Great location, beautiful lobby, pleasant room (furnishing), and pleasant front desk and cleaning staff. BUT, they are super stingy with air conditioning! The evening we checked in, there's no AC in the room at all. No matter what temperature we set the thermostat at, the room temp always registered at 74F. It might be an OK temp to sit around in, but def not what we'd want to be sleeping in under the lush feather bedding provided. Shutting off the air and opening the windows didn't help to cool down the room either, and only made it more humid. Turns out, the hotel had shut off AC because of the season change (it's Oct.) despite the fact that the day time outdoor temp is in the mid-70's the whole time we were there. The days after our complaint, we noticed that the air did get cool at some point during the day, but only for a few hours at a time. I'm sorry... if I'm paying a decent price to stay at a hotel , I expect to be able to set my own room temperature. This is not something the property management should dictate. I need that option.

We stayed in 9 different hotels during our recent 24 day trip to China. The Metropolo was one of the best ones we stayed, although all our hotels were a good value for the money. The Metropolo has a great location just steps for a Metro station. The staff was excellent and the room was clean and very comfortable.

Everything was good at check-in. Good location right next to the metro station. Everyone here is very nice.

Location is perfect, easy to walk to many touristic destinations. It's an historical building, dates back to 1900s and very well kept.

Best location in bund area -- it has very convenient location. We can walk to many tourist sites. Subway station is right below hotel. There are tons of good eating places on the street right behind the hotel. A few shopping malls including name brands within one block. Room is spacious and comfortable. We got all supplies needed including robes and slippers. Shower was nice and strong including a waterfall shower and hand held shower. Staff was very courteous and helpful. We felt welcome! Facilities are a little aged, but very clean and well kept. I will definitely stay here again. You cannot go wrong with this hotel if you want a nice comfortable place without paying a lot.

Room is smoking-allowed though I booked a no-smoking one. Besides that, great location and service but we need to pay for our laundry cleaning fee, about $40

We only stayed for one night, but it was a great experience. The hotel is right off the Yan'An elevated parkway, coming from the Hongqiao airport, and it's hard to miss. The building stands out amidst it's surroundings. The rooms were clean and obviously modernized. Wi-fi worked great. The view from our room was less than stellar, but we weren't in there often. Xintiandi was only about a 15 minute walk away, making it simple to get some local bars and restaurants. Overall great experience.

The hotel is very good. However, the staff speaks very bad English

We had two rooms for our party. One had no a/c and water on floor at entryway, 2' x 4' sized. Staff ignored problem and tried to blow it off. Did not even try to clean it up. Only moved to another room with great efforts complaining. The room had odor of mildew and stains on floor so it was not new problem. Other room had strong mildew smell. Maid staff is very nice, does good job every day. Dining room is very good but waaaay overpriced. They are only people helpful though. Desk staff is generally rude and unhelpful. Their writeup says they have converters for US electric appliances (cell phones and such), but not available. The attitude is more like bureaucrats irritated people come to them with problems. And we speak Chinese and understand what they were saying about guests! We have stayed at other hotels in China and know the general standards to expect. This place is only a 2 star rated hotel in our view. Not good experience for any amount of money savings.

Hotel is very easy to get too from PVG airport by either subway or taxi. Taxi cost is about 167 yen. Hotel is really clean and new with amenities of western hotels here. Bed is very comfortable with nice down blankets. Free internet and hotel amenities make this a great place to come home to while away. No problem speaking English here and currency exchange machine in bottom level is convenient to get rmb.

Tastefully renovated. Courteous service. One of the best locations. Inexpensive. The only complaint is the maid service because something is always missing after they clean the room whether it be a towel, complimentary tea bags, shower gel, shampoo, etc. I stayed 4 night and they clearly did not vacuum the room for that duration. Free internet service is great. Breakfast was not included with the booking so I do not know. Overall experience is GREAT HOTEL FOR THE MONEY!

Definitely will stay again...

This was the best hotel we stayed in during a 3-week, 7 city trip. Newly renovated, the hotel and rooms were clean and comfortable. Bed was very comfortable, western style not the harder Chinese style. Location was about as good as it gets. Subway stop is right across the street. Major shopping area in the French Concession a couple of block away. Many shops and restaurants in the area. Easy access to Peoples Square and Nanjing street. Especially good value given the prices of comparable hotels in Shanghai. We would highly recommend for either business or pleasure travel. Deluxe queen/king room was very spacious; almost a junior suite size.
