This is a new hotel and very nice. Our room was nicely appointed and comfortable. The bed and pillows were awesome. The view of the Remarkables is awesome. Our BIG DISAPOINTMENT was the dining room. We had had a wonderful (and very long) day trip to Milford Sound and got back to the hotel around 8 pm. We knew the restaurant was open until 9 pm so we were looking forward to a nice salmon dinner. Upon arriving at the dining room, we see a sign: CLOSED FOR PRIVATE EVENT. What????? How about room service (salmon)? Answer: we only do pizza and paninis for room service. We ran into a couple in the elevator who just checked in - they too were expecting to have dinner at the hotel that night. In all our years of corporate and international travel, we have NEVER been denied access to the hotel dining room due to a private event. Why didn't the "private event" rent other meeting space in the hotel? How can a hotel randomly remove a primary feature of the property from their paying clientele??? Terrible mismanagement in a very nice hotel. We did give feedback to the front desk about this. Truly hoping this issue is resolved for future guests!
