I have stayed here a few times and it is still a great place to chill out especially the rooms with their own swim out pool. The new bar on the 7th floor that is open in the evening has one of the best views in Kata, the breakfast is pretty ordinary with salad and chocolate donuts, but as I have been coming to Thailand every year for over a decade now I have found it doesn’t cater to English speaking tourists anymore.
I stayed for 5 nights at Sugar Palm Grand Hillside and was very satisfied with the experience. Firstly, the hotel is located in an extremely convenient position for great food and massage in the town, and especially for a wonderful part of Kata beach. Within 5 minutes you arrive at a part of the beach that offers the best snorkelling I have seen in my life, along with good facilities and bars nearby. Heaven! The hotel itself could use some upgrades - mainly the wifi (which comes and goes), the tv channels available, and the breakfast was good if not spectacular. However, for the price I feel that this hotel represents excellent value and I felt wholly satisfied with my stay. A final comment is that I was very impressed by the staff at all times - in particular I thought the breakfast staff and the cleaners were really friendly and professional.
We stayed at this hotel for a week and had a great time. It was our first time in Phuket and this hotel for us was definitely a highlight. The hotel staff is really helpful and friendly and were always ready to take an extra step to make us comfortable (special thanks to Paul and Pop) The hotel is at a very convenient location, close to shops and just a few minutes walk to the beach. Yet, while you are in the hotel its calm and peaceful away from hustle. During our stay, my partner got sick and the staff really helped us out. The breakfast was great and heaps of options to choose from with a different menu everyday. In saying this, it will be good if they add more options for lunch and dinner menu. We chose to stay in their pool access room and I believe it was a great choice. Room was very comfortable and of good size. As far as cleanliness, the rooms are kept clean. In saying that there are a few minor inconsistencies like the bathroom could be a bit more cleaner. Overall a great stay and value for money. We would definitely recommend it and we shall be booking it for our next holiday to Phuket again. Best wishes and Regards John and Priya
We stayed in this hotel for one week and we really had a great time. Not considering that the place is beautiful, what we really appreciated was the service and the stuff. The cleanings were great, the stuff was very friendly in particular the girl that followed us mostly, Kannika and the breakfast was complete and very varied (for all needs). The price is so good compared to che quality. We hope to get back there in the future!!
I went to Thailand for a March break with my teenage daughter. Kata Beach/Phuket was our first destination. I booked this hotel few months ahead. It was fully booked when we got there and early check in was not available, but they did everything to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We got room at noon after returning from the beach that is just 5 minutes walk down the hill. Our luggage was stored in the hotel while we enjoyed swimming in the warm sea, and the room was spacious with the balcony and an amazing ocean view. The corridor to the room was looking to the hill with the big buddha on the top of it. There was a bathtub on the balcony and I arranged with the hotel the bath with the rose petals, that was an unforgettable experience. We got some complimentary drinks every day in the fridge and fresh towels and bedding. We would definitely come again. It is a nice hotel.
Definitely a highlight of our trip to Phuket. Located on the hillside overlooking Kata beach, this is a such a lovely place to stay. Close enough to the beach to walk to it and many great restaurants, but nestled in the hill so when your there it feels secluded and peaceful. The pools are great with an amazing view of the mountains. You can clearly see the Big Buddha which is hike able from Sugar Grand (I did it in about 2 hours round trip.) But what truly makes this place incredible is the amazing staff who are so friendly and personable. I would stay here again just for them!
We stayed four nights at Sugar Palm. Bottom line: look for another hotel. Pros: - Lots of pools - View looking down Kata road and the beach. Cons: - Takes about ten minutes to get to the room - two elevators, stairs up a hill through what seems like a deserted area. - Breakfast was terrible - flies all around (why can't they just cover the fruits and veggies?). - Rooms are spacious but dirty - dust everywhere, cracks, spotted a big spider. - Staff weren't helpful - they couldn't help with tickets to a show or recommending laundry services in the area (there are lots of them). - They gave a coupon for one free cocktail (even though there were two of us) at Seventh Heaven, their rooftop bar which looks nice, but we were never able to redeem it or enjoy the bar. The two nights we tried they were closed or having a private party. - They offer a "free" shuttle to Palm Square and 'force' you to eat at their own restaurant. - This hotel is on a hillside, so you need to walk up/down a steep incline to reach the main road (and the beach).
Wow, where do I start. Really couldn't wait to get there but really can't believe how poor this hotel is. First off the late night 2 am front desk staff are nice. All of the restaurant workers are nice as well as the cleaning staff under their terrible management conditions. The daytime front desk clerks are terrible which all come from their really rude management team. Here we go. Before I booked the hotel I called to confirm king beds and no smoking rooms. THEY HAVE NO LARGE SIZE BEDS! They push two small beds together that are so uncomfortable you cannot sleep next to your partner, when I asked for a bed change the Mgr told me sorry no large beds and since I booked through Agoda too bad read the fine print. I can go on but won't. The pillows are old and tired. The room is filthy, the bathroom shower glass as well as the glass sink haven't ever been cleaned and have a thick layer of scum on them. Floors dirty. No extra towels! I asked for an extra towel they told me sorry we don't have enough for all so constantly had to call for fresh towels. NO TOWELS AT THE POOL. You bring the one from the room. The free mini bar is a joke. Yes a nice surprise when I got there a free beer and juice and soda a day, but if you don't drink your beer you don't get another one. The spa has been closed for repairs since 2015 the breakfast buffet in tiring and weak at best. The place needs a full makeover, It's on a hill and not great to get to after a long day. You need 2 elevators and walking to reach your room. 6 out of 14 days the elevators were out of service. I can keep going but I won't. The thing that really upset me is when I spoke politely to the head manager she basically told me. All customers paid money for their stay, read the fine print. You didn't book directly it's not our problem and became angry when I asked her to find a solution to my issues. In her mind the customer has no rights and she's doing me a favor by talking to me. Take my advice. DON'T STAY HERE. Now I realize they will probably reply to this with the standard....Sir we did all we could to fix your problem, seriously. do not believe them
I was excited about staying at this hotel because the previous reviews and photos of the grounds were great but when we got here, we were very disappointed. I will start with the positives: -My husband and I got to the hotel at 12am and made a mistake with our booking. We didn't have a room to stay in so the night staff took us and our luggage in the golf cart to other hotels in Kata Beach to find a room for the night. The person working that night was extremely kind and professional. -The pool provides great views, is beautiful and clean. -Location is great, it's very close to the main strip but far enough to be quiet at night. -Free minibar with 2 bottles of water, 1 can of orange juice, 1 can of coke, and 1 can of beer. Cons are: -The rooms are ok. They are a bit dirty, have bugs and there are paint chips and cracks in the wall. The bathtub was dirty with dead bugs so we never used it. -The commute to our room was so long, it took about 7-10 minutes to get from the hotel lobby to our room. If you have a room on the higher floors, it has a nice view but prepare for a long walk with 2 elevator transfers and lots of stairs. -The staff during the day is not helpful or even that nice. There was one staff member who would ask us questions about our day and then laugh mockingly at our answers, it was very odd. We asked the staff about transfers to the airport and they basically told us we need to bring our luggage down the hill and get a cab. -The hotel grounds as a whole is worn out, there are paint chips, cracks in the building and rusty metal everywhere. -Wifi isnt that stable, constantly logs you out. -Breakfast is overpriced, I would go to the Italian cafe right down the hill for better and cheaper breakfast
Nice ideea for a hotel, But this place need a lot of improvements. It is a problem with cleaning. Also the staff do not speak english or another foreign language. The Beach is Close, But It is ugly. You need to Take a car for a nice Beach or to go with a Both
