Nice friendly place with a spa service located off the main hotel area. Breakfast is waiter service so none of those dreadful queues. The tablecloths are real linen giving a sense of times past. Plenty to choose for breakfast like poached eggs, kippers, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, porridge, cream and fab honey. Real tea with leaves is served in individual teapots! Dinner is good. It is traditional fare with pricing based on selecting a la carte courses. Roast lamb with gravy, salmon, turkey etc. The wine list is reasonably priced. The view from the traditional dining room located at the rear of the hotel is spectacular. The staff are exceptionally friendly and they engage with guests. Access to the beach is easy as the hotel is located right on the beach. There is a relief car park which is needed as the main hotel car park is small. The hotel does its best to ensure good access to Wifi however on this visit it was flaky. There are routers located in every corner to try to boost the signal. The bedroom overlooked the beach and the room itself was large. The lift provides access to three levels. Overall would recommend the Sandhouse for lots of beach walks and RandR.
The hotel Reception staff here are extremely unfriendly. I Have never been made feel so uncomfortable in a hotel. Absolutely disgusting and unprofessional. Certainly Would not recommend to come here for a stay.
This was such a great place we booked an extra night! Staff were friendly and helpful. Bedrooms were comfortable, clean and quite. But you can still hear the waves if you choose. Meals were nice too. The whole atmosphere here was relaxing and fun at the same time! No matter the weather.
We stayed 12-14 june 2017 after our wedding on the 10th. It was just what we need after a busy weekend. We checked in and were so surprised at our upgrade to a massive ocean view room with a four poster bed. We spent most of our time watching the waves, surfers and walkers on the beach. We ate in the restaurant on the first night the food was really lovely and service was great. We ordered breakfast to our room which was really quick and tasty. We explored some of the wild atlantic and Donegal town. For dinner we fancied pub grub so went on a hunt as it is out of season lots of places were closed. We finally found pizza in the next town. Ballyshannon about a ten minute drive away. We had a lovely relaxing stay. Staff were friendly and rooms were very comfortable.
Had Sunday lunch here twice or three times with family and i have to give it top marks. Service excellent, choice of dishes second to none and very reasonably priced. Staff attentive and friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant. Forgot to mention the breathtaking view of the Atlantic sea as you enjoy the food. Well worth a visit. I hope i will be back soon .
My sister and I stayed here for three nights. We had dinner on two nights, and the food was very excellent. Breakfast was also very good. Our room with the view of the beach was superb, and the shower in the bathroom was the best shower I have ever had, as the water pressure was terrific. I would highly recommend this hotel. It may not suit the younger person, but it a real gem waiting for you. I believe that it is also dog friendly which will appeal to a number of people. I hope I will have the opportunity to visit here again.
Stayed here in May 17, 2 adults and child of 6. This was our second visit to this beautiful hotel and won't be our last. From beginning to end, our two night stay was fabulous. The location for a start is outstanding but the overall ambience of the hotel is what pulls you in. Our dining experience was a treat, breakfast was exceptional, everything you could ask for and served to your table by helpful, happy staff. The evening menu was varied and beautifully cooked and presented. Lovely wine list too. My personal highlight of the weekend was a visit to the spa. Two luxurious hours were spent there, treatment was carried out by Bronagh who I couldn't rate highly enough. Thanks to Paul and all his staff for a really memorable stay.
This absolute gem of a place is right on the coast, you must get an ocean view, it's worth every penny, the Atlantic feels like it is coming into your room. Not in a scary way, in a spectacular way! Everything about the place is class, staff, restaurant, food, breakfast.....I could go on but suffice to say I cannot speak highly enough about this hotel.
We visited Donegal for 3 days and loved our trip. The highlight was visiting Rossnowlagh. The Sand House was superb. The staff, the location and atmosphere was great. Our sea view room capped it all off.
If you're looking for the last word in modern chic, this probably isn't for you. However, if you are looking for a friendly, relaxing, beautifully situated hotel, then The Sand House is a real gem! It has a very "olde worlde" feeling about the place, but from the friendly greeting of the ladies on reception, the wonderful bar staff and the lovely young ladies in the restaurant, you are made to feel very welcome. Add to this the fantastic views out over the Atlantic and you have a winning combination. The sea view room we had was very clean and spacious and I don't think I will ever tire of falling asleep to the sound of the waves breaking on the shore. The food in the restaurant was amazing, my particular favourite being the bacon and leek wrapped Hake, served with lovely fresh veg and a delicious sauce. Breakfast is plentiful with a great choice for everyone, whether its a full Irish cooked breakfast, Kippers, Smoked Salmon or something as simple as a bowl of porridge, its all beautifully served and tasty! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Sand House to anyone looking to completely chill out and leave feeling like a new person.
