The Reagan family, one of Gatlinburg's most historic families, began building cabins around 1925. At the time, Otha Reagan worked stripping tanning bark in the Sugarland’s area of what is now the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and his wife, Emma, was a weaver at Arrowmont. In 1923, Otha and Emma had saved enough money $500 to be exact to purchase five acres of land on the Roaring Fork Creek where Brookside Resort is today. Just a few years later they began building small cabins and chicken coops on the property to rent to men who were in the area building the road from Newfound Gap to Clingmans Dome. These cabins were built with timbers from the Roaring Fork School House and Church, and some were built from log homes moved straight out of the National Park. Many of the Reagan family’s ancestors were even born in these cabins!
In 1971, Gatlinburg Southern Building Code required the remodel of nearly all the buildings in the area to a Bavarian type of exterior, so the Reagan cabins were updated to conform. Not too long after that in 1980, all of the original cabins and chicken houses were moved to their present location in picturesque Emert’s Cove by a local river hangout called the Flint Rock Swimming Hole. To make a few larger cabins to accommodate larger families, two of the original cabins were placed on each side of a concrete slab to form a bedroom and a bathroom, and the middle was built to form a living area. Don't worry, though, the cabins haven’t lost any of their history. rumor has it that old chicken feed bags from the cabins earliest years have been found in their attics! Today's owners are proud to bring a little piece of their family’s Gatlinburg history to your Gatlinburg vacation!
Named after Emma Reagan, this cabin features two bedrooms, each with king-size beds. There is also a full kitchen equipped with all your cooking necessities, and a comfortable living room with a futon and a flat screen television. We absolutely loved our stay at this place! The covered bridge is totally beautiful and we had a great time walking around the property and exploring! We will definitely book again in the future!
The cabin was very nice. I think it could have been cleaned a little better…cobwebs mostly. Also, we did not have water in the kitchen but we were there for a basketball tournament and didn’t have plans to use the kitchen at all. I did tell them in a text at checkout about not having water in the kitchen and didn’t get a response. So hopefully they took of that before their next guest arrived. I would definitely stay there again! Overall pleased.
I met the owner of the property who actually lives on site. They were very kind and friendly. It seems that the reviews for this home, Emmas house, were very limited when I booked so Im going to give you all some very much needed information. When we arrived, the interior of the cabin was not cleaned as well as it could have been. Being a housekeeper myself, I would make sure all the cobwebs were removed from the walls and under the beds. Swifter makes this to simple not to do. There were dead bugs under the kids and I beds and house spiders everywhere. The kids ceiling leaked water down into the light fixture. When I called the office, they were very polite and prompt. They had someone out in less than 15 minutes to fix it and the next time it rained; it didn't leak. Yay. The maintance guys looked at the ceiling in our bedroom, that's about to fall, and said they would have to wait on repairing it until we left. In the master bath, there is no storage whatsoever. I had to use the back of the toilet to store things. In the shower there is no caddy, I had to sit our shampoo/conditioner/etc on a washcloth on the shower floor. No storage in the bedrooms except night stands that had doors. You need to bring hangers bc theirs are on a rod that can't be taken off. Since I have lack of space to write everything here is some of the take aways. *Dehumidifer has to be emptied 3x/day *Stove is leaning bad, have to hold on skillet handle to keep it from running off eye.*No coffee cups
