Just had another great stay at the Sugar palm. Once again the staff at this resort are all extremely helpful and courteous. From the General Manager to the man who carry's your bags they are all great. The location of the resort is fantastic, the rooms great and the pool access room is a must. I am an unashamed fan of this resort and cannot recommend it highly enough.
Three nights here in April, bad mistake. Poor quality rooms with concrete fittings? Smelly lift and low quality food. Location is good, but that's about it. Don't believe any ratings over 2/3 I'd never go back.
We stayed at this hotel for one night only and it was great experience. We had pool access room (which I would definitely recommend) and it was fantastic. You enter pool on the 7th floor from your balcony! The room was spacious and comfortable. The shower/bathroom were very good. It had large shower cabin and large bath - all in very good condition. Two sinks were actually in the room, not in the bathroom. Aircon worked very well. The breakfast was very good for Thai standards. We stayed in a few hotels in Thailand and they all about the same. The view from this hotel is fantastic. Location is very good too: 5 min walk to the center on Kata resort and about the same to the main Kata beach, but I would recommend to go to Kata Noi beach, which is 15 min walk to the left of the hotel. That beach is much better. This hotel is located on a very steep hill and a lot of steps involved to get to a higher floor, so if you have problem walking hills and steps, it is probably not for you. Otherwise, for the price you pay, it's a very good choice.
Very hard to review this Hotel as it could be very good with some general maintenance, cleaning upkeep etc. The hotel is ideally located in central Kata. The last 100 meters to the hotel is on a very steep incline and would not be suitable for anybody with a walking impairment however we had no trouble. Reception is good with friendly staff. We booked 2 Pool Acess Rooms and this where the disappointments began. On being shown to our room we were not given any information relative to the safe, a/c, room making service switch etc. had to work it out ourselves and with some friendly assistance from housekeeping. We were not made aware that the 1 orange juice, 1 beer and 1 Pespsi in the fridge were complimentary until the last day. Shame if we both wanted the same. Wifi was non existent throughout our stay in both rooms. This caused difficulties for myself in trying to keep in touch with our businesses in Laos. We were given a VIP connection to try but this did not work any better. The TVs in both rooms were useless with continual no signal on half the channels and poor reception on the balance. The technician came on 2 occasions but could not fix. The Assistant Manager (Very nice lady) told us on the third complaint that the Hotel was in negotiations for a new provider and until then there would be little or no reception. Unbelievable when paying big bucks for a room. The Pool Access was very nice with a beautiful pool spolit to some degree by a. Collapsing ceiling above us and Stainless Steel railings covered in rust. The bathroom is of a generous size with an excellent rain shower. The toilet continually leaked water from the bottom seal onto the floor. The rooms were advertised as double beds when they are in fact not. They are 2 single beds pushed together which made sleeping in the middle not possible due to the large crack. Advertising as double bed is misleading as we would not have booked here if we had known. Breakfast was very basic. Bulk cold fried eggs, chicken sausage and bacon for westerners with a bigger selection for asians. The very noticeable thing of the breakfast was the very grubby Bay Marie's from which you serve and the view into the kitchen of dirty walls etc. nothing a good clean wouldnt solve. There is no on site restaurant for those wanting to eat at the Hotel. A complimentary shuttle is usually available at fixed times to take guests to Palm Square which offers a number of restaurants. There is a small room service menu available for snacks but no bar service available throughout the day which is unbelievable. You need to go down the street to buy your own drinks and bring them back. There is a cocktail bar on the 7th floor which opens at 5pm with lovely views Nice attentive staff however with no shade or atmosphere hardly the place to spend a couple of hours. All in all a disappointing experience. It really appears that the owner/operator is trying to cut costs on general maintenance and cleaning in an effort to improve profit. Whilst there my brother needed to go to the hospital. In lieu of all the rooms problems we had the Assistant Manager insisted that we have a complimentary transfer to the hospital. That was very much appreciated. Hard to recommend.
Stated in 4 resorts over 2 weeks and this was the best by far. Friendly and helpful staff. Great rooms and pool. Great location. Nearby restaurants include the Red Chiili 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. Plenty to do in the area.
This is a great hotel in a great location. The rooms are lovely, very clean and new. The bed was really comfy and the room and balcony was spacious. We had an awesome uninterupted view of the ocean. We were on the 8th floor in one of the cheapist rooms. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The breakfast wasn't a huge selection but plenty to start the day without lots of wastage. We didn't use the pool very much. Its a bit of a mish to get to from the rooms and we found kata beach to be lovely and spent most of our time on the beach. I would suggest letting the hotel organise your transfer from the airport. We took a taxi and he took us to the wrong hotel on the wrong beach after clearly saying he knew the hotel. It took us over 2 hours to get to the hotel and actually ended up costing more. The hotel said this happens often. We would definitely choose to stay at this hotel again if we ever came back to Phuket. Value for money was outstanding for what you got.
The hotel was in a good location in Kata as it was just by the main road which was walking distance from the beach, shops, bars, restaurants and taxi. Our room was lovely and had amazing views from our balcony with a bathtub jacuzzi. It had everything we could have asked for in a room. There was a fridge which had water, orange juice, pepsi and beer which were replenished for free daily. The staff that we encountered at the hotel were all great especially Jily who we also saw a few times at Palm Square. He was able to tell us some places worth visiting which was great and was always so accommdating. The breakfast wasnt great so we only had it about 3 out of our 7 days. It was cold and wasnt to our liking. I had thought that there was a restaurant and spa in the hotel however there wasnt. We were advised to visit Palm Square which was a short walking distance which had restaurants, bars and a spa. We visited here a few times and the hotel was kind enough to arrange for a driver to drive us down there and collect us which was great. We used the jacuzzi on our final night which we were slightly disapponted in and it didnt bubble amd was extremly loud. All in all it was an enjoyable stay and was worth the money we spent.
Sugar Palm Grand Hillside Kata was a great choice! Only five minutes walk from beautiful Kata beach and many of the delicious food options available. Our room was clean and well maintained daily. We had a lovely little balcony with gorgeous views over the ocean. The staff could not have been more kind and helpful. Marc and the front of house were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for Marc. He is the consummate professional! He made our stay at Sugar Palm even more wonderful. We would stay there again.
We really liked this hotel for a few reasons. The people who work here are very friendly and helpful, and we liked the atmosphere. We didn't have a room with a view, it was on the second floor and our balcony looked onto the lobby and parking lot, but we didn't spend much time in our room, so it wasn't a problem, and it was very quiet there. And they kept their property spotless. The rooms are a very good size, and we have no complaints, its not a brand new hotel, but it has a more modern feel than a lot of other places we stayed at in Thailand. We didn't do the breakfast package, so can't comment on the food, but there are so many places around there that you can eat at. We loved the location, straight down a hill through the busy streets at Kata, and you arrive at the most beautiful beach and waters, about a 5-10 min walk. But if climbing stairs or hills is an issue, this may not be the place for you, because it is quite a steep climb. We also loved that it was about a 15 min walk to Kata Noi Beach. It has very pretty swimming pools, and the gardens are lovely. We would come back here again.
Once a successful stay in this hotel. This was our third visit. Good location near the beach. Good breakfast. Housekeeping was good .Very good service will specifically mention Mark. He speaks perfect English and do everything to make your stay to be perfect. We would recommend this hotel to others Trond fra Norge
