inexpensive hotel near university. Rooms clean. Walls and doors very thin - heard people talking loudly and dog barking late at night. Could not change the volume on the TV without getting up. Stored luggage in waiting area - not secure.
We stayed here on March 16 and found the property to be unique and very adequate. Rooms were clean and the staff was super helpful. The area has small bars and restaurants and an excellent coffee shop. We were going on a cruise so this was a economical place to stay while visiting San Juan.
My first time in Puerto Rico, we flew in San Juan late evening. Rental car to the hotel ( across the causeway-$4 toll) 10-15 minutes to the hotel. You have to park across the street (one way street) in the church parking lot. The gal who checked us in was really helpful with the parking. Get a Quiet room in the back Side off the street. Only cold water ( you would pay double for an upscale hotel- so if a hot shower is a must this is not for you) If you want night life just walk out and turn left several bars/ disco 1/2 block away We had a snack at the open air bar/ street vendor $3/ea. try the chicken kabobs - did not try the empanadas, really good green hot sauce.
The hotel is near the university and on a street lined with bars and eating establishments. We stayed on a Sunday night so.it was very quiet. The hotel staff were super friendly and arranged uber service to get us places with a great friendly and reliable driver. Room was spacious and clean with a small fridge and a microwave, good TV selection. The downside.....there was no hot water and the free WIFI did not reach our room. Could not connect at all. We just spent one night and for the price when compared to other San Juan accommodations was entirely reasonable.
We decided to take a 7 day Caribbean cruise out of Puerto Rico so we could see San Juan as well as the various islands. So we booked a stay at the Dreams Hotel for 2 days before our cruise and a day after our cruise. We ended up arriving to the Dreams at 5am instead of 2am because of some major delays. Exhausted and tired we arrived to the Dreams and they made every attempt to accomodate our needs and makes us feel at home. The room was very clean and the customer service was the best. We saw Old San Juan and then went on our cruise. Seven days later we left the cruise and headed to the Dreams. We got there around 10:30am happy but tired from the cruise. Our room was not going to be ready until the normal check in time of 3pm. They let us relax in a commons type room. There were comfortable couches to lay on and tables to sit in as well as clean restrooms and a courtesy bar of coffee and tea. As we relaxed we were given free televison and WiFi which was a hit with my family as we were able to start uploading photos of our trip. The lady at the front desk attended to our every need. Seeing that we were in need of rest, she somehow got us into a room by 12:00 noon and it was upgraded! If you are a family on a budget like most of us, the Dreams Hotel is a great deal. Being close to the university, there are plenty of places to eat and a Walgreens nearby. We even ate at Hipopotamo, an established Puerto Rican restaurant that was absolutely fabulous and only a 2 minute walk from the Dreams. We plan to return to PR again and we most definitely will stay at the Dreams.
Stayed for two days, with my son, while visiting family in Puerto Rico. My summary of pros and cons. Pros: - Relatively speaking, a good price - Clean, spacious rooms, with some reno work on bathroom. (They were renovating some rooms). - Safe location - Friendly staff Cons: - Far from main attractions. It's close to UPRP and close to Tren Urbano; but it takes more than 1.2 hrs to get to Old San Juan, using public transportation. Uber to Viejo San Juan, depending on the time of the day, will cost $9-$1; though coming back is more expensive, $17-$20. - No hot water (for two days, told management about problem at the end of first day: "Thanks for letting us know." Not fixed. We took cold showers.) - Below average breakfast: White toasts with jams (in ketchups style dispensers), apples, cereal (fruit loops and froasted flakes) with milk, coffee was on a thermos and warm (likely prepared at 7 AM, warm by 8:30 AM) and some pastries. (See picture attached) - The room needs some renovation, specially the furniture and bed. - Toiletries in wall dispensers.
I stayed here due to the budget consideration and returned because of the friendliness of the staff. Special mention needs to be made of Rosa Torres. She works mornings at the front desk. She is very friendly, bilingual, and knowledgeable. But her best attribute is that she cares. I had a problem with my airline check in and she went above and beyond to help me. I was so happy! You don’t get that level of service and helpfulness from bigger hotels.
Elena is simply an awesome lady who knows her business. Simple, clean, every room is intended for a unique type of customer or group. Clean, customer service oriented 300%, always do their best to acomodate each customer. Simple Continental Breakfast. Clean, Secure, go out of their to find a solution for each customer.
Near everything, Coliseo PR, Plaza las Americas Mall, Old San Juan Hotel clean, staff cordially, Continental breakfast. Parking. Near foods restaurant. I recommended for friends, family. It's very good hotel
I stayed at Dream Hotel early this July. I found this hotel charismatic and cozy. My room was very clean and staff members quite accommodating as they tried to please me in avery way. Can't beat the price.
