I had reservations for 3 nights. When I got to the hotel, I was told that they can honour 2 of the nights but they can't accommodate me tonight. The front desk couldn't give me an appropriate answer as to why this happened. But it sounds like I was bumped because I arrived later in the day and other people had priority over my reservation. They sent me to a Quality Inn which definitely wasn't quality. It was in the middle of nowhere. Telling me you will pay for my night at Quality Inn, any long distance call up to $10, and taxis to and from both places doesn't make this situation better. I can hear everyone in this lousy place! This is horrible service.
It was my first visit to the Bess. We stayed New Years Eve, nice staff, smaller quaint rooms and a very comfortable bed. So comfy. Needless to say we stayed up a little later than usual, hoping to be able to sleep in and wake up with our internal clock. Unfortunately that was not the case. There obviously was a dog allowed to stay on the 4th floor, because its barking was our alarm Clock. So disappointed. To top it off I’m 100% sure I left my shirt on the bathroom door hook and after a call and an mail with the hotel I was told they didn’t have it. Now I know for certain I didn’t unpack it when I got home sooooo there’s only one conclusion. Anyhow just had high hopes and it just didn’t pan out.
We stayed at this hotel for one night in early December and were very happy to visit this historical hotel. The exterior building is beautiful and in a lovely location on the river, next to a park and ice pad, offering multiple walking trails. In spite of the weather, we very much enjoyed our walk in the area. Our room provided a great view of the street all the way to the mall. The room though small, was comfy and well appointed with a good size TV and bar fridge. A safe would be a nice addition. The lighting was dull, and the bathroom was small, with a pedestal sink, and noisy plumbing as is common in older hotels. Despite these limitations, I would love to visit this hotel again in in the spring and splurge on a river view.
I love downtown Saskatoon, but usually stay across the street at the Sheraton or down a couple of blocks at the Radisson. We booked a meeting here, and the service was great. I’d stay here on personal travel as well, but wouldn’t even shop for business meetings - it is perfect.
We stayed at this hotel from December 7-9 of 2017. The hotel was super charming and very beautiful. Our room overlooked the main street and you could see all the way down to the mall. We had a small turret in the room and the room was quiet. The beds were very comfortable and that is extremely important to me. My only complaint was with the taps in the bathroom. The aerator for these taps need to be replaced with something else. The water comes out in a bunch of tiny streams with hardly any pressure. It makes it extremely difficult to wash your face and even rinse out your toothbrush after brushing your teeth. Also the taps are very old and didn't turn off and on properly, it was very hard to get the water temperature correct and also hard to turn off and on. The carpets in the hallways had just been freshly steam cleaned as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was arriving during our stay. It made the hallways very moist and musty smelling, but that was all gone by the next day. The Club Lounge was very good and had a great array of food and drinks. We would defiantly stay here again.
Hotel is beautiful and charming. I have never stayed in such a large historic hotel before and really dug it. Great furniture, great beds, loved the bathroom and found it very bright and well lit. Had room service breakfast and was very pleased. Hope to stay again.
Stayed at this hotel for two nights in early December. First stay ever in Saskatoon and this hotel did not disappoint. We had a 2 queen bed room which had a great view right down the main downtown street from the 5th floor. The beds were very comfortable and pillows were good as well. We had access to the club lounge and went there for breakfast on both mornings. The food at the club lounge breakfast was the best we have experienced in Canada. It was close to the offerings at some of the European club lounges we have used before. The room was quiet and clean with good amenities in the bathroom. Front desk staff were friendly and efficient. We didn't eat at the onsite restaurants but did have drinks one night at the lobby lounge and service and drinks were good. The hotel is right at the end of the street downtown near the river. It looks like the river area would be very scenic in the summer time. The hotel was a short walk to the downtown shopping mall , and plenty of restaurants and pubs are close by. If I ever stay in Saskatoon again this is where I will return to.
The reason people go to this hotel is it's historical character. Going back to a time when everything wasn't manufactured in China and made of pressed fake wood. This hotel is one of the nicer hotels in town but lacks all the character that makes it special besides the exterior shell. Don't go here if you are looking for a unique experience. Everything has been replaced with cheap, mass produced and dull materials and furniture.
This hotel is beautiful in the sense that it has lots of historical features, and that is really the charm of the hotel. Big windows, vaulted ceilings, crown holdings, historical elements.. All of this is really great...BUT! Try and get ready in the small bathroom with a pedestal sink and dim lighting.. Not very luxurious or comfortable in anyway. Hotel needs a bit of a facelift.
I love this old hotel! It has so much charm and character. The staff is friendly and helpful. The location is great with beautiful views of river and easy access to walking trails. If I’m ever back in Saskatoon I’ll be staying here again!
