We stayed at the property as part of a Southwest Vacation package. The property is newer (or recently updated) and was in a very convenient and safe area. We were SO close to shopping and food... PLUS Solitude / Brighton were only 30 minutes from the front door! We took advantage of the free breakfast. It was pretty good, and I always love the cinnamon rolls at HIE. -- We were a big crew... Family of 5 - We were in one of the "suites" which for HIE is two double beds and a fold out sofa. For us, it was perfect. We used the in room fridge, and they provided some extra towels daily. We were out and about during the day and really viewed our hotel as a place to sleep and eat a early morning breakfast. -- Everything was solid and consistent with other HIE stays! I would most likely try to stay in the exact same place if I visit SLC again... So convenient, So safe, and No surprises. Well done.
Nice location close in between Salt Lake City and Provo not too far from the interstate. Adjacent to Golden Corral and Burger King and 5 mins from the nearest Walmart. Ample parking with open foyer and well laid out breakfast area. The breakfast is well-stocked, warm, with the best food attendant. Good quiet area and decent sized indoor pool. Beds and pillows aren't the most comfortable but do the trick. Enjoyed our stay and will likely be back.
We stayed here for 1 week during Christmas time. The staff was very friendly, helpful and always greeting us. Our room was super clean and quite. We stayed on the 3rd floor room 327. The bath room was always clean and plenty of amenties and towels. The heater worked very well. When it snowed the parking lot was kept plowed. Juie kept the breakfast area was well stocked. There was alway plenty of eggs, bacon, sausage, cinnomon buns and great gluten free Udi's blueberry muffins. The breakfast area was very clean. We have stayed here before and will stay in the future.
Stayed here a few times on business. Nice and clean. Breakfast has gotten better at HIX, more options. Convenient location to the freeway with easy access to all parts of the surrounding Salt Lake valley. Evening staff was good, overnight staff not as good. A little pricey for the location.
I am winding up a 9-day stay at this property, and based upon my lengthy stay, I give it a solid 4 stars. The building is quite new, about 6 years old. As would be expected with such a new building, both the exterior and the interior are in excellent shape. The interior of the building, including the lobby, the breakfast area of the lobby, the hallways, stairwells, elevator and the interiors of the rooms, are not only well-maintained, but are immaculately clean. Rooms are very quiet; it is very rare that you ever hear any sounds from nearby rooms or the hallway. The free WiFi service is excellent. The front desk staffers are very friendly and helpful. The housekeepers are very friendly and helpful, and the sole barrier that I hit at times was that none of them speak English well and thus communication with them can become hard work at times. The housekeeping manager, Lettie, can be reached by calling or visiting the front desk after 8:30 AM (she does not have a hotel phone extension, nor an email address on the hotel email system) and asking for her by name; she speaks perfect English, and is very helpful and friendly. If you have any complex requests for Housekeeping, it is best to approach Lettie and work through her. BTW, all of the rooms, and the entire building interior, are designated as non-smoking areas, and during my rather extensive stay here, I did not detect any whiffs of smoke from illegal/clandestine smokers, as is so commonplace in non-smoking hotels in many areas of the country, such as New Orleans, Vegas and NYC. I reserved a King Executive room; it came equipped with a spacious bathroom, wide foyer/entryway, a sizeable refrigerator, a microwave oven, and a small alcove sporting a sofa and a coffee table. There is a very large closet in the bedroom area. As is true of almost all HIX hotels in the US, this hotel offers complimentary breakfasts in the morning. And, as is true of the complimentary breakfasts at almost all HIX hotels, while there are a few choices of fresh fruits, cold cereals, breads/muffins, and some containers of yogurt (not all HIXs offer such a good selection of yogurt), as other reviewers have noted, the hot/cooked breakfast options are the HIX standard fare of highly-processed foods such as eggs (usually in the form of frozen portion-controlled omelets), sausage and bacon, along with warm biscuits and a chipped-beef-type gravy. Whenever I stay at HIX hotels, I usually tend to avoid the free breakfasts, but at this hotel, since the only nearby option available at 7AM for breakfast was a Burger King, where the breakfast offerings weren't much better, I chose to eat the complimentary breakfasts at the hotel. As some of the other reviewers have noted, the only plates available for the complimentary breakfast are styrofoam plates, and the only utensils available are plastic utensils. If you're at all MSG-sensitive, as I am, let me forewarn you that not only do the bacon and sausage patties seem to contain preservatives and MSG, as would be expected, but, somewhat unexpectedly, the chipped-beef gravy for the biscuits seems to be loaded with MSG. This caught me by surprise, and I spent much of my first four days at the hotel with a nasty headache from the MSG until I figured out the the gravy contained MSG, after which I studiously avoided the gravy. For meal options for lunch and dinner, there are a number of nearby restaurants located in the clean, well-landscaped suburban area surrounding the hotel, including a Golden Corral (not my kind of thing), an Indian restaurant, an MSG-free Chinese restaurant, a Burger King, a bakery/cafe, and sushi and Thai restaurants. For the past 3 years, when I've traveled (which is quite a bit, I am an IHG Club Spire Elite member), I've made the conscious decision to avoid using rental cars and to instead rely only upon taxis, Lyft and similar car services. Thus, I arrived at the hotel by taxi from the airport, and used Lyft and walking for local transportation. Across the first few days of my stay, I was fascinated to learn that I was not in a minority in this respect, and that a great number of the guests at the hotel also did not have cars, and rather, relied upon taxis and car services to get around, or upon the public transportation buses. Many skiers and snowboarders arrive without cars and simply walk the 70 yards to Fort Union Blvd. to catch the daily buses that run to and from the slopes in the nearby mountains. There are also several local bus routes along the same road. So, if you see reviewers scornfully state, as some have, that the hotel's parking lot was nearly empty at night, and that this must mean that the 66-room hotel had a low occupancy rate, bear in mind that this old style of logic does not work for this hotel, for a great many of the guests, including myself, have foregone bringing along a car, and instead rely upon public and private transportation alternatives. BTW, in closing I will note that the hotel does not have any meeting rooms, not even one simple small conference room, but between the front lobby and the nearby rear lobby space with tables and chairs that serves as the location for the morning complimentary breakfasts, there are several usable options if you need to meet for an hour or two with a client, customer or colleague.
I have stayed here for the fifth consecutive year and I must confess that this is still one of my favorite holiday inn express hotels. The staff is very friendly and helpful, there is a large breakfast area with a great choice of items (including pancakes and omelets, hmmm) and the room looks like a small suite. It has a safe and a large closet where you can place your luggage. I like the little red and green lights outside the room, which can indicate whether or not your room will be ready for housekeeping. And talking about housekeeping: they keep everything in this hotel very clean. I love it ! This hotel is not too far from the I-15 and I-225, and near a number of restaurants and shops. I certainly hope return next year.
Clean. Safe. Large rooms. Lots of outlets. Fast internet. Working thermostat/HVAC both winter and summer. Comfortable bed. Nice and helpful staff. Large refrigerator with freezer. Plenty of good restaurants in the area. It's not perfect, but nothing is. Convenience vs. luxury and an excellent value, and you could certainly do worse, but I am pretty sure that you cannot do better for the money in the Salt Lake City metro area...
Stayed 2 nights Newish, clean, bright. Friendly people. Better breakfast than many other HIE. Room was larger than all previous HIE and HI rooms on trip. We always appreciate microwaves and refrigerators, which they all furnish.
There were small things wrong with the room. I brought them up to the front desk clerk and he was very apologetic. Since we didn't book the room directly with the hotel he gave us enough points for a free night. The breakfast was good and there was a good variety of food. The lady in charge of the breakfast was very nice and offered my girls chocolate milk. She was very good at keeping the food stocked. I definitely recommend this hotel!!
We got into town a few minutes before check-in, so we hung out in the lobby until the room was ready - talked about our travels with the guys at the front desk. Once we got into the room, everything was great - huge room with separate sitting area and sleeping area. A safe (hooray!), fridge and microwave. Very clean and updated. Kids used the pool the first day (though they were delayed the second day from getting in because it was being cleaned around 3:30...) Great location, easy walking or driving to food and shopping. Lots of parking. Breakfast was one of the best we've had on the trip - pancakes, sausage, eggs, warm cinnamon rolls, yogurt, etc. All kept fresh as we were sitting there. Beds were very comfortable (I swear, one night I woke up thinking it was nice to be in my own bed!). On the pricier side, but worth it.
