Great location but needs to address some details. The room had a problem with the airconditioning. Was broken. It was fixed with a mobile unit. We had coffee maker wich is good. Staff was friendly and diligent. No elevator!!
We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Jardin. The room was comfortable and quiet even though we were on the main floor with windows onto the street and we were there during Carnaval. Four stars because of the very friendly and accommodating service and the excellent location. Please note - the front desk is only open from 9am until 6pm (or earlier) so late arrivals will not be able to check in. Also, there aren’t any amenities - feels more like an AirBnB - no breakfast, no maid service and no lounge or restaurant. This was okay with us since we were only there for 2 nights and there is plenty of great food available within 2 minutes of walking.
Staying at this hotel is the perfect addition to a weekend in old Quebec. This quaint little hotel is perfectly located directly behind the Château Frontenac. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. This quiet place is excellent for rest after a day off walking. Very clean and with lots of character. We will definitely stay here again!!
The hotel staff are friendly and helpful. We were travelling with a baby and they helped us, without any extra charge, to change to another room because we need to have a mini freezer. Location was amazing and so close to go walking to get all Quèbec sightseeings. The hotel do not have breakfast, but hotel provides coffee, sugar etc in the room. You can find a lot of restaurants near to the hotel. We really recommend this hotel!
Hotel is in excellent location, right in the centre of tourists attractions. So every day when we walked out or back to the hotel, we got opportunities to walk the old town. I specially like the early morning walk when the streets were quiet. We arrived late on the first day. The hotel sent us a message to check our arrival time, which was very thoughtful. Through emails, we were able to understand how to check in the hotel after their office hour. Hotel was a bit dated but everything works well.
Overnight stay with my wife : ) Cute little hotel right by the boardwalk overlooking the river. I think we lucked out as we got the only balcony room! Decent size room for an overnight stay, right next to the Chateau Frontenac. Perfectly situated, walking distance to all the major attractions. Staff was awesome, attentive and accommodating, readily available to our needs. Price was reasonable for the location. Would stay there again for sure!
As I'm sure everyone else has already observed, the location can't be beat. It is right on the "Governor's Park" and is a historic building essentially built onto a castle (Château Frontenac). A quick mosey downhill puts you either in the heart of upper Old Quebec or on the spectacular Terrasse Dufferin overlooking the St Lawrence, and from there you can hike up a hill to the Citadelle / Plains of Abraham for an even more sweeping view of QC, or take the stairs or Funicular down to the cute cobbled lower streets of Old Quebec. My wife and I thought the rate (~$125 US / night on a weekend when we stayed) was a super deal based on location alone and were willing to tolerate some idiosyncracies with the property if need be. But the Hotel itself exceeded our expectations. Our host was unfailingly pleasant and gracious. He offered the right balance of attention and privacy: quick with a recommendation if requested, but not all up in the lodger's business as with some B&B's. We had a Queen room that frankly was more spacious and had nicer accoutrements than we'd seen in any of the photos on travel or booking sites (it was Room 202, there may be room-to-room variance). Good firm bed with a brand new frame and tufted leather headboard, full-length mirror, good quality dresser and desk, mini-fridge. Small bathroom, but everything was very clean and perfectly functional. Bay window looking over garden, very nice. Didn't use the TV, but it was a good quality panel (Samsung). WiFi and AC worked great. The only caveats: as I'm sure has been noted elsewhere and the Hotel itself is very upfront about, this is a historic building and there are no elevators so you may have to get your luggage and your person up a couple short flights of steps. We didn't find this problematic at all. And honestly, if you can't handle a few steps, Old Quebec probably isn't a good destination for you -- the entire neighborhood is riddled with inclines, hills, and steep grade staircases (lovely ones that by and large enhance the experience, but it is definitely not an effortless walking area). Second note is on parking -- if you drive into town you'll be paying to park regardless (probably ~$30-$50 Canadian if you're planning to leave your vehicle for a couple days), and there isn't any parking directly onsite. There are a few underground garages within a couple blocks and we used the garage by city hall after unloading at Hotel JdG. We knew coming in we'd be paying to park offsite and our host was exceptionally helpful identifying multiple garage options for us and giving very detailed directions to them. Finally, there is one set of physical keys provided for the room/building (the building is locked overnight hence the second key) -- if you are a couple that comes and goes separately at times, or a group of 3+, plan accordingly. That's it. We loved it and would gladly stay here again next time we visit.
When you arrive, don't let the quirky "lobby" (a room with a bunch of mismatched furniture) put you off. This is a charming 200-year-old establishment with friendly, helpful staff willing to answer your questions and meet your needs. It enjoys an excellent location---within walking distance to shops, restaurants, bistros and the famous Chateau Frontenac. While there's no elevator, our room was large and clean and looked out onto the park. Bathroom was small, but functional. (However, it could use towels with a bit more plush to them. They were pretty thin.) Queen size bed was comfortable and (best of all) we were able to get a good night's sleep as the hotel wasn't noisy. Overall, we were most happy with our stay here.
Location is perfect. Easy walk to everything in the Old City (as long as one uses the Funicular to get back to the top of the "hill"). Comfortable, attractive room; we had the one with a deck, so were able to have our friends come for cocktails before dinner. We parked in garage beneath city hall and left the car there for our entire stay. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Comfortable with good WiFi and friendly staff. Expensive, but so are all hotels in Old Quebec, so comparatively good value. Location is superb. Be aware that it is a three-storey walk-up (no elevator). Rooms are air conditioned, and ours had a small fridge. Would happily stay there again. Tips: There is an underground parking on the same block, but park early in the day as it fills up. Parking is a challenge throughout Old Quebec.
