Many visitors fly to San Luis to see the nearby Sierras Grandes mountains. The area is attractive for hikers and fishing enthusiasts as well as those who enjoy visiting historical sites associated with the Argentinian Revolution.
With its imposing red sandstone formations, canyons and dry lakebeds, The Sierra de las Quijadas National Park is one of the main draws to the area. The park features rugged terrain but experienced local guides are available for hire to guide you. To get a feel for how life in the early 1800s was lived in this region, visit El Cabildo in La Punta. The building is a replica of a former municipal building built in commemoration of the May Revolution of 1810. Nearby Salto de la Moneda waterfall is a great place to cool down after a hot day s exploring.
The Brigadier Mayor Cesar Raul Ojeda Airport (LUQ) serves San Luis and connects the area with Buenos Aires, which is almost 500 miles to the east. You can drive around the area via National Route 7. Cycling fans flood the city during the Tour de San Luis, a multi-stage race that attracts endurance athletes from all over the world each January. During this time of year, highs are in the 80s, and lows are in the 60s. In the winter, highs drop to the 60s, and lows fall to the 30s.
