Had a great time here, staff very friendly, great amenities and very close to town. Highly recommend this place as it wasn't too expensive and the rooms are spacious and had everything we needed. We'll definitely stay here again.
There may be bigger hotels but I doubt if any will match the individual help and care, Anne and her husband give to their guests. This is a lovely hotel minutes away from wherever you want to be in Port Douglas and I'm sure we'll be back again in the near future
I stayed at Freestyle Resort for a week and thoroughly enjoyed it. The wonderful Anne, who runs the resort with husband, Jason (who I never met), is one of the nicest people you could meet. When I arrived she offered me the choice of two rooms, I loved the one I chose. It was very quiet and overlooked a small park with plentiful bird life. The units are spacious, clean and comfortable and I settled in happily and could have stayed longer. Anne was obliging and helpful and always ready with a smile and a chat even when busy. It is the personal service that is the big draw card here. The resort is not as glossy or flashy as some of the others in Port Douglas but I enjoyed it so much I would definitely stay there again. The walk to the main street is about 600metres. I walked home in the dark alone each night and never felt unsafe as there are always plenty of others out walking.
We have just had eight wonderful days at Freestyle. We just love it here. The apartments are roomy, everything is in good condition. The kitchen is well equipped and we also used the bbq. The beds are large and comfy. We had an apartment overlooking the pool which is nicely landscaped, with wisteria growing on a pergola and ponds of water lilies at each corner. The managers, Anne and Jason are so pleasant and nothing is too much trouble to them to ensure their guests have a good stay. We often left the car in the undercover park and walked into town (10 mins) where there is lots of choice of eateries. This is our first choice.Cant wait to go back.
We stayed at the Freestyle Resort for two nights in room 14. Our room was a studio apartment with a small kitchen area, fridge, freezer, balcony with table and chairs, sofa, chairs and TV, bedroom with a big double bed and bathroom with a shower cubicle - overall very impressed with the size and decoration. The resort is about a 5-10 minute walk to the marina and main shopping street. It is a quiet town with a few restaurants (Chinese, fish, Brazilian, Mexican) but we found these shut very early and there wasn't really anywhere to go for a quiet drink afterwards. I'd really recommend Hemingway's Brewery at the marina for food but also for their own brewed beers which were excellent! In the resort reception area, there are lots of different leaflets and brochures advertising trips and Anne is very helpful at giving some suggestions or advice. We went with Calypso on a half day snorkelling tour to the Low Isles which was well worth it! You start off on a main boat and then transfer into a glass bottomed boat. For those that want to snorkel the reef, you are dropped at the beach and the rest can go on a mini boat trip in the glass bottomed boat and then back with some time still to snorkel if you wish. We also went on a half day (morning) trip with Daintree Discovery Tours which consisted of a trip along the Daintree River looking for crocodiles, tea and scones in the village and finally on a 4x4 car ride through the forest to a lovely waterfall with fish and turtles which you can swim in. There are lots of trips running from Port Douglas so it is a great location to explore the fantastic things the surrounding areas have to offer.
We only had a brief stay, however helped by the co-owner Anne we managed to book to see local attractions. Four Mile Beach, the city Marina, (Hemingway bar in the Marina is worth a visit) & town are in walking distance. Restaurants stopped serving early compared to Europe. We did a Low Isles Reef trip & Daintree National Park visit, which were excellent.
We ended up booking Freestyle last minute as the place we had booked was truly awful and we needed to change. Thankfully Freestyle had a two bedroom for us for 6 nights, which really saved us. Freestyle is a really friendly and comfortable place to stay. Ann and Jason who run the place really make sure you have what you need. We have 2 kids under 3, so they let us check in early, and were very thorough in letting us know the best places to eat and visit with small children. They even have beach toys etc to borrow. The pool is also not too bad for small kids - with lots of shallow bits (and we had it all to ourselves most of the time). The rooms are well equipped and clean, with a great balcony for eating dinner. For people with small kids be aware the two bedrooms are on two levels so it is a bit tricky (and rooms aren't very soundproof), but we managed pretty well. The bath is massive. The location is perfect. Only a short and very easy walk into town, and to the beach. We would definitely stay here again.
Our 2 week trip to Sydney has placed us into 4 hotels/resorts so far. And freestyle resort has been the best place of stay so far. Had a slight mixup in our booking and freestyle was the only place that accommodated 9 people with grace on such short notice.
We stayed here off peak season, and pretty much had the pool to ourselves most days. Anne and Jason really cares for the place and their guests and the rooms are clean and nice. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. Great stay!
This was a great place to stay...the room was very comfortable. The pool is lovely (but not big). The kitchenette allowed us to cook our own meals. The location was excellent, within walking or cycling distance to most things we wanted to do in the area.
