I've stayed 4 days for a convention. The hotel was completly booked , that's why , i think, not very well served. Check in very slowly, concierge not very attentive, good rooms but amenities and towels not replaced. Barra is not so beautiful as leblon and ipanema, only if you love more miami .....

I travel for work and leisure extensively and stay in hotels on different scales for more than at least 90+ nights a year. I very rarely feel the need to share my experience as I understand every hotel has its own business strategy. However my stay at the Windsor Barra Hotel was a total NIGHTMARE. I stayed at Windsor Barra Hotel for 8 nights recently for a conference and in my opinion there is still a very long way to go if the management team prefers to position it as a 3+ star hotel. If you plan to or are forced to stay at this hotel, my advice for you is to first lower down your expectation. I mean way lower than any normal standard to ensure your satisfaction. Don’t be fooled by the rating on the website and the price it charges. As a frequent traveler I understand perfectly that bed type is usually non-guaranteed when one books through an online travel agency. So I sent an email to the hotel to confirm my request of a king bed. The hotel didn’t bother to reply thus I sent a second email in case the first one was “accidentally overlooked.” This time I got a response that indicated my room would be fitted with a king bed. However, after check-in, I walked into a twin-bed room. Surprise! A lady at the Front Desk assisted with the change after I showed her the confirmation email sent from her hotel. Internal communication gap maybe? We eventually were placed in Room #916. I have to say it is one of the most horrible rooms I have every stayed in during these years of travel. The room was extremely tired, lacked maintenance and moldy. An outdated room wasn’t such an issue for me; however, allowing black mold to grow wild in a guestroom is a health hazard. When I walked into the room, the first thing I noticed was the strong unpleasant mildew smell mixed with the toxic smell of cleaning detergent. As there was only a pitiful small window in the room, it was quite gloomy. I tried to turn on a floor lamp which was obviously covered with black mold but it didn’t work as the power socket was broken and had fallen into the wall. The mold in the room was literally EVERYWHERE! On the peeling wall paper, mirrors, bathroom walls…etc. The shower head was so rusted and gross! It already turned GREEN! My toilet seat was loose and halfway falling off. It is also impossible to store any of my belongings in the closet as the musty wet dog smell in the closet would have ruined my stuff. I was just too shocked at the terrible quality of the guestroom in Windsor Barra Hotel at that point. Throughout all my business trips, I noticed that any hotel targeted at conference or business crowds would prepare an iron, ironing board, complimentary bottle of water, coffee and tea amenities in the room to fulfill their guests’ needs; however, NOT this hotel. You will find NO complimentary amenity except basic toiletries. There was no complimentary bottle water, no coffee/tea facilities, no kettle, not even an iron or ironing board. There is only a minibar with a ridiculous price in the room. As I was attending a conference, my shirts and pants needed some touch ups after almost 30 hours in my luggage. I had to go down to the Front Desk to ask for an iron and ironing board. When they were delivered to my room, the surface of the ironing board was obviously covered with mold. I had to clean it up on my own before I was able to use it. I again was amazed by the lack of standard and carelessness of this hotel. They did not even bother to check the condition of items before they sent those out to the guests. I really can keep going on about my nightmare at Windsor Barra Hotel as most of the basic elements needed for a decent hotel were missing but you get the picture! (Literally! Really! Look at the pictures before you decide to book a room in this horrible hotel!) I did not complain to hotel staff but decided to suffer in this room and clean the mold myself. Why? My experience taught me that if the management team allows a guest to check into a room filled with mold and the entire facilities are falling apart, do you think they care about the quality of guest’s stay? Of course NOT! You mean nothing to them but an unlucky number on their monthly revenue report. That’s it! I did however respond to my online travel agent’s real time feedback about my check in experience. The hotel did respond to my comment and notified the online travel agency through the same system that “They will address the issue directly.” Guess what? I was there for 9 days and 8 nights which should give the management team enough time to address the issue with me but well…I don’t know what exactly their response meant but NONE of the issues I mentioned were addressed during my entire stay. Upon check out, I expressed my disappointment of my stay. Don’t get me wrong, I specifically told the Front Desk agent that I was not asking for a discount but wanted the management to take this feedback for improvement. I was offered 5PM late check out which I appreciated as my departure flight was in the evening. I was told to send the communications with the online travel agent and also the photos I took to the reception’s email--which I did. I later on got a very short response from the General Manager named Marcos Bezerra to notify me that the hotel will be renovated next year without any apology for my horrible experience. The worst thing (which also proved me right on how careless and arrogant the management level of Windsor Barra Hotel) is that the GM even addressed me by a totally wrong name in the email he sent me! Correct name usage is a basic respect to the guest! It is customer service 101 worldwide but NOT IN THIS HOTEL! Of course not everything about this hotel is negative. Luckily during my stay, there was still a few staff that assisted me with passion. Jeiro at the Front Desk who checked me in and assisted on a few of my requests was very friendly and helpful. Both of the chefs who were in charge of the omelet and tapioca station during my stay were great. The guard assisting with beach chairs and umbrellas was very cheerful. Room service was very efficient and taste pretty good. I DO NOT recommend this hotel and it will always be my negative example on the sessions I provide to my staff and students. I also stayed at Sheraton Barra which is cheaper and is only about 5 minutes walk from this nightmare. Sheraton is way better. The room there is also outdated (Barra standard maybe?) but at least the facilities and service is much better! You even got a balcony facing directly to the ocean!

I went for a conference, so it was convenient for that. The location otherwise was not the most convenient, with overpriced restaurants around and shopping areas far away. The beach compensated for all that, though.

Very high quality hotel, everything was absolutely perfect except for one thing. Just one. I'm not the first to complain about this nor will I be the last, the wifi at this hotel was absolutely horrendous. The wifi almost never worked in our room, yes in our room the place where it should work the best it simply didn't. We had to go to the lobby to get semi decent wifi and that was the only place in the hotel where the wifi really worked. Room was serviced twice a day and chocolates were put out on the bed every night, the amenities kit was outstanding, but in the end you simply cannot have this kind of wifi and that spoiled our stay here. With this kind of wifi the thought of this hotel being 5 star rated completely blows my mind.

I have only good things to say about Windsor Barra. I had an ocean view room which was totally worth it. Windows on two sides of the room. The bed was comfortable, there was a fruit plate when I arrived, the room was already cooled down for me, the bathtub is a whirlpool tub so you can enjoy a nice bubblebath after a long day of sightseeing, towels changed and the room refreshed twice a day, the staff were some of the best I have experienced in all my years of traveling, the breakfast out of this world! I ate when I wasn't even hungry, everything was so fresh and delicious. I really have nothing bad to say about this hotel. They were attentive, turned down my bed at night, left chocolate, were helpful about everything, including tours, and the room was spotless. The top floor has two nice pools (a small one for kids) and you can imagine the views 17 floors up. There are 4 elevators which move you from top to bottom in 3 seconds, so there's no waiting around. The area is not so exciting if that's what you are looking for. It's a quieter part of Rio but accessible enough by subway. If I came back to Rio, I would stay here again.

I did stay at this hotel with my wife for a business meeting for 3 nights. The view of the beach is amazing and very relaxing, the staff fantastic and the rooms quiet and very clean. Running on the beach strip and stopping for some fresh coconut water was just awesome!!!!. There are some excellent restaurants at the hotel and close by. The Bfast is really excellent and a mixture of Amerian and Brazilian Bfast... Good stuff.

I had to stay in this hotel for a few days while attending a conference. I wish I hadn't. The rooms were shabby (think 1980's beachfront motel), the food was terrible, and the staff were rude. There are too many good options in Rio to waste your time and money here.

Windsor Barra is a luxury hotel in front of Barra da Tijuca beach. It´s a fantastic beach, beautiful view, it´s not overrun, very cool part of Rio. The hotel has a great breakfast and amazing lunch, especially on week.ends. I went for an event, it´s also good for Congresses. It´s near Jardim Polo Oceanico in Av Olegario Maciel (Polo Gastronomico) were you can enjoy a lot of restaurants and bars!

A beautiful hotel located in Tijuca Barra is not.near the usual hustle and bustle of Rio. And, is not overrun with tourists. The service was superb. The dining experience delightful. And, the added bonus - the magnificent ocean right across the street. The hotel is also an excellent venue for your conference needs. Access your floor in the elevator with your room key.

I am tourist who likes to stay in neigbbourhood with sufficient activity. This hotel is in Barra which is very residencial, car friendly and lacks the streetactivity that you see in Copacabana and Ipanema. Especially this is visible on weekdays. So thereforre I prefer to visit Barra in the weekends. The hotel is very luxurious and good quality rooms. The swimming pool on the roof quite large and around the hotel some restaurants.Shopping and the Rua Oligario maciel with lots of bars is within easy reach with Taxi. Also easy access to Ilha Reserva and Recreio. In weekends I would definitely stay in this very good hotel again.
