We arrived the day of the Queima das Fitas parade. The hotel called me the week before to alert me to the fact that the street in front of the hotel would be closed to cars and suggested our taxi drop us off at the nearby Sau Bento train station. They offered for us to call and they would have someone from the hotel meet us there, help with luggage and escort us to the hotel. It was a 1 minute walk to the hotel which we easily did without assistance but the heads up phone call and offer were appreciated and emblematic of the service provided at the hotel. We were upgraded to a 2 floor suite with 2 baths. It was very spacious although the closet location was not always that user friendly. The buffet breakfast was varied and good quality. The concierge staff were excellent. Their dinner recommendations outstanding. Thank you Rogerio and Bruno.
We were upgraded to a small suite facing the Plaza, which gave us the perfect vantage to watch the 2017 Queima das Fitas parade. Students graduating from universities in Porto and nearby, dressed in capes reminiscent of Harry Potter, parade through town, singing and celebrating, ending in the Plaza. The Porto medical school, which started the tradition in 1920, leads the university groups, starting around 4:00 p.m.; the last group does not pass until almost midnight. The celebration was a surprise to us, but gave us cause to enjoy dinner in the room. The room was comfortable and well-appointed. Breakfast and dinner room service was first-rate. The tariff was quite reasonable.
We checked into the hotel and immediately got greeted by the friendly hotel staff! The interior of the hotel is well designed and very classy, we absolutely fell in love with it. The room was spacious and comfortable, and it comes with an amazing view of the plaza. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful, they gave us great recommendations on where to visit and to dine at. A Big thumbs up to Joel from the hotel who helped us through the entire stay! The hotel is located in the center of everything, all the tourist attractions are within walking distance, you could not find a better location in porto than the inter continental. We had an amazing stay here and will definitely return.
We arrived in Porto on a Sunday at noon. First time in Portugal.Took the train from the airport to the hotel. Our room was ready even though we got there much earlier than the check in time. The check in took almost no time and soon we were in our room unpacking. We asked the concierge to give us the download on what, where, when and got a whole list of restaurants and places to visit. I want to make sure that I recognize Gonçalo and Rogério , our concierges at the hotel. They helped us make the trip so much better by pointing out places of interest and recommendations. If you need to make a reservation anywhere, they work miracles. The room we stayed in was clean, beautiful and comfortable. The bathroom is quite large. The staff surprised us with deserts and Port and flowers, as well a a hand written note welcoming us. We dinned at the hotel twice and had breakfast there 3 times. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is very pleasant. No hustle and bustle at all. One can take the time to enjoy the food and the wine without having to rush. The hotel is close to everything in the old city and that made it so easy to get everywhere. I had a wonderful time while in Porto and a big contributor was the hotel and the staff. I highly recommend the place for anyone that would consider spending a day or more in Porto.
This was a wonderful hotel ideally situated in the downtown area of Porto. A top of the line facility with very luxurious rooms and bathrooms, great wifi and nice wine bar and excellent breakfast. Commercial area is five minute walk away - as are tons of restaurant, shops and sightseeing locales. Staff very friendly with local information on restaurants etc. International New York Times available in the lobby. High end luxury shops (Rolex etc) are found in the lobby as well. Hotel faces one of the main squares in Porto. Intercontinental is a hub for high end tourism in Porto.
This fine example of the Intercontinental Group of hotels in the center of Porto, Portugal, is not readily apparent from the well kept but historic nature of the exterior. The inside, however, is magnificently appointed. Service is beyond reproach and food presentations are outstanding. This is an excellent choice when one visits Porto.
I loved this hotel. I got room #108 which was huge and had its own living room area and two balconies overlooking the Plaça da Liberdade. The room also had a bathtub and shower, with marble tiles. The breakfast was indeed amazing and delicious. The concierge were topnotch and would go out of their way to make sure I was comfortable and saw the major areas in Porto. I was not very impressed with the front desk staff who checked me in. They were too rigid with the rules of check-in time and misinformed me about the breakfast package being included in my IHG reservation. The reservation manager did allow me a late checkout, which was much appreciated. I'd stay here again if I needed the pampering.
Everything works at this beautifully restored hotel in the very middle of Porto. Excellent and helpful staff always thought of ways to help during our stay. Only slight "constructive comment" is that the Concierge was not fully up to date with events that were being held in the City during our stay - but when we uncovered them ourselves he/they were very happy to check availability and to make restaurant bookings for us. Breakfast in the beautiful restaurant was very good and relaxing. Our room cost Euro 340 a night and breakfast was Euro 22. Well recommended f your us are looking for a top class luxury hotel.
It is hard to criticise this hotel, from the really welcoming reception staff and the housekeeping staff, who ensured that the room was arranged to our satisfaction and comfort (and lovely toiletries which I actually used!) This is a beautiful building, with stylish but comfortable furniture and fittings, in prime position on the main square. Breakfast was very enjoyable, plenty of hot and cold dishes, well presented, omelettes etc to order. The attention to detail in service, decor and comfort made this a lovely 3 night stay.
We stayed on a leisure/work trip and had a beautiful room with a big bathroom on a 4th floor facing the back (we requested this as noise was a concern). The room was spacious, nicely decorated, cleaned very well and there was a nightly turn down service which I love and wish more hotels with 5 star ratings offered. The concierge were amazing! Gave us great recommendations, payed attention to details, very courteous. I really hope I have an opportunity to stay in the hotel and this beautiful city again!
