Within a 30 min walk to most attractions or a $10-15 cab ride depending on where you are going but we walked to Trevi fountains, pantheon, piazza navona, Spanish steps, colleseum/forum and capitol building. We took a cab to Vatican museum area and then walked back to check out castle and courthouse. Plenty of food options in walking distance as well as coop grocery store. Friendly staff, pretty good hot breakfast. Only downside is our room in Annex was VERY small-shower was about the size of a RV/camper shower-unsure if main buildings have bigger rooms but we made it work! Still very happy with choice!

Friendly and helpful staff. Great location. Great AC. (Hard to get in europe). Good breakfast.

Nice rooftop bar, great breakfast. Good location. Maybe the best hotel breakfast ever. Able to get two separate beds in room.

Excellent staff. Helpful in everything from directions, car service, and suggestions for dinner. Breakfast was very good and much more than a roll and coffee what is usually what you find in Italy. And you can’t beat the location,

the gentlemen who checked us in (black man) was wonderful after that the staff was rude, no eye contact and when we went checkout we didn't even get a thank you, how was your stay (nothing), they boost about there open top roof area, well it is very nice but they only had one young lady waiting on people, the bar closes at 2200 but we weren't finished drinking our wine, we where enjoying the nice evening with some other guest and were run off the roof at 2200 to another lower roof but around 2215 we were told to keep it down we were laughing to load really it was only 2200 and many other people were laughing and talking outside our room till 200am, the room we either to cold or warm nothing in-between, the only thing they have going for them is the great American breakfast. location is so so, very hard to find Not impressed at all

Nice hotel near Piazza Navona, the daily breaskfast is free and excellent including scrambled eggs, bacon, fruit juice, fresh fruit, and also cheese, cold cuts, bread and pastries (pastries are excellent, try the croissants). The coffee is also very good, the ladies there cater to you, if you want cappuccino, cafe americano, cafe au lait, etc. Accross from the door of the hotel there is a very good place for lunch, pizza that you eat italian style meaning standing. All hotel personnal speak perfect English and give you help with directions to places if you want. Also they call a taxi for you.

nice, clean, pleasant rooms, agreeable staff & good location, were so pleased; we extended our stay !

We had a nice stay at Hotel Smeraldo in Rome. Very helpful staff with good English. Rooms were small but very clean and everything worked. The most outstanding feature was the breakfast buffet, served in rhe cozy dining room. Great location if you're doing tourist stuff.

Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Booked tours, gave directions, cheap taxi to airport. Four outdoor areas to relax in.

The hotel was clean and comfortable. The location was great. An excellent breakfast was included. The staff went out of its way to help in any way possible.

Perfect location to all sights and quiet at night. Hearty, lovely breakfast to last past lunchtime. Large beautiful marble bathroom. Staff so helpful. Delicious fresh gelato across the street. We hope to return.

This hotel was great. The location is perfect - we were able to walk to all of the main sites: the Vatican, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, the Colosseum, etc. There was breakfast every morning that consisted of coffee/cappuccino, scrambled eggs, bacon, veggies, fresh fruit, fresh pastries from the bakery across the street, cereal, and fresh juices. The staff in the breakfast area were very nice and wanted to make sure that you were comfortable. The staff at the front desk, while although helpful, were not as outwardly friendly. The room that we had was nice, actually a bit larger than I had expected. Room 406 had a king size bed as well as a single in the room. The bathroom was small, but was to be expected. The rooftop bar was nice, although the bartender was off one night so it was not in operation. Overall, had a great experience at this hotel and I would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is very clean and comfortable . STAFF is excellent -very helpful and friendly ,Breakfast was excellent ,The location is close t0 all the historical sites and transportation is readilly available .The food was excellent

Overall, I liked the Smeraldo. Really excellent location close to everything, which is key for first time travelers. The rooms are tiny, the shower is uber tiny, (but that's the norm in Europe, so you just deal or you go somewhere else and pay three times the price). As a pit stop, it does the job. No fridge inside the room. Think, "Door leads to bed" and that sums up the rooms. But you didn't come to Italy to admire the guest rooms. The beds are comfy, the buffet breakfasts are good and all you really need is a roof, a bed ,and a shower. Hotel Smeraldo delivers. Not fancy, not a dive. Just enough, and just right. One note to first time travelers coming in the summer: Air Conditioners in Italian Hotel Rooms are rather weak compared to US air conditioners. The AC in these hotels will cool the room, but not be cold. Commit this to memory and don't bring useless North American expectations to Europe and you'll be fine. Bring a personal mini fan, a small sun umbrella, plenty of extra shirts and collapsible water bottles, sunscreen, a sun hat and very comfortable walking shoes with insoles. You will sweat, a lot.

Great breakfasts (and breakfast staff) however the front desk staff were standard rude Italians. Great rooftop despite construction. We could hear folks walking up the stairs in the hall at night... overall well worth the money

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel for a number of reasons. Primarily, the location, a small, but charming street near the Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, food shops and lots of small stores. Don't miss the market on Friday mornings on the square near by! The staff was very helpful and always available for questions. The breakfast buffet is excellent!! We reserved a "standard double" with twin beds. If you are bringing two large suitcases and any other luggage, I strongly recommend that you reserve a "triple". There is no room for luggage AND people in the "standard double". The staff was able to give us a "triple" for the rest of our stay. I would definitely stay at Hotel Smeraldo again in the main hotel and not the annex.

The room was rather small, and so was the elevator, but I didn't spend much time at the hotel so I didn't mind. There was construction going on during the day. The terraces were nice. The hotel was in a good location.
