We were in SM for a wedding and chose the Matilda based on friends recommendations. It did not disappoint! The location is excellent and the staff were so friendly and helpful. The food at the restaurant was excellent as well. We upgraded to a suite and were not disappointed with the accommodations. We would definitely recommend and stay here again
had a room next to the pool, I so loved the shower. The restaurant is well managed, has a separate bar, very limited space at a rather small pool. Altogether a very good experience.Modern with artistic notes
We went to spend a nice weekend at San Miguel and stayed here. It is a modern little hotel in a magical town. The location is absolutely amazing, you can walk to all the major landmarks in San Miguel. The style is modern inside the hotel, not at all like San Miguel but it is nice to come inside the hotel and find all the amenities of a modern place. The rooms are very good and comfortable, the bathroom is modern and cool. The service was excellent. They have one of the best restaurants in San Miguel, The Moxi, which was delicious. The only thing that I didn't like, was that the rooms are noisy since they almost all are around the swimming pool and restaurant area but once you turn on the AC, the noice cancels but you DO HAVE to turn it on otherwise the noise is not good. I would definitely return. We enjoyed our weekend escape.
Hotel Matilda has beautiful facilities and the Spa has top equipment. Unfortunately, what could have been an extraordinary experience became a bittersweet moment. We booked in the spa for 9am so we arrived at 8:25 to the restaurant of the hotel, they took around 20 min to bring us a coffe and a juice, food ofc was out at 9:00am COLD! The restaurant had only one table and us but they were assembling the breakfast bar (why do they even open if they are not ready?) after we asked for the check they told us they were only taking american express cards. So we ate in 6 minutes and we reached the spa exctly at 9:07am ... we were guided to our cabins and the host told us in a scolding way we would have our massage done in the minutes we had left because we were late. We said it was ok but also explained we had that situtation at the restaurant and anyway she was like: ok but we have other appoinments. Of course we understand we were late, but a place that is “supposed” to provide an excellent service, can’t ask the client for a formality they lack themselves. As an hotelier myself I feel sad of these kind of experiences. Luckily for us, the host of the spa in the afternoon (his name is Daniel I believe) and our masseuses rescued what was left!
My husband and I are staying in Hotel Matilda this week. We are tired and would like to chill at the pool. There are six (yes 6!) available chaise lounges. They have been occupied all day. My husband asked the general manager at the front desk when there might be availability, and he was told tickets were sold to non-hotel guests to use the pool. So not today. We are steaming, and holed up in our room reading. Not a great first day.
I really liked staying at Hotel Matilda. The room was simple but nice and classily decorated. I thought the location was very good. The breakfast that is included is simple but really delicious. We flew in on Christmas Day and the hotel had a car waiting for us as promised at our request, which was great after a long day of travel. The only downfall was the staff at times. The service at the restaurant was a little slow and the front desk reception seemed a little clueless about simple questions at times. Make sure you take a right out of the hotel and visit the park down the street. Most of the activity is going towards the center in the other direction, but we took an early morning walk around the park and its really peaceful and beautiful. Also I would suggest visiting the bar upstairs. It was never crowded and we loved the bartender (remembered our drinks of choice every evening at nightcap ;) A really nice vibe. Overall I highly recommend!
Thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance of this very well located spectacular 32 room boutique hotel. Rooms are large and comfortable.The head concierge, Gustavo, went above and beyond to assure all our needs were met. Be sure to ask Gustavo to give you a tour of the fascinating contemporary art collection.
The hotel is clean, new, nice, excellent location and has a friendly staff. It has all the elements to get a 5 rating but the quality of the food at breakfast, the service during breakfast and the fact that you only get a basic continental service when paying >USD500 for a room and they want to charge you (and actually do charge you for the extra eggs or bread or cheese) is ridiculous. We were not disappointed at the room or the staff of the location, al of it is excellent, but this is not what you expect when you stay at a USD500 x night hotel. To the mgmt and owners I would encourage them to get their act together and make the small but noticeable updates to their policy in order to improve the overall experience
We stayed for 2 nights. We had noise issues at another hotel and decided to switch to Hotel Matilda because of its high ratings and we passed by and it looked absolutely beautiful. We were quoted a rate of 267 US dollars per night which was acceptable. We then moved from the other hotel and upon showing back up to Matilda the price was adjusted to $367 and they were non negotiable. For a 5 star property we accepted the higher rate as it was nicer than previous hotel. The room was very beautifully appointed, no complaints there! Electronic lighting controls and remote control for air conditioning. But there was no drinkable water other than pricey high end bottled water. A 5 star property should provide guests free drinkable water and if they choose offer a higher end water. Additionally no coffee maker and to get coffee to your room they charge. It makes you feel like they are ripping you off even after you are paying a premium to stay there. The room at first was very quiet. However several times during the night we experienced sudden loud noise coming from the exterior doors which woke my wife and I up suddenly and actually was frightening. I complained about this in the morning and they said they would look into it. I’m not sure if it was wind or bird strike on the window or another cause but it interrupted sleep several times this was room C4. The service is decent but no where near a st Regis or similar hotel where they make you feel truly special. I would give the property outstanding remarks on design and feel but lower marks on overall experience.
Stayed here in August 2018 as we were in town for a few days and were very happy with our choice. The hotel has a great location as you can explore the lovely town its attractions and tons of great restaurants all by foot. The room we stayed in was lovely, quiet and even had a small terrace with a nice view of the surroundings. We really liked the overall design of the hotel and room. Only thing we didn‘t like was that the included breakfast was slmewhat disappointing as it was quite sparse and somewhat lacking in choice.
