I liked this hotel. The rooms are good and clean and the service is very good as well. The rooftop pool offers a tremendous sunset and the location of the hotel is very nice for those who dont want to live in downtown Salvador. However there are some considerations one should take into account before booking. Firstly the rooms with the best view also receive a lot of noise from the bars/restaurants on the square below. The bars/restaurants are a good and I can recommend a visit, but if you want a quite night sleep you should book rooms facing away from them. This is Brasil and the overall maintenance of the hotel has not been good. An elevator was not working, a room safe was missing, a shower curtain was missing and there were other minor maintenance tasks that should have been done. Nothing I couldn't live with. We stayed there as a family of 4 and had two adjoining rooms and we enjoyed our stay a lot. I will probably book the same hotel again.

The hotel was once incredible, but the impression is that it hasn't been renovated in ages. The building is very imponent and, seriously, by looking outside you would think its 5*. There's a sign informing renovation works in the lift (I really hope they improve), but we were given an old room, so that's the only one I can review. First the positives: The public space in the hotel has so much potential. It makes me sad for a place with this much potential to be left so abandoned. The lobby is really big with an amazing view. If you book a superior room or above you will be given a sea view, which is simply breathtaking. The staff is extremely helpful, attentive, and friendly. Everywhere! In the bar, reception, housekeeping. Everyone was really 5*. The hotel is located on top of a hill, at Rio Vermelho area. The neighbourhood is full of bars, restaurants and nightclubs, it's great to be around it at night. They offer free transfer down the hill and that's really great! You get best of both: the view and the quietness of the hill + the enjoyment of the nightlife. The bed was also very comfortable. Even though we were given 2 beds put together, it was done very nicely. Bed sheets are clean too. Breakfast is very enjoyable. Just go beforw 9am to be able to fully enjoy the omelette and tapioca station. After 9 the queue is long! Now, the negatives. 1) Floor: It NEEDS DESPERATELY to be renovated. Apart from the annoying grooves on the floor that makes noise whenever someone drags a suitcase in the corridor, they are so old that the grout turned black. (you look inside the wardrobes they are still whitish, original colour I presume). 2) regardless of old furniture,or major flooring charge, you can see they haven't even undergone minor updates. The space on the door where you hang the towels in the bathroom was black with mold, and the telephone in the room is from the 1990s. 3) People who are used to stay in 4* hotels will miss many of the amenities so common to them: no iron, no coffee maker, no kettle, cups, teabags, no bathrobes. 4) Another amenity you would miss is a blanket/duvet. None in the bed or in the wardrobe. Even though Salvador is a hot place, the AC is freezing. We kept ours at the highest temperature, but still freezing... 5) Water pressure in the toilet bowl. I hope they fix that in the renovation. It can take 3 flushes to send stuff away. 6) Curtains: they cover exactly the balcony door. Lots of light come in from the sides, if you want to sleep til late. 7) Pool area needs to seriously go under renovation too. Pool towels? And it needs earlier opening times too.

This hotel was a once grand place but has not been maintained as it should. The positives are that the views from the top of the hotel are absolutely spectacular. The complimentary breakfast was good and the room had exellent views of the ocean and cityscape. The negatives are that the hotel only has one iron and board for the entire hotel. The hotel has the most annoying grooves inbetween the tiles that suitcases or any bag with wheels will make a " tac tac tac" sounding throughout the entire corridor and the rooms I would imagine. The power outlets are only 220v and the front desk only had ZERO 220v to 110v adapters available. Mamagement needs to step in now and save this prime location NOW!

I booked this hotel on a buisness trip to Salvador. On the Internet I got the impression it had history and a brand that was reputable. On arrival the lobby was average looking but ok. The rooms were quite dated. I thought the furnishing were classic and of good quality but just need refurbishment. Nonetheless rhe bed was of excellent quality and I slept quite well. Being an older property the room was actually quite large even so I thought rhe TV was too far from the bed. The shower had drainage issues and the shower head was poor spray. Even with all that the service was good and became quite comfortable in the property. The breakfast buffet is quite good and adequate . I also ate lunch on the property which I would say was average especially compared to the offering services on the road.

Small damp quite smelly first room which was changed for one with no view. Very bland and mean looking tasteless breakfast. Terrible lunch, the meat could be used to make shoes. Not representative of goodish hotels in Brazil. Avoid.

Hotel is located at good place, you can get sea view from your room. Rooms are spacious but bit old styled. Room service is good as the lobby bar. Can get fresh egg preparations for breakfast. Pool is good and clean...Fitness center is there,but many equipments don't function properly. Over all good property for stay. Many local restaurants nearby for lunch & dinner.

We stayed as a family of 4 at the Golden Tulip in September 2016. The first stay was for 4 nights and the second stay was for 1 night only. The first stay we had a nice room, very spacious and the bathroom appeared to have been renovated. The breakfast had a nice variety of hot and cold items and we felt free to take what we wanted. One of the days, for reasons of which I am not sure, our room was not cleaned. It was not a huge issue, but we had run out of bathroom tissue and I went to the desk and requested more. I expected them to provide me a roll and I would return to the room. Instead they called housekeeping to bring me some and it took them almost an hour to do so. The pool was nice and clean and we used it quite a bit. The staff was very polite and professional and I was able to speak to them in English. I was disappointed at having to pay 20 reales a night for parking, as I believe it should be included for the price. The carpet in the hallways needs replacing. And for the second time we stayed we were assigned a room that had not had the bathroom renovated. There was a large amount of mold or mildew around the tub area that could have easily been cleaned with cleaner. But aside from these few minor problems we were quite comfortable at the Golden Tulip and would recommend it as being in a very accessible location and we enjoyed the view to the fullest.

This was our hotel for a recent cultural immersions mission trip. Our tour guide selected it for us. The hotel is located at the top of a steep hill and there is courtesy transport up and down provided by the hotel. The hotel has a restaurant that offers complimentary breakfast and limited lunch or light dinner fare. For more substantial fare, there are eateries close to the hotel. There is ongoing construction in the area at the time of this review. There are friendly English speaking staff at the desk. The rooms are adequate. There are no snack/soda machines/ no irons. There is a stocked refrigerator with items for purchase, but no microwaves. The laundry service was good and my clothes returned on time. Wifi is available, but occasionally spotty during peak use hours. Recommended.

This place is in major need of a facelift - it seems like it might be getting one. The carpets are old and dirty, the bathrooms are old and kind of dirty looking - the pool is pitiful - the bar at the pool is sad - the food is cold and disgusting - really not good. It's also at the top of the hill and it's kind of a pain to get down this hill - so if you need anything - aspirin, for example - it's an effort. Also - it's VERY loud in the middle of the night and while the front desk staff is apologetic - they are either unwilling or unable to do anything about it. Otherwise - it has a beautiful view of the city. The beds are comfortable, the water pressure good. A few things went missing from the room - they weren't able to do anything about that either. Happened after housekeeping came in.

Pool water was greenish/brown and SMELLY! Not suprisingly there was few people around!! Room are dated, bad renovation have been done. Good size of the room and great views on the higher floors, atleast if you are facing the ocean! Noisy familys with kids running around in the corridor in the evenings. Good breakfast.
