A less than 10 minute walk from the train station and there you are. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Probably could do with a coat of paint, but we weren't in the room long enough to be critical. Handy to beach. A nice walk to the old quarter. Great bars and fooderies nearby. Thoroughly enjoyed San Sebastian and the Europa was part of it all.
Extremely friendly staff. Clean room, easy to walk everywhere we wanted to go. English speaking and helpful front desk. I would stay here again for sure! We walked to coffee rather than try the breakfast in house but it looked great!
You get what you pay for; this is budget hotel with dubious qualities. Yes, it was clean and little else attractive. The air conditioning was nonfunctional... The highly polished tile floor in the bathroom was potentially a hip fracture nightmare. Be ware when stepping out of tub/shower.
This hotel hasn’t been refreshed in a long time and it really needs it. The decor and furnishings are dated and in need of TLC. In room 519 the air conditioner rattled so loudly we had to turn it off in order to sleep. Inexplicably the floors in the bedroom and bathroom are really slippery. Like many hotels these days no one offers to help with bags and apparently no one checks the AC or shower function before guests check in. A really great central location but my recommendation is that you find another place
This was a very old hotel based ten minutes walk from old quarter. The location was excellent as looking at old quarter seemed very busy in that part. We had a room just opposite lift on fourth floor so would definitely ask for a room a bit further away. The pillows were very strange! well it was just one long pillow to share between two. The bedside lighting was very poor. And chair by window was extremely uncomfortable.. probably needs replacing. The bathroom was very large .. plenty of room to put your toiletries. Breakfast was excellent. Reception staff also very friendly and helpful. Loved San Sebastian and walking round old quarter. So many bars and restaurants. Tapas served every night most bars and wine very good and cheap.
I wish we would have spent a little more and stayed elsewhere. This hotel is in a great location but that's the only positive thing I can say. The mattress was completely worn out so that I had to put extra blankets and spreads on top just to deal with the feeling of springs on my back. When I asked for help at the front desk, nothing was done. The hair dryer looked like a relic from the 80's, maybe even a collectors item. I had to go out and buy my own. The noise level is, as others noted, terrible. I was awakened repeatedly by guests in the room above ours. Staff is what I would call fake friendly, although they do speak English. An example of their work ethic: the door handle on the entrance to the hotel was falling off and no one cared for the duration of our stay-- 5 days. Breakfast was overpriced.
Received a nice warm welcome and soon checked once resolved a little confusion over the booking name. The room was small with barely room to walk around the bed but not a huge problem as we didn't spend a lot of time in the room. We had a room on the front of the hotel and adjacent to the lift but fears over noise were groundless. Clean, friendly staff and convenient for the Old Town and beach.
Okay, so the size of the room was small, but very clean and we had glimpses of the sea. The bathroom size was good however. Best selling point would be the location, less than 1 minute walk to the middle of the beach, offering great swimming and a strip of bars and cafes. It was on the pricey side for the size, but being high season it is what you would expect.
During a 5 week tour of Europe we had only one "dud" Hotel and this was the one. Fortunately we were only staying one night before meeting up with our Basque family. If my friend did not speak both Basque and Castilian we would have had a language barrier at Reception. The room was so small we had difficulty getting our luggage past the two small single beds which were so small that my feet hung over the edge. The air conditioning was not working in the entire Hotel so the Windows had to be left open for fear of suffocation overnight. This Hotel's tariff was more expensive than any other Hotel we stayed at (Barcelona, London, Paris, Florence, Venice, Singapore) and had no breakfast included unlike all our other accommodation. Had it not been for my amazing warm Basque family and connections I would not consider returning to Donostia San Sebastián. Fortunately we were met the following day and had an amazing time travelling the Basque Country, staying with family, and I had the bonus of competing in the 3km Open Water Swim around Santa Clara Island off La Concha Beach. I love the Basque Country, the Basque People, the Basque Culture but would not recommend the Hotel Europa.
Nice location. Rooms can be noisy. Good access to beach and old town. Small bed in our room, but nice tub. No coffee maker. You get the safe key from the desk. No complaints. Nice staff. Not luxurious but fine for a visit.
