Chromata Up Style Hotel5.0 out of 5.0

Chromata Santorini in Imerovigli was a fantastic experience for my wife and I. It is a boutique hotel with classic cave style accommodations and breathtaking views. Many properties in Santorini can boast the same but I believe it is the people that set Chromata apart. From the moment we walked on property we were treated like dear friends and every need was met with a smile. Evaggelos and his team were not only responsive but proactively helpful by providing suggestions based on the need. Whether it was a sunset cruise or spa reservations we were never disappointed with the result. As other reviewers said the pool area is small but we never had a problem getting a lounger as others did. We were off exploring quite a bit of the time but there always seemed to be one or two loungers available in the main area. Staying at Chromata also provides access to their sister properties Kirini (Spa and great pool), Katikis (multiple pools) both in Oia which was a great bonus. Many, if not all, hotels in Oia are guest only access so this perk came in handy while in town for the day. Breakfast was fantastic and can be taken on your patio or in room as well. There is a great selection of prepared sides and you can pick from several great options off of the a la carte menu. Again, the service was top notch and the food delicious. In closing I would highly recommend Chromata if you want a boutique experience with world class service, stunning views and great accommodations.
We had our honeymoon in Chromata hotel, Santorini. What can I say? The view from the private terrace was breathtaking, the service of the hotel amazing, the in-room pool a dream! I would definitely recommend it for a romance trip!
I'd seen so many pictures of the hotel and the view really is spectacular. However the race to reserve sun loungers around the pool was frustrating. Great location out of the busy areas or fira and oia. Not quite 5* standard in terms of service
We stayed 5 lovely nights at chromata for our honeymoon. They gave us a complimentary upgrade from the junior to premium suite, Complete with separate bedroom/walk in closet/large bathroom with tub and shower and separate toilet, living room. Pros -the most lemonade upon arrival when we were parched and stressed! And white wine/fruits. -free valet of our car daily - complimentary upgrade -infinity pool -some of the best views on the entire island- spoiled! -room service/complimentary breakfast -sushi! -overall wonderful service from staff -superb location!!!!! Quiet and away from the main bustle but close to everything! Best to stay in the middle of the island -quick laundry turn around service- gave it to them in the afternoon and was folded/hung in room that evening. A few cons: -It's not correct on google maps- not entirely their fault- but a warning- took us extra time to get there and we got in a car accident when someone backed into us trying to find it! -one of the females at reception was not particularly warm or friendly which was an exception from mid the rest of the staff -would've been nice to have a jacuzzi in house - very pricey room service
Positives Amazing breakfast that can be had on your private balcony – highlight of our stay! Spectacular view – but so do most of the hotels in Imerovigli and Oia Infinity pool - see also negatives Classic cave style rooms with modern amenities Amazing welcome lemonade – very tasty and refreshing on arrival Free bottle of wine on arrival – nice touch. Negatives Pool is tiny and very few beds which are taken first thing, most people stay all day so if you’re not up early there is no chance of getting a lounge by the pool – this really affected our stay as it was the last leg on a world trip and we had planned to just relax by the pool for most of the trip and chose the hotel specifically for the infinity pools with the views - which were great if you get the chance to use. We were told by the manager on our guided arrival tour that they have a system in place where everyone gets a go. When we asked the pool staff and reception about this they told us no, this is not the case and they only will remove peoples belongings from the chairs if they are gone for more than 1 hour. The lead in rooms are TINY! Smaller than NYC rooms we stayed in which is definitely saying something, could barely walk around the bed – definitely recommend upgrading room type. Damp rooms and no ventilation in the bathrooms (this seemed to be quite common across Europe) No privacy on balcony’s – ours was adjoined with room behind us so if both rooms were sitting outside it felt like we were almost on same balcony. Room service food was lacking (besides breakfast). Ordered pork souvlaki and the pork was very dry and flavours were not very nice. Also ordered the pasta which was not very nice either. Service was lacking in some instances: We requested a pick up from the ferry prior to our arrival and were quoted 70 euros for a transfer or told there was a taxi rank at the port if we prefer. We opted for the taxi rank as thought this price was way too much. When we arrived there was not a taxi in sight. We called the taxi number at the rank and was told there are only very few taxis on the island ( I think it’s something like 30 on the whole island), something we feel should have been explained to us. We called the hotel and after about 1 hour of waiting on our own at the deserted port the hotel ended up sending a transfer which only cost 15 euros so not sure why they did not offer this to us in the first place. One of the porters was extremely grumpy – not a nice welcoming. The others were all very nice though, not sure of his name just left a bad taste in our mouth even though we generously tipped him. We asked for prices to change our room as the rooms were so tiny and we wanted to get one with a private Jacuzzi or pool as missed out on accessing the pool for the first two days but we were told the rooms were full. We did find out later two other guests had been given free upgrades after we had asked and we were willing to pay for this. We asked the front desk for some directions and information on the island and the lady was not very forthcoming it was like pulling teeth, we were also never told about the bus that literally had a stop right outside the hotel. We only found this out from a fellow tourist on our last day and it was only a few euros and could take you straight in and out to Fira or Oia. We avoided going into Oia or Fira as the taxis are so scarce we got stuck there one night after dinner at the bottom of Amoudi bay. We took the bus to Fira on our last day and it was great. Wait staff at one of the restaurants was highly unprofessional inviting us out and making us feel very uncomfortable for the rest of our stay. We asked the concierge to book us two restaurants at her recommendation that would best see the sunset - one at Amoudi bay and one at The Athenian house. On both occasions we were given a room at the back of the restaurant in Amoudi bay and inside at Athenian house. When we asked if our hotel had requested sunset views we were told no. We were the only ones inside at Athenian house and nearly walked out until the restaurant kindly re-seated us. We could not believe after having the conversation about wanting great sunset views she did not even request a table with views, highly disappointing. The hotel is definitely not up to scratch with its partner hotels in Oia. As a travel agent I would probably not recommend this hotel to any of my clients looking for luxury as it really misses the mark on quite a few things. I must stress this is still is a nice hotel and our stay in Santorini was certainly not ruined by the negatives mentioned but as my heading says Chromata is good….just not 5 stars if this is what you are used to.
We were staying as a family of four and the St Nicolas Villa was available, so we decided to splurge and get the larger unit instead of getting two rooms. The villa is a 5 min walk from the main hotel but it is an incredibly luxurious and well appointed unit. Please take my word on this. It really feels like a 5 star house with its own pool and pool-size mega jacuzzi inside the master bathroom. It easily accommodates 5 as it has three bedrooms and bathrooms! The hotel / villa is in Imerovigli which is quieter (and in my opinion nicer) than the more hip/crowded Oia. The staff were extra helpful and both the manager (Evagellos) and concierge (Alessandra) were just outstanding. The night we arrived, the manager personally walked us to the restaurant where we had reservations! We had breakfast included in the rate and were spoiled to have it delivered punctually to the villa every morning. The quality of the food and the variety were superb. Santorini is known for its beautiful sunsets. The good news is that the most beautiful views of this are from the villa and the hotel so you don't need to go anywhere to catch the spectacular sunsets. If you are used to staying at topnotch places, this will still feel like a step up, especially if you stay at the villa-we were treated like royalty and felt like the expense was worth every penny. Most importantly, during our 6 day stay, we did not have a single unpleasant interaction with any of the many staff members. They were not only all professionals, but had a universally nice disposition. Our only minor complaint was that the music in the main hotel breakfast area was a bit too loud for the morning, but understand the rationale since this was also serving the poolside area. Overall, we ALL gave Chromata an A+. You will not be disappointed. Word of caution: a car is highly highly recommended so you can explore the other beautiful towns and areas in Santorini. Of the restaurants in Santorini, Metaxi mas, Melitini, and Atheneian were absolute standouts in their own different ways.
I highly recommend the Chromata. I visited with my sister and we had a great time. The concierge was super helpful before we even arrived: quick to respond to emails and helpful making advanced bookings. When we arrived, we were shown around the resort and taken to our room. We received a bottle of local white wine to welcome us which was a thoughtful gesture. Our room was very cool (all white and plush) and we had one of the most private balconies. We didn’t really spend much time in our room though. It was clean and cool but my only complaint is that the ventilation (understandably given the structure of the cave style building into the cliff) is really bad so when you shower (which is rather small for the size of the bathroom - some wasted space), the room gets super wet – water dripping down the walls. It makes it a bit hard to get ready in the bathroom as it gets muggy. Our sheets always felt a bit moist. But literally everything else was amazing. Breakfast was delicious. We had Mark as our server most of the time and he was great! We wish we’d had more days to spend at the pool. Both Stella and Mark were amazing servers, attentive and pleasant. Everyone was really lovely. Our drinks and water were always refilled without us asking. It was such an indulgent and relaxing experience. We also enjoyed drinks at the top bar overlooking the Caldera on the evenings after returning from our culinary exploits. Special shout out to Ody who was a fab bartender and really friendly. We booked a semi-private sailing day while there and we were really pleased with the company that Chromata arranged it with. Being equipped with a mobile to contact the hotel when we were offsite came in handy and we never had to wait long for a taxi. I often hear that Santorini is really touristy but we didn’t get that vibe while staying in Imerovigli. We really loved the Chromata – a pure luxury experience in a part of heaven. It set the bar for our stay in Greece.
We stayed here for a few days and we loved our time here. The food here is so good, the view is amazing and the staff are the best. The hotel is part of the chain which there are a few others in Santorini and you are welcome to use their facilities or services which is pretty cool.
Since all the reviews clamor for the stunning views and on point service, I wanted to let you know you'll also have the best lemonade of your life. We're still trying to make it! It's my obsession for the past month since we returned. From the moment we stepped foot out of the cab until we left for the harbor for Mykonos- we felt like we were in a dream. We are frequent world travelers and this tops our list of the best view in the world. You will feel your heart skip a beat when you get to the pool. We could barely leave our quarters - our large private patio begged us to sit there for hours. Well done, but that's what you get with a Leading Hotels of the World property.
Very nice, the room was big superb! The bathroom also! The hotel swimming pool is small but very nice. The breakfast/restaurant area was fantastic and the breakfast itself was very nice. The personnel very beautiful also. The hotel had Bvlgari toiletries such as shower gel and shampoo and body lotion in the room! Amazing! It also had a sound system where you can plug-in your iphone and listen to your preferred music loud. We had a room with our own terrace and sunbeds. The only bad thing at such a luxury hotel is that they charged us the coffee capsules that we used in the room. We expected that when you pay that amount of money for a room, this should have been complimentary. It is walking distance to Fyra. I would definitely go back again.
