We have just returned from our last destination and stay at the Sugar Marina Art in Karon. First impressions of the hotel upon arrival: - Looks quirky and modern - Staff were friendly upon arrival - You were given a welcome icecream the minute you stepped through the door. This was a nice gesture however we are human and not octopus' therefore do not have an arm to sign the documents and arm to take luggage and arm to eat before the icecream melts everywhere and a hand to take the key. - There was no help with our luggage upon our arrival however we were escorted to our room which didn't make sense - The pool online and in picture looks much wider than it actually is Above were my first impressions and most of which the hotel can improve on should they choose to! Especially with the luggage!! People are likely to tip also if this service was offered however for people who have had a long day travelling, no offer is quite rude. Especially for people with children I imagine this could be a bit of a nightmare as we had to cross a road to get to our room from reception... Breakfast: The layout of the breakfast was very unusual. You had to walk to one side of the restaurant for continental and the other for what was meant to be a hot breakfast, this didn't really make any sense layout wise. In regards to the food, pastries were very nice and pretty much all I ate. They did have a nice selection of fruit however was the same every day. They had an egg station where eggs were prepared in advance, they were cold without a runny yolk. When i asked the cook for 2x fresh fried eggs i went through 4 people to ask this question as no one could understand me!! This was a very simple request, one of which i thought the F & B manager would have no issue in understanding. This was quite embarrassing for me. The only other English option they had was bacon. This was often empty and cold. There was also only one choice of cheese which looked very cheap! One thing that did stand out to me during the breakfast service was the number of girls working wearing training on their uniform. It would be interesting to know how long many of those girls had worked at the hotel as they all seemed very confident with the job they was doing. It makes me want to ask the question... are they being kept as trainees to keep them on a lower wadge???! This did look blindingly obvious to me! Meanwhile, we had a swim up room and the pool was always rammed with kids playing outside of our room screaming and splashing. Great fun for the kids, not so much the adults who just wanted to relax. The mini bar in our room was restocked every day which was very good however often only with one bottle of water, one cola, and one snickers. This comes across very tight as there are two people staying in the room? Sometimes it's best not to offer anything at all. In the middle of our stay a BIG problem did occur!! We arrived back at our room at around 2300 to be welcomed back by a flooded room of about 2 inches high. LUCKILY none of our electronics were on the ground neither were any of our other belongings!!! The leak was coming from a split pipe in the bathroom and water was gushing out. I quickly rang reception and they sent about 5 guys to clear it up which took about 35 minutes. The guys were very prompt and efficient!! During this time i made my way to reception and asked what was happening, did we have to stay in the room or not? they gave me a key for a room without a swim up room on the level above and said you can use this one. I said i will have to speak to my partner as we have got alot of bags that have been unpacked (which again we had no help or offer to take to the new room so late at night!! Plus the lift had broken!!) We left it at that and went to bed. The next morning, i woke up around 0800 to go and speak to the manager on duty. I was in the bathroom and i heard voices behind the door. A man had burst straight through the door and the bathroom door whilst i was in the bathroom indecent!! Our belongings were still in the room and the bathroom light was on and he didn't even knock!! He claimed he had come to check the leak. I ended up speaking to the operations manager as at this point i was very very angry. She was very apologetic and her eyes nearly popped out of her head when i had told her about the fiasco! She offered to refund for one night. I wasn't happy with this due to the circumstances and the fact that if our electronics would have been damaged there would have been a bill for 1000's. In the end and after going backwards and forwards all day, we was offered a refund for two nights the option to change rooms to another swim up room and a fruit platter. The operations manager was very good at her job and made me feel very comfortable. However everyone else in this situation was useless, other than her and the guys who had cleared the water up. It had ruined our last few days and I was so fed up and upset. If it wasn't for the operations manager dealing with this in the way she did i would have given just two stars. The rooms are big and the bed is comfortable however giving a good and correct service doesn't cost anything and maybe more training needs to be given to the front of house staff in order for them to know how to react in situations like this when managers arent there. Overall I wouldn't chose to stay here again however for the price it is reasonable if you are on a budget. It caters for families and not couples or single travellers. Full of rude guests who do not know how to que and are extremely rude to staff, something us Brits cannot stand to be around! The only real pro out of staying here is the location! In the centre with shops and restaurants all around.

A modern hotel with a unique touch of design. Huge beds and comfy rooms. Quite clean. Bathroom had a bath and shower. Pool looked cool too however did not make use of it. Huge variety at breakfast - it was one of the best. It is located in a side road just a few minutes away on foot from the beautiful Karon Beach.

The locatin is great. Near by bars and restaurants and 150 meters to the beach. Great breakfast, and the service is very good to. The room is a okay size. A good big size bed. But there where no closet. There is 2 pool areas. A big and a small.

I stayed just for 2 nights, because it wasn't available for more, but it was really excellent. The room with the pool view is large, quite, and fully equipped. Obviously there are some small issues to fix as it is normal in a holiday resort. But the welcome at the reception was very appreciated, they offered ud an ice cream. In the room there are all that you need and the minibar is included and free refilled every day with a coke 1 beer a snack some water and a fruit juice. My room had both : large shower and the bath tub. The balcony at the end of the day was very nice to relax after the shower. The breakfast is very good and with any kind of food. And last but not least, the personnel is so kind and amable. Highly recommended.

The hotel has two wings and only shows pictures of the new one. - We stayed in the old one and it was rather disappointing. I booked the room with pool view and they put us in a back room with pool view from the neighbor hotel. - Breakfast was diverse but lacked basic western ingredients, such as different types of cheeses. - The bedroom was ok in comfort and the mini bar is free, which is really nice but it was in a desperate need of some fresh painting with scratched walls. - location was nice and the pool is quite nice but the layout is odd. You are basically swimming facing other guest's balconies...hard to explain! - I can still recommend, but set the right expectation and don't let the pictures fool you! - Reception staff can barely speak English, that was rather disappointing.

My boyfriend and I went on a vacation to Karon Beach. We stayed at Sugar Marina ART because of the location. When we got into our room, we immediately noticed the mold in the shower and all over the bathroom, It was disgusting. I don’t think they clean the rooms, they just make the bed and the covers did not smell pleasant. We asked for a room in the renovated area so either they lied or that is the renovated area... we would not return, and would recommend a different place.

We recently stayed here for 4 nights. Check in was good, staff were friendly, and one girl showed us to our room, explaining the hotel as we went, which was helpful, as it is quite a big hotel. The room itself is small and compact and you have a mini bar which is filled daily and free including 1 ca of Coca Cola, Chang, 2x bottles of water and a snickers bar. This was a nice touch. Our room backed on to the back of a street, with a view of a water tank, see pic. There was a car park which could be easily accessed by the balcony which made us feel a little unsafe. The hotel is in a good location, close to bars, restaurants massage parlours and tour agencies and only 5 minutes from Karon beach. Due to the hotels close proximity to bars and restaurants, the room was quite noisy, and we could hear rats crawling around outside.

We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of Dec and as previous reviews state the hotel is ok but it is a great location just off the Main Street near all of the bars restaurants and the beach. We got upgraded to a pool access room which was lovely and the mini bar was free. The rooms are nice and clean and have everything you need. The pool area isn’t the nicest or most relaxing it is AstroTurf rather than grass and there aren’t a great deal of beds, the actual pool was mostly in shade too but beds in the sun.

We stayed here for 10 nights in December. Plus: + the room – we stayed at the 4th floor, with pool and sea view and it was really nice, tidy and clean + breakfast – varied, vegetarian friendly, with a lot of fresh fruits + pool – clean, warm water + good price for what the hotel offers + the minibar is always refilled with water, orange juice, coke, beer, snickers bar and it doesn’t cost a thing + every room has umbrellas, a beach bag, beach mat for 2 people and big beach towels so don’t bother bringing them from home + location Minus: - even if the hotel advertises that it has 4 stars, it is actually a 3 star hotel, but this is a common thing in Thailand - front desk staff – we only interacted when checking-in and checking-out; there were always 3 people at the front desk and no one ever said hello or answered to a hello, they simply talked in Thai to one another - cleaning staff – they woke us up 2 mornings in a row because they were arguing and banging the cart with cleaning supplies; the other mornings we were already up but the same thing was happening: the ladies argued with one another and causing a lot of commotion

If you can avoid this, make sure you do! On arrival at the hotel, the receptionists were very unwelcoming. They offered no assistance in taking the luggage to the room, well aware they could see I was struggling with an infant in one hand and 3 suitcases. The room itself was disgusting and smelt of urine. It was unbearable going into the bathroom. Shower didn’t work and was full of mould. The baby cot was old and worn. He wifi in the room would connect for only 10 minutes and then disconnect with no luck of connecting again. The breakfast was nice and that’s why I would give it one star. It is a shame that they don’t maintain the hotel. It is however in a nice area with local amenities. If you do stay, Apparently there is a new block and an old block. Try and stay in the new building. Or even better look elsewhere!
