The former residence of Pope Clement IX (when he was still a cardinal). It's a nice hotel with plenty to see within walking distance. The hotel is across from the Basilica of St. Mary Major and a few other churches are nearby. The breakfast was nice. It also has a nice courtyard to relax in. Try to see the lovely little chapel if you can. The space is a little on the small side, but that's part of staying in a Roman hotel.
We visited for three nights in August 2017. The hotel is designated as a 4 star hotel but this can only be due to the location as oppose to the actual quality of the hotel. Our first night we were in a room on the second floor which had very loud drainage noises coming through the walls at random points throughout the night and zero wifi access. We reported the wifi issue to the the reception that night and were told that we should just go to another part of the hotel to use the wifi. This is despite the rooms having a sign saying wifi is available in all rooms. The next morning we asked for a room switch and were given one on on the fourth floor which had wifi coverage and was quieter although the fittings were not 4 star quality and one of the lamps did not work. The breakfast was adequate although they only appear to have one person working at breakfast in order to clear the tables, replenish the food and drink and wash the dishes which does not seem sensible. However saying all this the staff are lovely especially Marco (how he is so cheerful at 4am I will never know) and do their best to make the experience better for you. It is a shame as with a relatively small amount of money spent on the hotel itself then it could really be a four or even a five star hotel.
Dated decor throughout the hotel hand held shower in the bathroom. Breakfast extremely poor for a 4 supposedly 4 star hotel. Potentially dangerous table lamp in the bedroom. Redeeming feature the staff were friendly but you can only do so much with the tools you work with I.e building. Very poor wifi from certain rooms
When we arrived no one there to help with luggage although we are elderly. Sat on the bed and almost fell through it as it was broken, the fridge didn't work neither did the air conditioning. The bed was fixed, the fridge not and air conditioning fixed after two nights., thus we only had one good nights sleep. On arrival Saturday evening we weure told there was no bar, this is supposed to be a 4star hotel!! Breakfast left a lot to be desired, no good going to eat after 8.30, hardly anything left.! The only good thing about this hotel is the location and to be fair it was clean but we won't be staying there again.
I am Italian and live in Scotland. I know what Italians look for in an Hotel and what this Hotel offers, is not it. This facility takes advantage of the excellent position and of the beautiful setting to score a 4 star mark, which should really be a two. We stayed for 3 nights from 14th til 17th July 2017. Apart from the tired bedrooms and the non functioning bathrooms (broken sink tap, shower head wall attachment not attached, bathroom socket broken), the bedroom too small for 4 people, offering just one socket to serve 4 mobile phones and a hairdryer (since the one in the bathroom was broken- we had to unplug the TV), the light fittings were not functioning. We told reception twice and twice the problems were not addressed, only to be informed on the last day that at the weekends the maintenance guy does not work. On our third morning we were offered a change of room which we did not take since we heard other guests complaining about the same problems. Unfortunately this was only the beginning of the bad surprises, which unfolded to their worst at breakfast. Three mornings we had to fight for a table with other guests, went down at 9,40 and were able to sit down at 10.10, despite a larger room being available but closed to the public (U2 were in the City for a concert and Rome was full of tourists). There was only one waiter that had to cook the food, clear the tables, set the tables, wash the dishes (the dishawasher had broken), make the coffee, replenish the food. Mainly we set and cleaned our own table for three days, and had to use the coffee machine instead of the bar facilities. On the second day the milk had finished before 10 am and my son was told to drink soy milk, he tried it and did not like it so I asked politely to find some milk, the waiter went and came back saying that the storeroom had been locked and she did not have the key. A 4 star hotel should offer freshly squeezed juice but there was only a machine dispensing poor quality drinks, paper cups instead of glasses, no cutlery on display. The croissants were amazing but we had to ask for them as the tray was laying empty all the time and the waiter did not have time to refill. A lot of food choice if you read the Hotel manager's reply to the other reviews but really the cakes were prepackaged, the scrambled egg cold and tasteless and the meats boring. The personnel employed by this hotel makes the difference and went out of their way to please the guests and to make our stay a memorable one, from Giuseppe the breakfast waiter, to Francesca and Marco at reception, but for everything else this hotel is a glorified bed and breakfast in view of the position, and nothing more. Hugely disappointed to have paid all that money for this.
The property is a historic palazzo from the 1500s nestled next door to the stunning Santa Maria Maggiore cathedral. Great location! Small room. Very charming courtyard. Shower fixtures were quite dated. We had to keep the bathroom door closed so the air conditioning could cool the room, which it never did properly. Beware of the 24€ City of Rome departure tax upon your departure!! You must make reservations, and dine down the street at La Carbonara Restaurant on Via Vernisperna!!!
This is the king size bed we got. It is really a broken bed. It is truly now an ancient hotel in terms of the bed's quality. And this is a four-star class hotel. I cannot imagine how this can be. The female hotel employee tried to help by offering let us go find another hotel and later giving us a small room with single bed. That's all she can do within her power. This is the poorest family vacation we had in 20+ years.
The shower in the room I was given was completely broken (no water) so I was given an "upgrade" room in which the bathroom did, at least, have a trickle of water flow. However, as my photos show, it was not in a good state of repair nor was it clean. There were no spare electricity sockets in the room which presumably explains why the "room cleaning" simply consisted of making the bed & the phone did not work. The hotel facilities were non-existent (there is no restaurant, bar or room service) the breakfast was inedible and the management were aggressive and rude. The one saving grace was the receptionist but there are a lot of other, much better hotels nearby and I heartily recommend you stay there (anywhere else) instead.
This hotel is definitely not 4 star. Our room was adequate with good air conditioning. It was on the side of the hotel and very quiet. It had a big bathroom but the shower was awful. The shower tray was chipped and there was ingrained dirt around it. The shower was lovely and hot but the water squirted out in all directions due to a broken shower head that we did report to reception on our first day. The courtyard in the centre of the hotel is a quiet spot to relax after a days sightseeing but don't expect any drinks to be served as when we asked for coffees at 8.15 in the evening we were told the waiter had gone home. The hotel is well placed within walking distance of the Coliseum and very close to buses, trams, the metro and the train station. Breakfast was continental style with plenty of choice.
This was my first trip to Europe and our first stop. It was a lovely older hotel, but there were many glitches with the wifi and air conditioning. My daughter was being bitten from the very first night, but we assumed it was mosquitos from sitting in the lovely garden in the evenings. Her bites were getting worse and, soon, another daughter was being bitten. After three nights, she felt herself being bitten, jumped up, and took this picture. We immediately went to the front desk, presented the picture ,and they told us to pack up our stuff and moved us to a different room. We asked to speak to a manager, but the manager was never in. They took our number, but we were never called. When we were checking out, we waited for a manager who they said was not in. Two different woman, who were not identified to me, came to talk to me. I asked for a refund for the 3 nights in the bed bug room which they refused. Their claim is that my only proof was pictures of bites on children. If they had talked to me or shown any concern, they would have known it was only adults in the room. The pharmacist saw the bites and advised we change hotels. What did they do? They laundered the clothes that my daughters slept in , only at our request. They waived the city tax, and they allowed us to cancel a non refundable reservation for a future night. That is all. They told agoda.com that we didn't have proof that those bugs were in the room. They also claim that the people staying in the room after us haven't complained. I am appalled.
