there. The pool was lovely- the 11 & 13 year olds were thrilled! The massage therapist was outstanding! Overall , good visit but pricey.
Cesky Krumlov is a place where you don't want to stay on the edge of town; you want to stay right in the historic district if you can. It's a pleasure to wander the twisting streets, tour the castle, and walk right back to the Hotel Ruze in the midst of it all. The Hotel, we were told, is a former 16th century Jesuit dormitory. Expect vaulted ceilings, heavy beams, tapestries, armor and religious art, etc. The Old Town is a pedestrian zone, so drove to the hotel's lot on the edge of the historic district, buzzed them to get past the barrier and walked about 5 minutes to the hotel. They would have sent a bellhop, but we had light luggage so didn't bother.
We were originally booked at the Hotel Old Inn, but were told on arrival that the hotel was full and we were being moved to the Hotel Ruze, a more expensive property up the street. This turned out to be serendipitous. The Ruze is a beautiful old hotel with a very friendly staff. We had a large, quaint two-room suite overlooking the town . . . a spacious living room, equally spacious bedroom, and a large bathroom. The suite was furnished with what seemed to be antiques. It was very stylish. The hotel is a short walk from the rest of Cesky Krumlov, including the castle. We enjoyed our stay here. The attached photograph was taken from our suite.
