After a bad virus needed a break away and not want to go too far tried Port Macquarie. Very peasantly surprised. Lovely beaches and friendly people, seems like so many people go there and don't go back home that's how good it is. Rydges is located right in the heart of town and yet right on the river with stunning views. So convenient to everything we hardly used our car at all. The hotel had a very good bar and grill which we used frequently and also a restuarant but we never went there as there were so many other places to try outside. The staff were excellent and extremely friendly and obliging. The only criticism, the hotel rooms are a little bit tired and outdated and probably in need of a refurb, but having said that they were clean and had everything you needed. Our room was huge. I would definitely stay there again it was so close to everything you couldn't ask for more.
We have been staying here on a regular basis on the way to sydney and back home for approximately two years. The staff have always been so polite, friendly, cheerful and ever so helpful in catering for all our requests. The rooms with the balcony and water views are so good, just sitting out on the balcony sipping wine and nibbles makes for a relaxing afternoon and evening. Well done staff and rydges love your work. See you again soon
Undergoing renovation. I see the potential. We use Rydges and there was a good deal going. Staff were great, location and pool area great. Room spacious and bed comfortable, breakfast good but missing a few things. This let them down. Needs a setter watch in this area. Facilities clean.
The room was dingy poorly appointed and unclean - really a motel like experience. These guys need to ensure all rooms are reasonable standard. I don't expect allot from Rydges, but this was pretty ordinary for the price. On the upside - the staff was helpful and the pool area nice,
Our room had the odour of long stale tobacco smoke and spilled beer, leaving the impression it hadn’t been cleaned properly after an all night party. Contrary to staff claims I suspect the room had at one stage been designated as ‘smoking’. We had booked the hotel primarily because of the views it commands from it’s position close to the water and were more than disappointed with the aspect from our room of the bottle shop and the extractor fans of the kitchen of a nearby restaurant - which had the double whammy of not allowing us to open the window to dissipate the odour from the room unless we preferred the smell of chip fat as a replacement. It would have been appropriate to identify this room as having a particularly poor view at the time of booking - this would allow would be guests to make an informed decision, rather than being immediately disappointed on arrival. On taking our concerns up with the staff we were told there was nothing they could do because we “booked through Expedia” ! In addition the shower would be more adequately described as a trickle, and the room safe didn’t work. If you’re looking for a 21st Century hotel experience - best avoid this one. Given at least some of these concerns had been raised in reviews elsewhere - it would appear that hotel management either do not pay attention to their reviews, or do not care for the concerns of their guests. We will not return.
Congratulations to the team at Rydges Port Macquarie. Warm welcome from Evan's team at reception. Joyful atmosphere in the bar area of the hotel (the music has been reinstated) – hurray. Nice breakfast. Steak in the evening a little overcooked. Housekeeping, absolutely fabulous. This is an older property in a prime location with some rooms enjoying sensational views over the Hastings River. It is due for refurbishment but housekeeping are maintaining the rooms to a very high standard and deserve a pat on the back. Strongly recommended. Jan Lindrum
We stayed in a family room- a standard twin- and paid $304 through Wotif. We booked months ago as it was a one night stay on a long drive. We were looking forward to a nice hotel and pool as a stop off. Instead we got a depressing room with tired decor, tiny impractical bathroom for 2 adults and 2 kids and a miserable view of the car park and buildings next door. We also got charged an extra $12 for parking which I think is a bit much when you have paid this rate for a room. The pool is tiny and shallow and the only decent thing is its view over the water. I know hotels hate sites like Wotif- but it only makes it worse when guests have booked, paid a decent rate and then get put in the worst rooms. It put a complete dampener on the end of a great holiday elsewhere. We didn’t want to have breakfast or dinner there after this and found a decent local cafe nearby instead. It might be a good stop for a business traveller - one positive is the great location- but there are better options as a holiday hotel. If it had been under $200 it would have been fine but the perception of a $300 stay is very different. I also appreciate it is peak season but this was way over priced. We were glad to leave.
I'm currently on a work trip for 3 weeks around coffs and port macquarie areas. I'm staying at Rydges port macquarie and specifically booked rydges because I figured it has a good reputation for being a quality hotel and the heavy price tag along with it. I booked a room at a very high rate but was a massive letdown. The room smells damp and the furniture is dated, chipped and scratched and the walls have lots of scuff marks and dents in it. The photos speak for themselves. The tv was very grainy and reception indicated thats as good as the signal was and that the tv's are old. If this was my holiday, I'd probably leave. But work is keeping me busy and i'm out of my room alot. The outside window is dirty and big spiderwebs but i guess all I can see is a brick wall and car park below. Overall disappointed with this experience:(
I attended a two-day professional event at the hotel, which included all meals, as well as an optional $100 dinner that I accepted. I am a vegan, and had asked for vegan food, prior to the event. The food that I was provided was terrible - my $100 dollar meal consisted mostly of vegetables, without any protein whatsoever, and I had to find more food afterward. The lunch that I was provided the next day seemed to be only reheated vegetables from the dinner before, whereas other attendees were provided a nutritional three-course lunch. I received low quality food and insufficient nutrition, despite paying as much as everyone else, which is I feel is unfair. This made my stay unpleasant. I have confirmed with the hotel that this catering was provided by the hotel itself, and not a third party. All other aspects were fine.
It was nice enough but we didn’t feel that a great customer experience was a priority here. There’s a $4 charge to bring ice to your room, we paid for parking but could only get in with 1 of our cards (we were not told this which caused some issues for us as myself and partner were off doing separate things). Quite a bit of back and forth. Towels in the pool area are tiny and insufficient. Room service menu was average, television was cutting off half the screen (which we tried to fix to no avail). Room decor is very dated and desperately needs an upgrade/refurb. Hotel is in a great location and the pool area is nice (albeit too small). Gym has no weights, just a handful of machines. Not one of the best Rydges we’ve been too.
