This is their business model so it shouldn't come as a surprise, but for those not familiar with this chain it helps to know what to expect. The hotel is clean and functional, but the rooms are like student dorms with basic ikea furniture, a miniature bathroom and a cheap mattress. Towels look like they have been used a million times. The walls had skid marks. Breakfast is free but very limited and served in disposable dishware. On the positive side, the hotel has a strong environmental policy. Wifi service is good, and front desk staff is helpful. Being in the university area, there are plenty of options within walking distance, such as restaurants, bars and cafes. The city center is about 15 minutes by taxi and worth a quick visit.
City Express San Luis Potosi Zona Universitaria is a small hotel that provides quite simple accommodation in a quiet and safe area of the city that is about 20 min away from the historic downtown area. It is conveniently located within easy walking distance to a supermarket, a beautiful park, a bank, a small coffee shop with snacks and public transportation. The rooms are not big, but mine was clean, and everything worked. I had a room on the 4th floor, which was quiet although the hotel was fully booked. My friend, however, got a room on the 1st floor next to the housekeeping staff, and that room was quite noisy. We stayed in the hotel for three nights, and every morning she was woken up around 5 – 6 a.m. by the housekeepers, who just got to work and were quite noisy getting ready for their shift. Although everything was very functional, there were a few things that were not available in the rooms, and that made the stay a bit uncomfortable: it would be nice to have a coffee maker in the room as it seems the hotel does not provide any; also, it would be convenient to have some face cloths in addition to the standard set of towels. All those were just minor inconveniences that could be seen as some areas for improvement by the management. The major things that you should be aware of if you considering this hotel are the following two: there was no safe in the room to store passports, credit cards, money and other valuables; and the sink tap in the bathroom was practically a sprinkler. There was no way to use the sink without being wet all over because the water from the tap would come out splashing around, leaving everything wet and covered in tiny drops. Breakfasts in the lobby were quite good and quite standard. I am not a picky eater, so they worked for me. The hotel does have a gym, but it is very small and only has three machines. As I said, it was an OK but very simple stay. If I come to SLP again, I will most likely stay elsewhere unless they fix the taps and put safes in the rooms.
The staff is very nice and quite helpful. The rooms are clean, comfortable and private; although we could hear the TV on the room next door. The relationship between price and quality it's very good; it's a reasonably priced option with very good and comfortable rooms. I It also offers complimentary breakfast.
This was my first business trip to San Luis Potosi. I didn't even know the name of this city. Location is good. I felt very safe even at 10:00pm. Convenience store is very close and many coffee shops are open. Room was large and comfortable, staff members were very friendly. I cannot have any complaints with this fee.
Don't expect a lot. They assigned me a dirty room. After they switch rooms, the new one had blood-stained sheets. Air conditioner didn't work. The staff lacks training. The "gym" is a joke. Good location, though.
Really basic room. There were missing fundamental stuff, specially if you are traveling with your girlfriend (such as hairdryer). Noisy floors, you get the feeling that you can hear everything happening around your room. Scratchy sheets and towels, not sure how they wash them because was not comfortable.
Friendly staff, easy check in/out, decent breakfast selection. Rooms were clean and decent space for what I expected. In good location of town and have security gate to get in/out. Connected to other buildings with stores/restaurants.
Can't go wrong with the City Express. We stayed here in August in order to register my son in the University. The rooms are very basic but clean and comfortable. AC is new and works very good to cool the room down. Beds were comfortable enough for a good nights sleep. Free breakfast was nice, basic cereals, pastries, juices, coffee etc but anything free like that is just a bonus. The gym is also basic, with an elliptical and treadmill, but functional. You can always stroll down the street to the park and enjoy running there. I would say the hotel is slightly overpriced compared to other SLP hotels considering the spartan nature of the hotel. (lack of pool, green areas, and other amenities). If staying in the city longer I would look at some hotels near the bus station/industrial zone and just take a cab in to see the city center (see my other reviews). The City Express is also too far to walk to the historical center so if you are touring the city it probably would be better to find something closer such as the Hotel Panorama. It is in that respect that I say the City Express is overpriced since being out of the city center naturally it should be cheaper, except that it is sitting in prime real estate in front of the university so it is not cheap at all. There is really nothing of interest in the area for tourists. Just the University, the Hospital, and the park. There is a mall about a mile away and the hotel is close to the Lomas area of the city. There is a Subway and Starbucks, right outside the door to the hotel and Carls Jr and Little Caesars are just a block away along with THE best supermarket in all of SLP ( HEB the American Chain). All in all I might stay here again if I had business in the area.
I stayed in this hotel for a week. Room was clean. There was a cofee maker in the room but no cofee, i wonder what was the point of cofee maker. There was no safe in the room and you have to leave all your valuable belongings in you luggage, or carry with you which is probably not safer. Staff were nice but hardly spoke any english. There is no resturant in the hotel, there is a subway close by, but that is pretty much it. Break fast is very basic, and they have posted signes that you are not allowed to take food in your room. I have seen such signes in college residence, but never in a hotel. I didn't like the sign althogh i wouldn't take food in my pocket anyways. I can't say i enjoyed staying in this hotel, but i did not suffer either. It is in front of university of san luis potosi, so if you have business in university, this hotel is probably the closest. Otherwise i do not see any other point for staying in this hotel. If you are looking just for a bed close to university, this will do it.
Just spent one night, the hotel is just about ok, the rooms are small, the breakfast very, very poor. The service was average (for some reason the hotel was unable to provide invoices after check-out unless you had a mexican nationality) Tip for runners: The gym is small but has a decent treadmill. Though it may look "broken" it's not, the "key" to activate it is . at the reception
