Very family friendly and kid oriented resort. Everything is conviently located. This was my 2nd stay and i recommend you pay a bit extra for what they call a COMFORT room much better. I recommend everyone does this. Their standard rooms are outdated and poorly maintained. SO save yourself the aggravation and upgrade to the COMFORT room.

The beach was beautiful. The staff was friendly and helpful for the exception of the once that work of commission and were costanly trying to get you to become a member of the catalonia resort chain. ANNOYING!!!!! The standard room was outdated but clean. Never seen such a bathroom in need of renovation in all my travels. I recommend if you stay here pay the extra money instead of the standard room.

This place is absolutely amazing. We loved everything about it. The staff is very attentive, friendly, and helpful. Great entertainment throughout the day, everyday. The rooms were great and comfortable although a little outdated. However they did seem to be upgrading. We will definitely stay there again when we visit DR in the future.

This seemed like a nice resort, but my wife and I were not able to experience it for our honeymoon as planned. We were given a room that was nothing close to the room we reserved, and then the staff tried to tell us that it was the right room, and spoke rudely to us. The room they put us in also did not have hot water, and the maintenance worker came, but did nothing to resolve the issue. We were very disappointed with the check in with this resort. After fighting with the reception desk they finally said they would move us to another one of their resorts to give us a better room. Although it still was not what we expected from our reservation, it was much better than the room they gave us originally.

The setting for all the facility is nice but room are very old especially the bathrooms and I have to call for mi pillows they were dirty and smelly

We enjoyed our stay very much. We purchased a privileged room and that was a very good decision. The gourmet restaurants are excellent and our status allowed us to eat in them whenever we wanted. In particular, having breakfast in the beach restaurant was incredibly enjoying. We did have a problem with the kayak, sailboat and diving concession, but the resort staff addressed our situation promptly and professionally. This resort is heavily visited by spanish-speaking guests and english-speaking guests were rare. That said, the staff spoke english well enough to effectively communicate with us so it was not a significant problem.

We spent 7 days and 6 nights at this hotel, 3rd of July thru 10th of July, 2017. It was far from what we expected in terms of hotel cleanliness and overall presentation. The premises are old and need a total rehabilitation. The bathrooms seem to fall apart, the water pressure in the shower was missing. The rooms were not cleaned properly, on a daily basis. 1/5 The food was very good at the buffet with a variety of foods and seafoods 4/5 However, do not have high expectations from the a-la-carte restaurants (3 of them) 3.5/5 The beach and the water are fantastic 4.8/5 The staff is very friendly and willing to help but seem impotent to make any change. The buildings are so worn out that the hotel really needs TO BE DEMOLISHED AND REBUILT. The concierge personnel, friendly as mentioned above, lacks professionalism and training. Overwhelmed by the travelers influx at times, they are slow to react and resolve simple issues. I find that the owners of the Catalonia consortium are the ones at fault. Of course, their market analysis and stats probably allows them to run this hotel on a thin line. Until something ugly happens and they become liable and taken to court. We will not go back until a new hotel is erected and sanitary conditions are safe. Make sure you read the reviews well and if people insist on room cleanliness, think twice before you book this hotel.

Pleasant stay had a good time very comfortable thank you

We decided to go to this resort because of a positive experience at their other location, in Bavaro. It turns out this was a bad decision. The regular rooms are really outdated, and to make everything more exciting, there is a lot of construction going on through the resort. I heard of other people complaining about this resort being mostly for Europeans, but I did not care too much since I was born in Europe and I can speak three languages. I thought I'll be fine, but let me develop a little bit on that. There are a lot of Italians in the resort, and they are loud and fun. No problems with that. The problem is that they have their own Italian entertainers employed by the agency in Italy. That would not be necessary an issue, but they go around and only talk to the people they need to take care of(Italians), and skip everyone else--not their business. It seems that all the sport activities, and a lot of the shows are organized only for them, and you feel completely left out. When I first showed some intentions to join in in a game, the first question was, "but where are you from" like that was the criteria for them letting me play some volley on the resort's beach and court. So, between bad quality entertainment, less that average food, low quality rooms (I can't believe this is rated 4 stars, it should not be rated even 3), you should try to spent your money somewhere else; there are much better options out there for a few more bucks.

we were in dominican republic many times and like this country and beaches .this vacation was very special because it was three generation of family together .all of us very satisfied .and we want to be back maybe in the next year.thank you.

I highly recommend Catalonia Gran Dominicus! Great for family and couples! It worth the upgrade to Privilege soecially because of the Terrace Lounge! Hope to be back soon!

As soon as we got to the hotel we where amazed. We received refreshing papaya juice which was refreshing while we checked in. Room was unique. Staff amazing. Performers amazing. There was so much to do with so little time. Over all best experience =>

Hotel and amenities are OK. Nice food selection and great Italian entertainment staff. Room was ok but Air Conditioning stopped working for 2 days and half. Hotel staff was definitely not oriented in making the vacation more comfortable despite the A/C failure. We travelled with a 3 moths old daughter and we spent two horrible nights with no sleep at all. Rooms don't have Mosquito nets, therefore choosing to have decent amount of fresh air equals to being eaten alive by mosquitos. Hotel staff was unable to find a solution in a reasonable time, given the outside temperature. Kids suffered the most. Overall great location and amenities. Great food and entertainment form Italian Staff. Hotel Management is well below average.

I liked this resort a lot. The best part was the FREE wifi. The beach was very nice and the resort as well. The worst part was the service. The main bar employees were more busy talking to each other than working the bar. It sometimes took 15 minutes to get beer. BEER! Not for lack of employees but lack of focus. The food needs some serious help! The food court is extremely confusing! There is a VIP area for sitting which tends to have all guests confused as to whether the food near that area is included to all. IT IS! The lack of interaction with the guests from the employees manning these stations is sad. I speak both English and Spanish fluently and sometimes felt like I couldn't communicate! The set-up sucks. The food options are horrible. The friendliness from staff needs an overhaul! On the plus side, there is a whole buffet dedicated to the younger guests which I thought was an amazing idea. In fact, the kids activities seemed to be going on all day and the kids looked as if they were enjoying them immensely. I didn't travel with children and it was good not to feel overpowered by their entertainment. Overall, I would give it another shot and hope they continue making obvious upgrades that were in the works

The grounds are nice and very well kept. The beach is ABSOLUTELY beautiful. The rooms are OK but need renovation. Some room's ACs do not work very well but overall - manageable. The food is not fancy or great variety but is a good quality. The staff is very friendly and pleasant but noticeably not great with English, which was not really a problem for us. Overall we loved the place.

The hotel was perfect, exceeded my expectations and i would recomened for family with kids, young couple or any type of vacations.

This place is absolutely amazing. We loved everything about it. The staff is very attentive, friendly, and helpful. Great entertainment throughout the day, everyday. The rooms were great and comfortable although a little outdated. However they did seem to be upgrading. We will definitely stay there again when we visit DR in the future.

nice hotel on one of the better beaches in the dom
