We had the three bedroom condo on the second floor. Check in was quick and easy. The large bottled water was great! We were able to have plenty of water to refill our bottles for our day trips. The rooms are kept extremely clean. Housekeeping does an excellent and thorough job! The kitchen was well stocked. The A/C worked fantastic. The view is gorgeous, the beach well groomed and beautiful, the price fits the budget and the Beach Bikini Bar downstairs has AMAZING food. People came from the larger resorts just to eat there. Thank you Villas DeRosa!
Just returned from a stay at Villas DeRosa Beach Resort. Our last visit to Akumal was 15 years ago and the area has changed immensely. On previous trips we stayed in condos surrounding Half moon Bay (through Akumal playa village) and we are glad we did not this time. The traffic getting in and out of Akumal playa is ridiculous. Access to Villas DeRosa is easy and convenient to all sites in the area. Staff is friendly and accommodating with maid service daily that leaves your room spotless and sand free. The food at the restaurant is good (seems pricey but then the bar next door is even more expensive). The beach is great even when hit by a huge seaweed bloom..most collected down by the Bahia resort. You can snorkel right out in the coral in front. The last day we saw a turtle and some mana rays. We attempted to relive the old days when you could discover hidden beaches along the coast...we found that is harder to do and would always return back to the hotel beach wondering why we left. We had a 5 year old and 8 year old with a second floor, ocean view, 2 bedroom. The balcony is a bit scary as there is not really a guard to prevent a small child from falling. We had to have a rule that kids couldn't be outside on the balcony without an adult. This hotel is a peaceful, intimate option amongst gorillas of resorts.
The room was a good value for the price, considering it is right on the beach. The daily maid service was great and we got clean towels and a room without beach sand every day. The on site food is a little expensive and varies in quality. The staff was very nice and accommodating.
The rooms are simple but comfortable. An ocean front room is the only way to go. 2nd and 3rd floor ideal for unobstructed view. Very friendly staff. Extremely laid back vibe. Room service a very nice touch especially for breakfast on your balcony or on the beach. Tiny but awesome beach bar right next door. A little remote - you have to drive to Akumal village but it's less than 5 minutes.
We wanted to stay away from the huge resorts and enjoy a quiet, relaxing week in Mexico. This hotel was perfect! The view from our third floor balcony was amazing. The beach out side was very quiet - just used by hotel guests - which at the most there were 8 people in the area. Defiantly book ocean front. its worth it to get up in the morning, have your coffee and breakfast on the deck and enjoy the ocean. The staff was great as well. Cleaning service perfect. They provided everything we needed in the kitchen - though the local food was so good that we ate out most meals. There was coffee too! There is only AC in the bedroom, but there was such a great breeze off the water that we didn't need it except for at night. I would highly recommend this hotel.
This is a very nice hotel and a friendly place. Great for all ages if you are looking for a low-key medium-sized hotel, not a fancy resort. The beach is perfect. This is a prime piece of real estate! Much nicer sand and beach than the larger resorts in either direction. There are about a dozen palapas with chairs and tables and plenty of available seating when we were there. You can order meals for delivery to your room, the beach or poolside. The oceanfront condos are great. The first floor condos have patios right on the beach so you can walk right out to a palapa. The upstairs condos have more privacy and great views. The kitchens are fully equipped, but the nearest grocery is probably a 15 minute drive away, in Tulum. The hotel rooms are all on the back of the building with balconies overlooking the pool area. The room decor is pretty much as shown in the photos. Not luxurious, but more than adequate and very clean. The one issue we had was no water for a shower (on the 3rd floor) a couple times, but we just waited and tried again later. There is a beach bar immediately next door, seems like part of the same property really. Great bartenders and swings! The two kayaks provided were great. The beach was raked of seaweed and free of trash. Water entry is fairly sandy, not as rocky as some beaches in the area. Good for swimming and kids digging and playing. We walked a long way barefoot on the beach. You can very easily snorkel right off the beach. You don't have to go all the way out to the reef. Just get out past where the waves break and sand covers things up and visibility clears. Look for the dark areas which are large clumps of coral where the fish hang out. This is a good central location for driving to Tulum, Akumal Bay, the numerous cenotes and adventure parks. But we didn't want to go anywhere else.
My wife and I just returned from a great week at Villas DeRosa Resort. If you're looking for a big resort with an all-inclusive option and excessive pampering, this place isn't for you. This resort is really best classified as a quaint and quiet hotel. They have a kitchen, but no restaurant. There is no bar, but there is the Beach Bikini Bar next door. The rooms are big enough, but far from luxurious. Simply put, this is a small resort, but provides a great, quiet get away, with no schedules, no hassles and is sitting on one of the most beautiful beaches we have had the privilege of holidaying on! The reef is just off the beach with great snorkelling, and Villas DeRosa has wave boards and kayaks for your enjoyment in the beautiful Caribbean Sea. The pay as you go food service was delicious. You have the choice of being served lunch on the beach, a hearty breakfast at the 'Poolside Cafe' or room service for an authentic Mexican supper. We took advantage of grabbing the Collectivo on the highway and catching a ride for only 50 pesos for two into the Pueblo of Akumal to grab some fruits, snacks and beverages for our stay. We still grabbed a few drinks and a couple of meals at the Bikini Beach Bar adjacent to the hotel's beach and enjoyed the local flavour of the residents of Adventura Akumal. We advise that anyone going to Villas DeRosa ask them to line up Cancun Valet to transport you to and from the Cancun Airport for easy travel back and forth. It cost us $165 for the round trip. Our room was beside the pool and on one evening we experienced a late night 'debate' that kept us awake for a couple of hours longer than we desired. We suggest requesting a room away from poolside. But aside from that, this vacation was plainly about as perfect as we could hope and we will be back again!
We upgraded to an oceanfront condo. Best thing we could've done. The view, location and wonderful people made for an excellent vacation. The food is good and it is a bonus to have the little bar right on the premises. We enjoyed our stay and would go back again.
Stayed 9 nights with 7 people in a second floor 3 bedroom apartment. Absolutely wonderful. The staff could not have been more accommodating and friendly. We have stayed at VDR before but not with such a large group and both times have been memorable in a great way. The beach was raked every morning, if that is important to you and the view is spectacular. We ate at the bar, by the pool and in the room (if one of us wanted to cook). It was an easy walk to the main road to catch a Colectivo to Akumal, Tulum or Playa del Carmen. The divers in the group had a great time and one of them was certified while at VDR. We used the airport transfer (set up by VDR) and it worked flawlessly. I am trying to think of something to whine about but can't so i will go to VDR again. Just thought of something to whine about---- the refrigerator was noisy but we had a few laughs at its expense.
I stayed at this wonderful little hideaway the last week in November and into December 2016 (myself and two daughters, 9 and 6). It was everything we were looking for and more. The staff was wonderful and accommodating. Always available for tips on places to visit and things to do. Tony jr, was more than personally welcoming to myself and my girls, and helped make our vacation feel more like we had someone always watching out for us and encouraging us to try just a few more interesting things in the area. Waking up to the beach and having my morning coffee watching the incredible sunrise over the ocean, melted any stress from life in an instant. The water was beautiful and we spent more time than we even expected snorkelling right off the hotel beach seeing stingray and lots of different tropical fish and coral. If anyone is even considering stepping out of the cookie cutter all inclusive vacation box this is the type of place where you can unwind, have a great time and really make some memories while having a great time.
