VR Rotorua Lake Resort

We stayed for four nights. The property is in a beautiful location but be prepared to drive 15-20 minutes to get to any restaurants or stores. The "resort" is a bit old and dated and could benefit from a nice refresh. However, the bed was clean and comfortable. The front desk staff was adequate but not especially welcoming or friendly. Many times we would walk by the desk without as much as a hello. We did not try the restaurant located in the resort as there was never any other guests dining. Overall, I expected more but was generally satisfied with the accommodations.

We arrived late was greeted warmly. Helped carry luggage upstairs all amenities shown to us . Made to feel very welcomed. Room spotless linen changed daily everything we needed. We will be staying again .price perfect

Visited for a two-night mini break, knowing how wonderful it is to work literally a stone’s-throw from the shore of Lake Rotoiti and a 15-minute drive from downtown Rotorua. The cleaning staff especially are very friendly and helpful. Did not use the restaurant on this occasion. The buildings here are wonderful and every room is angled for a view of the lake, but it seems the owners are not spending as much on maintenance as in years past – a cracked handbasin, some poor painting and worst, mildew on the bedroom curtains. As much as the location is excellent, to be a “resort” the standards need to be kept up.

Old fashion decor but clean and comfy beds good lake view and lovely food at the restaurant, value for money does need some maintenance with little things such as light globes, shower leaks other than that would stay again

We bought a deal voucher on grabone with no prior knowledge of this hotel or the area. We were upgraded on arrival and shown to a lovely suite overlooking Lake Rotoiti. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were able to take our drinks from the bar down to the lakeside seating area to enjoy the view. We didn't use the restaurant but did have a platter delivered to our room which was really nice. If we'd stayed longer we would have used the hotels mountain bikes to explore more. Only 15 minutes drive out of town - well worth it for the nice location.

Super friendly and helpful staff made our (too) short of our 3 night stay here. The wait staff, front desk, and the housekeeping were so personable and we felt like we were returnees rather than first time guests!! The rooms were clean and fresh sheets and towels were changed daily. We had a wonderful dinner, drinks and our first taste of New Zealand wine was outstanding! Our waiter, Nelish, made us feel like we were the only ones in the house. Flat whites were given with smiles and were so yummy! The pool and hot tub were clean and warm! My grandson just wanted to stay and play chess on the lake view lawn! We will return soon--and that was a surprise from my Hawaiian husband who doesn't like to travel! Mahalo nui loa from Moku o Keawe! (Hawaii Island)

We enjoyed a lovely dinner here last night.. food was excellent.. service was good.. a lovely restaurant over looking the lake.. a really nice spot.. we will definitely be back for another meal sometime soon

We actually stayed in the timeshare part of the hotel which are two bedroom apartments so I cannot comment on the hotel accommodation. However we did use the hotel. The staff are very helpful and charming. There were a few queries we had. Firstly we wanted to get the hotel boat across to the hot springs but the boat was full. We were told we could get another at 4.30 but I had really wanted to go early. We got back from our day out about 2.45 and saw the boat departing, I rushed to the hotel and asked if they were doing other trips, but was told they had not been able to contact us about the earlier trip but not to worry.... the boat came back for us. The hotel put on a very reasonably priced three course dinner for timeshare guests and when chatting to the barman one day he asked if we were going. We said no because we preferred to dine with just our group - so that was arranged, no problem. Because it was so good we decided to dine there the next day as well, but the restaurant was going to be closed because of a large function the next day. No problem, they opened the restaurant just for us. Nothing was too much trouble. The staff were funny and amusing. Cleanliness was paramount and we had absolutely no complaints about our stay... except for one thing. What is a real shame is that there is a bird problem - Canada geese to be precise. They are very well behaved, do not attack but they poop all over the lawn and you really have to watch where you are walking. I am told if there is a wedding or big function on then they have a big clear up, so do not worry about that. If only they could "persuade" the geese to go elsewhere! With reference to the "location" question below, we love it because it is right on the lake, but it is remote and you would certainly need a car. There is a little shop across the road for emergencies like bread and milk.

Check in was quick and easy. There's plenty of parking, several pools and a spa. I liked that the wall could be opened so you can take a bath while watching TV. There's not a lot of channels on the TV, but in this area there's plenty else to do. The bed was comfortable and the AC was relatively easy to use.

Had trouble finding it, as our agent had only given us a basic address of Mourea, Rotorua. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived, great surrounds, lovely unit and more supplies than we had ever seen before at any other time share resorts we have been to. Second day, no hot water, so reported it to management, second morning no hot water, reported it again and this time a member of staff came over and found that "someone" (maybe cleaner or previous tennant) had turned the hot water power off. We had checked the fuse and was ok. So apart from this, this is a great place, have everything we need, great view of the lake and would be a lovely setting for a wedding.
