We arrived a little grotty from being on a boat for 4 days in the Douro, and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Our room was lovely and extremely comfortable. It was quite large and so was the bathroom. We had a great view of the square across the street. The hotel has a great bar and restaurant. The staff is helpful and willing to give their opinions or book tours for you. It's very easy walking distance to everything. Porto is a wonderful walking town, and it was nice to return to the hotel in the late evening for that final glass of Port in a very comfortable place. Would definitely recommend.
We just stayed at this property on a weekend in October and it was a wonderful stay. Not only was our room INSANELY gorgeous and well-kept, the service was amazing. Of note, I left all of my jewelry in a pouch in the hotel upon relocating to Lisbon and realized this in Lisbon... We emailed the concierge and spoke with them about getting it sent to the next hotel I was staying at in time for us to receive it before we flew back to the US. They were so quick to respond and help us and worked with a courier service to get the package sent to us next day in 100% perfect condition. Beyond this, the bar, the look/feel of the hotel, and the way they treated us as guests were A+. Also, the hotel is right in the heart of everything. We highly highly recommend this hotel. Thank you!
Loved every minute of our stay. We were upgraded thanks to our travel agent and had a gorgeous suite. Everything from the cleanliness to the very helpful staff was just great. The buffet breakfast was good but the friendliness and service from staff made it so good. Thank you Mogol for assisting with a question I had. We had a gorgeous meal in the dining room. I would say five star service and food preperation. Consiege were very helpful and had good knowledge of the area. The position of hotel is very close to main station plus metro. The square in front hotel has lots public bus & tram lines put via the main point for hop on/off bus. It is an easy walk down to the river. Thank you for a wonderful finish to our two month holiday
Be travelling for 2 Months finished off with three nights at Porto . Was refreshing Staff excellent we also had dinner in the restaurant it was to (die for) Very good location. Sorry forgot to take photos.
Intercontinental is the premier hotel within the group that includes Crown Plaza and Holiday Inn. This property is best to be a Crown Plaza. Converted from a bank building six years earlier, the engineers and designers forgot about guest comfort and amenities. Our suite was very nice however the AC did not work properly our entire stay even with them knowing about the issues. No doubt this has been consistent since their opening. There was no balcony and if you opened a window the AC shut off. Turn down amenity is a Holiday Inn type chocolate square and one bottle of water. They advertise a wellness center with spa services but the entire experience is below average. Located in the basement, the wellness center consists of a terrible gym (very few free weights and no weight machines at all, no yoga mats), tiny locker rooms without towels or hair dryers, no relaxation area and a sauna. The receptionist is the massage therapist. The morning breakfast room is nice however there is no outdoor seating. Food is mediocre at best and the buffet does not change daily. The dining room opens at 7:30PM as is the highlight of the hotel. Here they offer outdoor seating and a very nice menu with fresh ingredients. The bar is OK but serves awful $17.00 martinis that don't even fill half the glass. When asked for a full size martini the bill came in at $34.00. The experience is far from 5 or even 4 stars especially with the nameplate. But in Porto they have a captive market and the location is excellent inside the main square.
Stayed for 4 nights with my husband and two sons. Hotel staff is polite and helpful. We booked a Junior Suite and second room with double beds. Rooms were clean and spacious with nice amenities. Bottles or water and treats like natas and small bottles of port or champagne were awaiting us each afternoon upon our return. Breakfast buffet was quite nice and service was lovely. Concierge was very helpful booking excursions. Hotel is close to city center and walking distance to river and many restaurants. We had a drink in the bar but didn't eat at the restaurant (other than the breakfast buffet) but the menu looked very nice. Connecting rooms were unfortunately not offered and there is no club lounge.
This hotel would be considered fine enough for its beautiful, historic exterior, and lovely interior, coupled with the most up-to-date of technology and comfort in the rooms themselves. Additionally, the Cafe Astoria is a fine restaurant, and the delightful bar offered good live entertainment on several nights during our stay. What sets it apart, though, is the tremendous staff, unfailingly friendly, helpful, and supremely competent. We arrived after a stressful flight and train-ride, but the confusion and stress diminished as soon as we got out of our cab. The bellman and staff greeted us, took us into the hotel, and introduced us to the receptionist - the feeling given was that we were valued guests of the hotel, and nothing that the staff of any of the hotel's facilities did within the next 5 days diminished that feeling. I give special kudos to the concierge staff that were always ready and willing to help. In the course of our stay, I never once heard "no" or "sorry" in response to a request, only "let me see if I can help" and "of course, sir, don't worry." Follow-up was always intact. A few of the great employees (but there were many more whose names I don't remember) I met were Vasco, Diogo, Ana, and Francisca - who was an absolute angel. One morning, at breakfast, we witnessed her mastery of customer service, as a rude, demanding hotel guest complained that "her" table had been moved. She tried, at first, to reason with the woman - - - but when she saw that the situation could escalate, she kindly put her hand on the woman's arm, and said: "I understand, madame. You want your table back" and asked a bus-boy to fetch the table, which had been moved to the bar overnight. Anyone else would (me included) have told her to shut up and take one of the many other tables available in the breakfast room. But Francisca handled the situation with such grace and tact, I could hardly believe it. I only relate this story to give an idea of how superior this hotel is when it comes to service; I could tell many, many more. Honestly, staying at the Palacio das Cardosas Porto Inter Continental hotel will go down in my personal history as one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had. I thank everyone associated with this hotel for preserving the sense of what a "grand hotel" really is!
This hotel is a gem! Staff are wonderful from the front desk agents to bar staff. The hotel is comfortable and well appointed. The hallways were quiet. The rooms are quiet, we had a room overlooking the courtyard, by req. The request. A great 5 place bathroom with excellent bath products. Towels were luxurious. The bed was comfortable, there is a pillow menu with 6-7 pillow choices, request for a pillow was met in a timely period. The location could not be better, a short walk to the river. and the hotel sit in the center of the historic district. Sao Bento metro and train station are just steps away. Numerous restaurants are close by also.
A lovely hotel, with a boutique feel and a delicious breakfast in an upscale dining room (make sure to include the cost in your stay). The beds were very comfortable, the room was stylish and spacious and the location is pretty central to most other neighborhoods in Porto. I wish the concierge had been a little more helpful with dining recommendations––a lot of places close between 5 and 7 PM, and many of them require reservations, which wasn't made clear to us. We also weren't informed that the hotel offers a free port tasting at Graham's, which is across the bridge, and up a very steep hill, but well worth it so take advantage. And our AC did not work properly the first night, so we were very hot and uncomfortable, and it took three phone calls for it to be properly fixed. There was no compensation for this.
We loved everything about this hotel. It is really in the best possible location in Porto, close to absolutely everything. The hotel is beautiful and treats it’s guests in a very special way. Valet parking is a very welcome feature and the greeting was very friendly and check in efficient. Our executive room was very nice with all the expected amenities. Concierge service is excellent too. The only minor disappointment was with the bar where the service that night (Sept 28) was not very customer friendly.....however we would not hesitate to return to this hotel when in Porto.
