Hotel Mango Valley couldn't have been more perfect for us. It gave us a quiet home-base during our extraordinary holiday, where we fell asleep and woke up to the sound of exotic birds. The location was just gorgeous, and host Javier was extremely helpful each and every day, from doling out tips on things to do, to making sure we had everything we needed for our adventures. Because there are only 7 cabins, there's always just the right amount of people there, and it provides an intimate setting to meet and chat with fellow travellers. This is an ideal hotel for those who plan to rent a car and explore Costa Rica. You're never too far from some important sites (Poas, La Paz, San José, Jaco, etc.), and if your adventure ends early that day, you can have a quick dip in the pool that overlooks the valley. The rooms are comfortable, and the kitchen allowed us to make our own meals when we wanted to. There are also several restaurants that will deliver to the hotel, and Javier is happy to help with that. We couldn't have been happier with this place, and we strongly recommend it to travellers who rented a car and plan to be mobile during their trip.
If you have a stomach for rough driving, you will be rewarded by these vistas in the picsafter an ascent along treacherously narrow, uncomfortably uneven, and sharply meandering roads. The familiar primarily coffee and also sugar cane cash crop farming along this part of the Central Valley remains, but the increasing number of tourist and expat condominiums and converted country mansions speak to growing tourism which has now surpassed Costa Rica's agricultural exports. The hotel is a notch above no frills, with a pool, and comfortable and clean cabana style rooms (see pics) which are serviced daily. The breakfast is basic but good. The place is quiet at night and a great spot in you wish to enjoy watching sunsets over the valley and want a peaceful night free of bustling noise. But it may be too isolated if you do not have a car. Otherwise, it is a great place to explore towns like Grecia, Zarcero, Heredia, Sarchi, before you head off to the beaches to the west or to the cloud forest further north.
Average to nice hotel. I wouldn't come here to just "get away" but if you're going to be in this area anyways, I'd recommend it. If you're looking for property in the area then I'd say stay here for sure as they have a few cooking things, cups etc in rooms. Room was super clean. Had no hot water (that shower was cold!) but once I told staff they immediately changed out the propane tank behind the room that apparently was out. Directions on how to get into town weren't really helpful or accurate. Bungalows close together, could hear normal level conversation next bungalow over. One real concern of mine was that the door lock is a keyed lock on inside and out (no knob to turn on inside). I walk early in the morning while my girlfriend sleeps, and had to choose, do I take the one key we were given and lock the door on my way out or leave door unlocked. If I locked door on my way out, there would be no way for her to escape in case of fire...she would need a key to unlock it from inside. If I didn't lock door, there's a young lady sleeping in a unlocked room... a bit unsettling, didn't have doors like this any where else we stayed in Costa Rica. Nice pool though and nice views. Good breakfast. Overall, if you're coming to this area and need to stay, would recommend but wouldn't come here just to stay at this place.
The location is absolutely stunning! We got a cabin with a private terrace which is definitely worth the extra money - the view of the Poas Volcano and the mountains is just gorgeous. The little cabin has all you need, very cosy and it was spotlessly clean and in a very good shape. The grounds are immaculate and very well taken care of, the view from the pool is just amazing. The management was really nice and helpful. We thought it would be just a nice and convenient stay close to the airport before we'll leave but it turned out that is was an very interesting area with lots to do and it didn't feel touristy at all. The hotel is the best place to end our start your vacation - not just for one night!
This was the best place to spend our last 2 days in Costa Rica. The cottages were super clean and updated. Hot water a plus and the best complimentary breakfast served outside over looking the mountains. If I needed a honeymoon destination this would be it! Cant say enough about how nice it was. Next time staying there longer! Also 45 minutes from airport and a 15 min bus ride from the quaint town of Gracia. Do not take a cab to airport. Ubers run in Costa Rica and half the cost!
Each guest has their own cottage and will feel right at home at this family-run property. The views are spectacular and it is a very peaceful and quiet atmosphere. I loved relaxing by the pool! You will sleep very well and wake up to a delicious and nourishing breakfast! Javier goes above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. There is no restaurant onsite but each cottage has a list of restaurants that will deliver right to your door! It may be easier to get around with a rental car. If that's not an option, then Javier helps to arrange taxi rides.
The cottages were clean and the property was beautiful. We especially enjoyed the incredible variety of birds that visited the grounds - mot mots, manakins, hummers & more! Wish we'd had more time to stay and just watch the comings & goings of the wildlife! The hosts, Carmen & Javier, were welcoming and helpful - assisting us non-Spanish speakers to order delivery from a local restaurant and providing tableware so out party could dine together. Hope to stay again on a future visit!
We booked this as our first stop in Costa Rica, and it was a fantastic place to stay for 3 nights. We booked into one of the rooms with a balcony and it was worth every penny to wake up to that view! Our host was so friendly and helpful, he even asked our first night if we needed any dinner ordered and delivered! He was always there if we needed him. Amazing surroundings with the coffee plantations and beautiful birds. You do need a car though!
This place is amazing. The views, the infinity pool, it's remoteness - it's up a hill outside the main town and if you don't have a rental car you can take the bus - it's quite the experience. There is a restaurant within walking distance that is clearly authentic. The owner and innkeepers are so hospitable and friendly. Would stay here again absolutely!
This is a wonderful, magical place! Beautiful views of the valley, clean, well-equipped cabins, gorgeous pool and environs that you can walk through and enjoy. Very private and quiet. Javier, who manages the place, makes the place extra special with his warm and friendly touch. Great, home-made breakfast.
