Have been to this hotel numerous times I've the years. The location is great with the beach across the road, markets out the back, Bangla road and Jungceylon all a short walking distance (10-15 min). This hotel used to be great, but has been let down by it's customer service and facilities are getting dated.
So just spent new year here The Hotel is a welcome break from the concrete jungle of Pattong the pool areas are lovely and tropical and pool service is excellent however the sunbeds were a bit hard we had a room facing the street which was really noisy but was ok rooms are adequate and have everything you need the food was lovely i would never chose to go back to Pattong but if i had to i would stay here again
Have just got back 30th December 2017 after spending 2 weeks at this hotel. We had a delux room 7413 view not good but could see the sea and was quite.Room was a good size had bath and separate shower cleaned every day. Breakfast something for everyone. Location of this hotel is great walking distance to everything Patong Beach has to offer . considering this is a 3/4 Star hotel with 4 pools I would say don't worry about the negative reviews it's a great hotel . I have travelled the world stayed in 5 Star luxury hotels and I would definitely stay there again. Staff are polite and helpful. We went to the Christmas Eve Gala Dinner at the Hotel the food was very good
This hotel is situated in a perfect location with close proximity to the beach and markets. Staff are very helpful and accommodating however we experienced cold water in our shower on most days and the day we complained the water returned to hot however the next day we faced the same problem. The pools are lovely and the atmosphere is very relaxed. I would definitely return here!
Have been coming to Patong for years and have always wanted to try this hotel. Finally did and I would never stay here again. A new club has opened only a few meters down the road and now I am laying in bed at 1:30am wide awake listening to the doof door music. Not my idea of a relaxing holiday. I now need to deal with two kids in the morning after no sleep. If you choose to stay here, bring ear plugs. Apart from the noise, hotel is old but clean. No lift available and staying on top floor (level three) with a baby in a pram. Not practical.
First time visitors to Thailand and stayed at the Patong Merlin. Staff were great from the second we arrived. We were very pleased with the room and yes a stunning view would have been perfect but our balcony and view was fine which faced the pool but behind a tree line. Air con was brilliant... comfy massive bed and a great shower with ever flowing hot water. If I had one gripe it would be the WiFi but I am really being picky but feel in this day and age of sharing experiences is a big thing with today’s travellers and should be very easy low cost fix. We loved the hotel and the pools were great they were Clean and quite quiet when we visited in October. There was one area under the waterfall that needs some TLC for sure but once again I am being open with my thoughts and trying to give a warts and all feedback. Breakfast followed the same pattern every day but it was good and there was lots of it.... I am sure most would find it great for filling the hump before setting off for the day. We did not use the restaurants in the evening as the appeal out and about was too great for us it is also a bit more expensive which I know puts people off, if the pricing was a little more like it is on the strip they would capture a lot more custom from within and also passing holidayers.... this imo would create a great vibe and a place to be as the food looks great and the setting is perfect The location is just far enough away from the bustle of the street but yet a short stroll to be within the thick of it It is also just across the road from Patong beach it’s self too. Just perfect for those that love beach wallowing In conclusion Hotel 9/10. Always room for improvements Location 9/10. It was great for us but the drop of 1 point as no doubt people would like to be in the heart of the party Reception staff 10/10 they were spot on Restaurant staff 8.5/10. Maybe it’s a communication thing and maybe it’s their job not to however there was very little connection with us as guests Cleaning Staff..... I am gonna break the logic and give 15/10. They were a credit to the hotel and also Thailand it’s self. Could not do enough for you and they work so hard. Hope this is an open unbiased review and to be taken as our opinion based on the price we paid and class of hotel it is... We are all booking to go back next year at the hotel with relatives this time so I am putting money where my mouth is. I have given a 5 tick rating as I feel knocking them down for the little niggles would be un-just and as with all places there will always be room for improvment
Reading some of the reviews below its interesting to see different experiences, I guess until you have experienced a BAD hotel on the same day perhaps expectations differ & that's understandable,however for us a family of six with kids aged 12/14/16 our 10 days here in December 2017 was faultless. We had booked into a hotel close by via booking.com SIGNATURE BOUTIQUE PATONG looked great on the website came up in a recommended search on booking.com, I will leave that experience & story for a seperate review but needless to say we walked out before spending a night there. Lucky for us we walked into the Merlin and were greeted with smiling helpful faces everywhere. What a difference from the start. We explained our situation & they allowed us to view the rooms first, we went for two interconnecting rooms. Initially they could not allocate those rooms for the full 10 days over this Xmas period as they had been booked out for Xmas day. However a very helpful Manager decided to upgrade the original occupants in order to allow us to stay put for the 10 days. The complex was amazing four pools to choose from, all with super friendly staff, our rooms were clean nice size & quiet facing the first pool. The maid service was second to none, beds completely stripped EVERY day with fresh linen such a courteous lady. Walking down for breakfast staff you pass say good morning with smiles, breakfast amazing a variety to suit all. Fruit salads, pancakes, egg stations for every variety, continental breakfast, Asian breakfast, juices etc. This set us up for the day. It was my wife's birthday on the 20th Dec, we returned to the room to find a birthday cake with candles & a note from management wishing her a Happy Birthday. What a nice touch I guess they get the date from the passports. While the Internet in the rooms at times was a little slow, sitting in the main foyer had good wifi. Apart from checking email, Facebook etc. we were on holiday so didn't have the need for gaming speeds! Christmas Eve we returned to find a Christmas stocking placed on the beds filled with fancy cookies another thoughtful touch. Another bonus check out not until 12.00 so on our last day as we were not getting picked up until 4pm, the management offer complimentary shower rooms to freshen up We had ran out of spending on the last day but had 3/4 bottles of beer we had bought from day before. I asked the staff if they minded I drink these in the foyer were we were waiting & while there policy is no outside drinks to be drunk in there cafe area,with a smile they permitted this. We all left feeling we had experienced the best holiday, we will definitely be coming back to the Merlin. a lot must have changed as those older reviews 2012 are just not valid now they must of had a change in management over time as we could not fault our experience
The front office staff is friendly & helpful. The restaurant & cleaning staff is super attentive. The room was always very clean & the temperature pleasantly regulated by the constant air-conditioner. Wi-Fi was adequate, but not super fast, making video calls was possible. The room has all the necessities with decent refrigerator. The location could not be better, as the main entrance is on the busiest main road through Patong Beach & the opposite entrance gives direct access to the beach. Right next to the HardRock Cafe, which has some really good vibes going. The restaurant serves really well balanced & complete breakfast, just lacking salmon. This is really good value for money & great for location. 5 Pools to cool you down, even has pool-bar.
Firstly, if you are travelling and need/want wifi, DO NOT stay here. Been here 2 nights so far and both mornings reception have told me "IT man is coming" then an hour later wifi is OK again, but by night its broken again. Beds are hard and uncomfortable, but pillows comfortable. Doors and windows you can tell are older and don't match the quality of restaurants and pools. Aircon is noisy and also old. breakfast is very expensive but does have a good variety. The staff are useless at speaking English, says on their site that they can, but honestly they can't. makes a simple question not even worth asking. Also cant even order a dinner without something being wrong, due to them not understanding me. Rooms smell of mould and dampness, and this is not just our room... people talk!! I have been going to sleep around 8:30 because I'm so tired, and all I can hear is some ridiculous band in the lobby singing every night. Sounds awful and no one is even there listening to them??? Also don't expect to have a sleep in if your room is near the lobby and breakfast area. Have woken up every morning at 5.55 am to them rolling plates around and setting up breakfast. SO inconsiderate. Could defiantly not talk as loud and set up in a more orderly manner. Hotel is close to everything yet still no traffic noises. Beach isn't the nicest though, water is so dirty and cant even lie on the beach without people trying to sell me something. it ranges from bloody table cloths to musical instruments. The streets are very dirty and people are annoying and RUDE. If staying here I would recommend a pool view room at least, but then again I wouldn't recommend staying here at all. I will not be returning to this hotel and I don't think ill return to Thailand either.
We stayed here for 7 nights and we really loved it. Pools and garden were extremely beautiful and clean. Our pool view room was big, without any noise and with easy access to pool and garden area. Breakfast had a nice variety to choose from and all were very delicious. This hotel is about 15 minute walk to Jungceylon shopping mall and Bangla road and the road is full of shops and restaurants so its not boring to walk every day. The beach is at most about 3-4 minute walk from your room. The only disadvantage was very very weak wireless internet.
