This place is very unusual and romantic. Completely open air with mosquito net, minimalistic, set in a natural area that is lovely. The room was high up and got a lovely breeze. Want to stay there again!

I stayed in Solaris 2. Beautiful room with a “wall” that lifts up like a garage door, to a private nature view. Made me feel like I was sleeping outside, but was completely covered even when raining. Wouldn’t recommend if you’re a light sleeper— but I loved the bird, frog, horse & rooster noises. I guess you could close the wall, but nature sounds don’t bother me so I can’t speak to the noise levels with everything shut. Loved the outdoor shower and how open everything was. It’s very easy to hear other noises in the hotel because of the materials and open layout. I was by myself, but would be worried if I was talking to a partner, or doing anything else, about others hearing me. I did yoga outside on my patio and was a little worried about bothering others, because I could hear other guests talking. The yoga classes are at 9:30 & 4:30 and you have to pay extra for them. The same sign up sheet from Friday was at the front desk when I checked out on Sunday. So, the classes are a nice bonus, but may not be available on the weekends. Just bring a back up and do yoga on your phone, on that beautiful patio! Also the pool was closed the day I checked in, because of algae growth (or something similar). So, if having a pool after sunset is super super important, this may not be the best place for you to stay. I get it though— it would be very hard to maintain a pristine pool in the middle of a forest. I’m not complaining at all, just mentioning things I wish I knew.

Unique and quality retreat

Beautiful spot, beautiful and unique accommodations. Friendly staff. Surprisingly good water pressure. It was a retreat from the daily travels around the island. The sounds of nature were delightful. The horses, as everywhere, were fun to have around, though the horse poop, as everywhere on the island, was ubiquitous on the property.

We loved Hix Island House!! It was quiet, except for nature sounds, and peaceful. Our unit had everything we needed and nothing we didn’t, a comfortable bed with mosquito netting, (I never saw a mosquito or a fly), fridge, 2 burner stove, basic kitchen supplies, plenty of thick towels, ceiling fan, (no air conditioning but it wasn’t needed) and an outside shower. The breakfast supplies were much appreciated and were restocked every other day. We enjoyed the refreshing swimming pool and the spacious grounds. We also appreciated the free use of beach towels, chairs, umbrella and a bag cooler. And we enjoyed learning the fascinating history of Hix. If we return to Vieques, we will stay there again.

What a spectacular place to stay in Vieques! It’s only a ten minute drive to Esperanza and not much longer to head back to the ferry on the other side of the island. The resort is a short drive to the best beaches and, when you just want to be mellow at home, you can go to a morning yoga class, swim in the pool or just hang out and read. The property is beautiful and the design of each building /room is truly unique (genius). We had an outdoor shower with a view and a terrace that we especially enjoyed in the late afternoon after we came back from the beach. We loved our view from Solaris 2. The open space (no glass in the windows) is an amazing concept - it was so lovely to enjoy the fresh air and trade winds in January. It’s also special to go to sleep to the sounds of the coqui (little tree frogs) and crickets. Even though it rained a little every night, the inside of the room never got wet. There’s a little mesh tent around the bed, but we never needed it because there weren’t mosquitos or other bugs. I think it helped that we didn’t leave lights on when we were out to dinner. We also loved that the room came with a fully stocked kitchen and dining table, so we could enjoy breakfast there every day. I also want to note how friendly and helpful everyone was at Hix Island House. I would highly recommend staying there and would gladly return.

It was a wonderful experience in a tranquil setting. The open plan brought nature into our living space. Up on the mountain top, the trade winds kept the room cool and comfortable. Yoga each morning was a delight. It was a short trip to any of the beaches and many restaurants. It was stocked with breakfast supplies and with a quick trip to the market, lunch was covered too. Don’t miss the bioluminescent bay tour or the black sand beach. We already want to go back next year.

Beautiful setting, serene location, quiet. The design is minimalist and the spaces are open to nature. Sleep with a view of the stars and the soothing sounds of wildlife all around. Wake up to the morning sunrise and view of green Vieques nature and ocean in the distance. Great place to unwind and relax!

My favorite place to stay in Vieques

I am a repeat visitor to Hix House and I will keep on going! Love the rooms - they are all wonderful! I’ve stayed at Redonda & Triangle in past. This visit we stayed in Solaris which came in handy since its solar powered & there was an island wide blackout. We were not affected.

Loved the grounds and the indoor/ outdoor affect. The crickets and birds were a wonderful calming noise to fall to sleep to. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the outdoor shower was excellent. I loved the design and the sleek clean kitchenette with seemingly brand new IKEA pots and pans. The service was not great. Our room was never cleaned which was fine except we had to go in search of toilet paper. . They never brought us the fresh bread On day 3 I had to go ask for it. Our room did not have the cotton nightgowns sun cover that are promised. So in general, no attention to detail by the staff which at 300 plus a night, I would think you would get. But also so peaceful, clean and beautiful. We spent one day reading by the pool. I will go back.

We loved our Solaris 5 suite's large spaces and open-air design, particularly the outside showers. Our beds were very comfortable and the bedside fans were thoughtful. The whole property is well kept and beautiful. We used the lovely pool several times. It was very helpful that our kitchen was stocked with breakfast and drinks and we cooked our dinner a couple of times, thanks to Hix stocking olive oil and S/P. We couldn't have had a better time at Hix!

The property and grounds are beautiful. We stayed in Solaris 6 which is a building with six units. Because of the concrete structure you could hear every door open and close through the building and throughout the night. Any movement on the concrete floors was heard throughout the building. The opening and closing of the window gates could be heard throughout the building. When there was absolutely no movement or doors opening and closing the property is amazing.
