preached right on the beach front off a beautiful stretch of golden sand the location of the hotel couldn't get any better this coupled with a room with a sea view near guarantees views of stunning sunsets each evening. At first we thought the sound of the ventilation system was going to be intrusive until we realised it was the sound of the wild Atlantic and not man made we could hear this is something to be aware of if requesting a seaview room and you are sensitive to noise at night. The food in the hotel was excellent on the one night we dined there the other nights we tried the close by restaurants which also served top quality fare. For those looking to explore the wild Atlantic way the Sandhouse would make an excellent base or just a stop over either way i think you would not be disappointed
returned to Sandhouse on Thurs 30th March, we have stayed several times over last few years but this time it was super good , the Hotel was immaculate ,we had a great time, we remembered the staff from the last time we stayed and they looked after us brilliantly.. Elizabeth, Caroline to name two, Everybody at the hotel should be very proud of themselves, one of the very best places to stay in Ireland, views and food unbeatable many thanks again..Room 327 the one to have
Stayed here on last Sunday night with my Mam for a Mothers Day treat , and what a treat it was! From the initial dealing with a very friendly receptionist when booking the room ,it was a pleasure.. On arrival, even though we were there before check in time we were able to take our room .. The receptionist personally accompanied us to our room, which was huge, and spotlessly clean , and the view from our room quite frankly took our breath away !! So the floors creak a little , it's called character in my book!! I'll take it any day over some of the "modern hotels" We had the Chowder and a sandwich for lunch both delicious.. We had a wonderful dinner , the food was really tasty and well presented.. When your this close to the sea you can only have fish !! It was perfect!! The weather was amazing, and gave us the most unimaginable sunset... It couldn't have been more perfect.. Breakfast next morning was also beautiful, fresh and tasty .. The staff were so friendly and helpful .. Even at 8am when I was heading out for a morning walk the open fire in the foyer was blazing away ... It was my first visit to this hotel , but rest assured it will not be my last ..
My wife and I stopped here Saturday 25th March ,a break from work and kids . If you want a relaxing break in a beautiful area with good food, wine and service this is perfect . Checked in at reception with a welcoming open fire roaring and personally shown to our room which was massive (double bed & single) clean and had everything you come to expect from today's hotel rooms , yes this is an old hotel with squeeking floorboards etc and is decorated in an oldie worldly style but it has character and is spotlessly clean ,if you prefer the modern soulless hotel chains then this isn't for you. After a nice walk on the stunning beach we treated ourselves to a spa treatment my wife a shrinking violet wrap ,full body massage and express facial and myself a cut throat shave all for 219 euro ,well worth the money with shauna and the team in the marine spa very friendly but proffesional with my wife remarking it was the best massages she has had. After a few pints in the hotel bar (4.80 euro the norm in Donegal) we went up to the restaurant and had one of the nicest meals for a long time in the spectacular surroundings of a beautiful sunset , I have worked in hospitality for 25 years and I am quite hard to please food and service wise but everything was perfect.. previous reviews about "mediocre food" makes you question wether some people should just stay at home and not be out in public annoying hardworking businesses and staff.. Our bill was approx 100 euro including wine (crab and fish cake starters , steak and stuffed chicken mains ,pavlova desserts and coffees ) all cooked and presented perfectly by attentive staff . We did return to the bar to listen to the music advertised but it didn't happen for some reason ? All in all we will return and would have no hesitation in recommending this lovely little place.
This is one of my favorite hotel in Donegal but I get the sensation this hotel is getting worst with the time. Hotel rooms desperately need a refresh as the floors are extremely noisy even if the beds are still good and comfortable. Food has become really mediocre and made me recently sick even if the reception couldn't not accept food poisoning coming from sea bass could appear before 12 hours. The main was refunded after discussing with the manager but no meds were made available despite being at 30 minutes from the closest chemist on a Sunday. A genuinely need to get an upgrade to stay at the top as Bnb's around are currently scoring better for cheaper.

Ideal for a relaxing, romantic break. One night wasn't enough. We were surprised to have full view of the beach from our bedroom. Room was very clean and spacious although a little dated. Parts of the hotel seem modern and up to date and others dont. The charm of location definitely trumps any issues with hotel. We understood the hotel had recently been re-opened. Dinner and breakfast were amazing. Lots of staff on hand and restaurant was well managed. Would definitely return.
The hotel is nice enough and in nice location. We had 2 rooms booked for one night. First room we got moved due to flooded bathroom -after one shower the bath leaked out the bottom. The hotel acted promptly and upgraded to new room. In the 2nd room we booked( not the upgraded one) I had no heat as the radiator was broken. No extra blankets in room. I woke several times due to the cold. We made reception aware the next morning upon checkout but we were just met with "ok, I'll have someone look at it"- hardly an apology. I didn't expect to pay full price to be shivering half the night. Would have rated poor but for swift action with the bathroom. One night and a lot of unwanted experiences.
Oh how we all wished we had more time to stay here. I had back trouble and would have loved to go to the Spa. Everything was perfect, the scenery overlooking Donegal Bay. Dining room was lovely as it too was situated to look over the Bay as one eats. The twilight, clouds and waves all brought an end to a perfect day.
The Sandhouse is in a great location. I immediately started to unwind after arriving into our sea view room. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The fry the next morning was one of the best I've had in a while. I am knocking off one star only because the room we were in, whilst spotlessly clean, was shabby insofar as it could do with being redecorating and having some small things fixed e.g. the bin in the bathroom was broken, as was one of the sink taps, the toilet lid wouldn't stay up by itself, the pelmet over the window looked like it might fall down. But overall, I would visit again.
