We just had a four night stay at Hotel San Paolo Roma. My husband and I wanted to love the place because it’s our first time in Italy. We were hoping that staying a little bit out from the centre of things would give us a bit of extra value for money, however, we don’t believe it did. The facilities are new, which is great. Bedrooms don’t look as nice as the pics, but they’re new so they’re fine. The staff at the front desk and the restaurant are very helpful and friendly. However, there is building work being done to the roof of the hotel, which started at 08:30 in the morning. We weren’t notified of this at any time before being woken up by it and it’s very loud. The bed we slept in was horrendous. I’m not a particularly fussy bed person, but both my husband and I had terrible sleep on the beds. I woke up with each morning with a sore back and sore hips where I’d been sleeping, feeling as though I’d slept on the floor. Only one ply toilet paper, which my husband wasn’t impressed with. 😆 We had dinner on the first night which was okay. However, breakfast wasn’t great - no real heathy options. A lot of the food was old and stale. No egg options other than scrambled eggs. Overall, i would definitely not rate the hotel a 4 star. I’d say it’s a 3 and then only because the facilities are new. Watch out for additional Italian city tax of €6 per person per day wherever you stay.
Spacious room with spacious sit out balconies. Bathroom was ok, but just a little more attention to details will make it perfect. Restaurant staff were hard working and pleasant. During dinner, they were attending to a large group that came for dinner, but they still took good care of other guests that came to the restaurant- excellent work. Location was good- close to the station.
This is a great hotel just outside the main centre but with some good restaurants, shops and metro just round the corner makes it a great place to stay. It's a lot cheaper and quitter than staying in the centre but as the metro is only 3 minutes walk away. You can get to most places within about 15 minutes on the metro and it's cheap, think it was €24 for a week pass. As we walked in we was greeted by friendly staff and made to fill at home straight away. When we got to the room I was amazed how nice the room was for the price, it was very clean with a safe, minibar, toiletries, air conditioning and a big balcony. We ate at the hotel restaurant one night and it was okay, just your normal average hotel restaurant. We found a little family run restaurant just round the corner that has great food for a good price and if you like wine you will get a nice red or white for €6, mains are about €10.
We had a fantastic stay at this hotel! The location is perfect for traveling anywhere in Rome because it is just a short walk to the metro station. There are many cafes restaurants and pizza shops withing walking distance as well! The staff is very kind and helpful. I recieved a map and recommendations on the best places to visit. The front desk also helped me book tours. Our room was very clean. It was serviced every day with new towels. The staff gave us as many pillows and blankets as we wanted and were very curteous. Our room had a safe in it that we used everyday for while we were out. Dont be fooled by the exterior, this is a very safe and upscale hotel. It was also very close to St. Paul's Basilica, which we enjoyed walking to for mass. My only critique would be the beds. Our bed was too hard for my liking. Otherwise, it was a great experience!
Decent hotel, short walk to the nearest train station, not much to do in the area but not far to central Rome. Only bad thing I have to say is about the hotel room doors. It should automatically lock once you close the door but ours didn't. We told reception and was told to just close the door and it will eventually close. I didn't feel comfortable leaving my room unlocked whilst we went away, but one member of staff came down and realised our room door was faulty. Once we arrived back we were told an engineer had fixed the issue and everything is now ok for it to happen again the next day. It just left an uneasy feeling not knowing if our room had locked etc. Besides that our stay was nice and would recommend the hotel if they made the doors more secure.
Pros - Still in the airport from my trip and felt the need to write a review. The hotel is as pictured with a sizable terrace, clean rooms, friendly staff etc. I stayed for roughly a week with my son, left for 4 days and returned. They held our luggage for us while we traveled which was nice. Cons - location which seems OK in the beginning because it's out of the way ( 6 stops or so from Roma Termini) but it gets old after awhile. Additionally the neighborhood is a bit run down - though safe - and there is virtually nothing to do or eat nearby (we did the Basilica on the first day and were done). Construction happening daily next door. There is a local restaurant Saolo which is awesome but a bit pricey and after 3 days...thus you end up spending a grip on the hotel restaurant as it is the only option! Went to check out and they charged me an additional 20 E per night for my son as an "additional person" because they said I checked "single room". Literally same room, double beds and they held both our luggage while we traveled!!! Surcharges were more than the room rental. I would recommend spending a few more bucks and staying closer to the center of town. Its worth it for convenience and variety and there a a billion hotels...
The hotel located near san paolo metro station. To reach the reception of the hotel you have to reach the first floor . The rooms are clean and good size but there is no smoking rooms. The price is reasonable . The staff were so friendly and helpful .
Had a lovely three-night stay here, just myself and my 16 year old daughter. Lovely welcome and provided with a map and advice where to go and what to see. Just a very short walk to the metro line and very easy to get around. Even when the main metro and bus strikes were on yesterday, we managed to find a tram and alternative bus that took us right to the hotel (well maybe a minute walk) so good location without needing to pay ‘Rome’ prices! Lovely room (413) which was very clean and well made up. Breakfast in good supply and a provided good choices. After a long day, we ordered food from the restaurant but went to collect (to save room service charges). Meals served on a lovely silver tray with silver done food covers and proper cutlery/napkin....not a usual takeaway meal! All in all a lovely hotel, in a good location. Would I stay again.....yes, even though I like to travel around, it’s been a great base for the city.
Highlights of this hotel - nice rooms a for great price, within short 3 minute walking distance to Basilica metro which will take you to the city center in 6 stops ( Termini station for the high-speed trains), hotel has great dinning room food, nice buffet with some American cuisine, and near a grocery just a few steps away. Disappointments - the city scape around the hotel is a little run down, but luckily we felt fairly safe. I wish we would have stayed closer to the Rome termini station and Colloseum area to be in the center of all of the sights. This might seem unimportant, but the incense in the hallway smelled unusual and stirred up our allergies. Our hotel room here was very nice and looked just like the pictures . The front desk staff was amazing and spoke English, which was very helpful. I am writing this almost 6 months after our trip, but I want to thank Fransceca and the blonde haired male desk clerk for being very helpful . We were able to get help with directions to the metro and grocery and to help us with car service to the airport and back (approximately $60 and well worth it ). We were slightly jet lagged after flying 15 hours from Florida in the US, so the car service helped and it took about 30-45 minutes to get to and from the Fiumicino airport. The hotel has a shuttle service they recommend and can reserve for you . We stayed here a week and were very pleased with the service we received. The hotel was quiet and had great customer service.
Excellent Stay . Very modern and chic hotel. Just 4 yes old property. Rooms are smart and very very clean. It's a 60s building renovated in to a hotel. The hotel Walls are very thin and could hear other rooms sound. Bathroom is extremely clean. Only negative of the bathroom was the shower cubicle floor is very slippery. We we're upgraded to a deluxe room with a lovely terrace. Over all good value of money in Rome.
