You only arrive there by boat so make sure you contact hotel ahead of time. We did and they were very helpful with the arrangements even though we arrived after regular hours. We can't say enough of our stay at Kaalpul, very peaceful and isolated while still easily connected to the little towns around the lake. Food and attention was amazing as well as the friendliness of the staff, kitchen and bar. We look forward to staying there again, with our family next time.

Kaalpul lived up to the hype of the photos! Staff were extremely attentive and warm. Only thing to keep in mind is that you will need a boat to get everywhere, but part of the charm.

staff was amazing, water heater didn't work properly, either way too hot or too cold. we were the only guest at the hotel for a couple of days and even that the breakfast was included , they couldn't bend the rules to let us eat before they started serving breakfast... you can only access the hotel by boat, and it is in the less populated area of the lake, making it harder to move around...

I had an absolutely spectacular stay at Atitlán Oasis Eco Hotel and Spa Kaalpul in San Antonio Palopó, Sololá, Guatemala. From the moment we arrived, the place felt like a sanctuary. The facilities are beautiful and thoughtfully designed, perfectly blending comfort with the natural beauty of Lake Atitlán. There is a deep sense of peace throughout the property—it’s the kind of place where you truly disconnect from the world and reconnect with what matters. What made our experience truly unforgettable, however, was the incredible staff, led by Alexis, who is without a doubt one of the best hosts I have ever met. She went above and beyond to help create a very special atmosphere and decoration for my girlfriend and me, as we came to spend a few days resting and reconnecting. Her warmth, attention to detail, and genuine care made the experience deeply personal and memorable. The food was spectacular, the rooms are beautiful and comfortable, and the terrace is simply magical—whether you're enjoying a cocktail at sunset or having breakfast with an incredible view of the lake. Travel to this location was extremely difficult since the host books through Expedia and claims my email was not shared for directions. Additionally, be prepared to remain at the hotel unless you hire a private boat outside of the hours of the public transit boat. The public transit boats will only depart twice in the morning and return twice at night. As for the property itself, while the room had a spectacular view, we were unable to access Wi-Fi or a temperature safe shower in our room. Lastly, there were only three food options available and we failed to bring our own food thinking there was a full restaurant on the premises. We ultimately chose to leave the property since it was not conducive for our needs. Although we did not stay a single night, I was not refunded for any portion of our stay.

Hotel is a unique experience but only if you’re looking for something very remote and quiet. They seem to intentionally not advertise the fact that the hotel is only accessible by boat, has no wifi, and costs a lot of money to take the boat to get anywhere else. If they properly advertise these things, then they will get the right audience. Instead most guests seemed upset by this. Onsite breakfast is local and decent, but the rest of the food options are not good.

Quaint, quiet, comfortable stay

José and Alexis’ service was impeccable from the start to the finish of my stay. All of the comforts you could ask for at an eco-conscious establishment are here- you’re asked to get in touch with, and respect, nature. Two wonderful pups, Gina and Gucci, roam the property but can be contained if you’re not a cute pup person (but who isn’t?) Obviously, this hotel is pet friendly. Only accessible by a lancha (boat), you’ll achieve the peace and quiet you’ve been craving, and wake up/fall asleep to the sounds of Lago Atitlán. Private swimming area, nice bar/restaurant area with gorgeous views. The most important thing about this hotel is that it’s blessed by the Maya of the region, maintaining the sacred nature of the lake and respecting its natives. I was honored to be shown, by José, the Mayan altar that sits at the top of the hotel.
