Great Location

The hotel is right across the street from the locks and next door to the Lockview Restaurant. That was very nice for dinner and breakfast. We did not eat at the hotel for breakfast because we wanted something more substantial, so I can't comment on the food. The only problems we had with the room were minor. They did not have an area, or a stand, that was big enough to open our suitcase. Also, there is limited shelf space in the bathroom. Additionally, don't expect to actually "view" the locks. On the positive side, they have a nice little set up of a table and two chair outside the room on the walkway. These are outside every room. It is a nice sitting area, but the view is really just the parking lot and the street. I would probably give the hotel a five-star review if they had an elevator. We were on the second floor, and I have some mobility problems, so that made things a little difficult, but we made it work. You just have to walk out of the parking lot, and you can see them and, as I said, they are right across the street, so they are a very easy walk. The "name brand hotels" in the Soo are nothing special. I have stayed in most of them for business. We decided to check out a "no name hotel" and we would definitely stay here again.

The good: big room, comfy mattress, felt safe and slept well. The bad: room had a cosmetic update, but the bathroom needs work and had patched wall (unpainted) and black mold (that made sense because the shower tap didn’t cover the wall hole so ever shower water is running inside the wall), the pillows were lumpy (think too many washes lumps) and I was charged more for my pet than quoted. I’m not sure I’d stay again if I had another option, but in a pinch it was fine.

Small and old. Not much in the way of chair, tables or lamps. No bed head board. Very small bathroom but it was recently redone. Plywood wall patch. I had to ask for heat as the room was 64 degrees and the heater did not work. It should be rated as a 4 or 5 on a 1 to 10 scale. I don't know where expedia came up with a 8.8 but if they continue to rate rooms that way I will not use Expedia any longer.

We are pretty clean in our room, and we noticed a plain envelope placed on the nightstand with a note that said, "Have a nice stay." What is the envelope for? We were there for three nights and had one towel change, and the waste basket was emptied once. Now I ask again, " What is the envelope for?
