Dunes Motel Hillsboro

Stayed here for one night(9/1) and it was ok. had a room with 2 queen beds, small microwave & fridge. It was adequate for our one night stay before heading to the coast but I don't think I would stay longer since there are no amenities there.

Good price if you want a no-frills place to stay. Not much for amenities and you can only enter from street while driving North. Staff was friendly and room was clean. Not the best neighborhood. Ok for what we paid.

I recently stayed at the Dunes Motel in Hillsboro and was very pleased with the service.Dunes is a good budget hotel. I stayed at this place for a 4 days to visit Intel Jones Farm and surroundings and I can certainly confirm all the excellent reviews you can read about it. The bad was comfortable and my room on the ground floor was very quiet!

I'll start with the positives: reliable and fairly decent free wi-fi, beds were extremely comfortable, close to lots of restaurants and coffee shops, wall-mounted flat-screen TV, big bathtub, and the room was clean upon check-in. Mary and the gentleman front desk agent were friendly, engaging, and provided above average service. It is apparent that the on-site owners/managers are attempting to upgrade the property with renovations and enhanced curb-side appeal. The not-so positives: the room has barely the bare essentials, there is no in-room coffee maker although there is (weak) coffee available in the mornings in the lobby (although no breakfast, yet). The service is slow; it took three days for the manager to approve an extension on my reservation even though I started the inquiry five days early. The blankets provided are like cardboard, itchy scratchy and I woke up with a rash on my first morning. Also there are no guest laundry services provided, and there was constant problems with the water pressure and the toilet never worked properly. What is perhaps most disturbing is that the on-site property team seemed more concerned about their "stay" at the hotel than with the comfort of their guests, for example I was reprimanded when my son woke up the manager's wife one morning on his way to school (at close to 8am), and on another night I received a phone call asking for us to "quiet down" when my youngest son was excited about getting into the bath. I was also not impressed that one day the housekeepers cleaned my room (by direction of the owner/manager) even though I had the do not disturb sign posted at my door, and I was not present for the service. The other "local" guests can be a bit unsavory with obvious questionable activities going on nearly every night. I have had the privilege of staying at other hotels in the Hillsboro area. Next time, I will select another property. In summary, there are better hotel options available in the area that offer more amenities and better service for a comparable nightly rate.

The smell of this place totally turned me off the minute we walked in. It smelled like baby diapers throughout the whole place. The room was ok. The mirror had debris splattered all over it and the furniture was jerry rigged with bottle caps. The rate was steep and we wish we picked a different place to stay. We were so thrown off because they had a great customer satisfaction rating. Anyway it wasn't dirty or horrible, it was stinky and disappointing.

Good deal. Clean room and really nice staff. Really a nice find. The room didn't have a hair dryer but that didn't matter to me. Nice coffee shop across the street. The room didn't include a breakfast but I don't usually like those waffle and cereal breakfasts

This place is a diamond in the rough. I like this motel but it has a few problems. The walls are like rice paper, all the sound goes straight through. The lady at the front desk was very nice. The bathroom in my room was completely redone. New tile, new bathtub and everything. The carpet was fresh and the walls were repainted. But little nail holes in the walls were everywhere. You could see gaps in the drywall where the room door was installed. This place is a little rough, but I think the owners are trying to improve the place.

I had to stay close to work and spent the night here. I checked all around and this was just about the cheapest. It was surprisingly clean. The tile in the bathroom looked new and was very pretty. Looking around and i noticed it was done quite pleasantly. I had a hard time getting the TV to work. I probably messed up the remote, just like at home. Finally hit on the right combination of key strokes and watched a little TV before bed. There were a couple of sirens in the night. Rather close. But overall it was just what I needed.

Visiting the area from the beach in Lincoln City. We're geocaching and decided that the weather was closing in on us; rain, sleet and hail. Found the Dunes to be adequate for our needs and at a reasonable price. Cable TV, free Wifi, microwave, refrigerator, comfortable bed and a clean room. No view but then we had each other. Could easily stay here again. No complains or problems.

We've often wondered whether a Likert (five-point) scale is the best way to evaluate accommodation. The Dunes Motel is a case-in-point. Our room was better than a three, but not good enough for a four. Close to light rail services, we chose the Dune to avoid city driving and city parking in Portland. We left our hire car parked in the car park... and quite enjoyed using public transport into the city. The Dunes is an older motel... and initial presentation (litter in the parking area and garden) wasn’t all that reassuring. However, our first floor room presented well, being clean and reasonably well-maintained. Other nearby rooms (open for cleaning) seemed more modern, in neutral tones, with more modern decor. The motel may be undergoing gradual, well-justified renovation. Our bed was comfortable and sheets were crisply clean. The range of TV choices wasn’t great*, but wifi was free and reasonably fast. Some of the infrastructure was a little noisy. The air-con’s whirring kept us awake, so we soon turned it off. The large refrigerator (a plus) was noisy at times. The washroom exhaust fan, noisy at first, relaxed into a barely acceptable hummmmmmmmm... . No free breakfast... and no kettle in our room for coffee and tea. We’re used to these niceties, but this is a budget motel. Leaving after two nights, we did spot some facilities in the reception area. A microwave in our room did assist us to top-up our caffeine levels. Due to security initiatives, we felt _safe_ in this motel. That's the very first requirement of acceptable travel accommodation... . * As it happened, we chanced upon a channel seemingly dedicated to the Presidental Debates... and remained amused by the comical antics of presenters, panelists, and the candidates themselves... .
