Myself and 5 other friends were booked into this hotel for 6 nights in a 2 week trip to Thailand. On arrival you are welcomed with a fresh drink, a fresh towel and your bags are taken to your room for you. The rooms were cleaned each day with fresh towels provided. 4 pools to choose from kept us busy trying to find the best one. Pool towels are offered. From the hotel main entrance and reception turn left and you have the Hard rock and Hooters, restaurants. Further up the road is shops and eventually Bangala Walking Street. Easiest way to access Bangala Walking Street (where the nightlife is), is to walk past the pools and to the back of the hotel. You can either follow the road parallel to the beach and walk 10mins or get a Tuk Tuk for around 200baht. (Found it less hassle than leaving via the front of the hotel). The WiFi during the day wasn’t great if I’m honest. However, as it is my job to work with technology like this, I understand its limitations. During the day lots of people try to access it and it is slow (WiFi by nature is) during the evening and night it is far more responsive due to less people trying to access it. WiFi is free throughout the hotel and can be accessed in the rooms as well. Given the size of the complex I thought that this was a good free service. My one small down side to this hotel. The morning we had to check out we found a cockroach in the bathroom. These aren’t uncommon in Thailand and we are not sure how it got there but please do not let that distract you from how nice this hotel was! We spoke to the reception desk and someone was immediately sent up to remove it. Advice from the hotel is to ensure that the bath and sink plugs are always closed when not in use. The hotel does offer you to keep the room for a small charge if your check out time isn’t til later on. However this wasn’t an option for us as it was fully booked. Instead, the hotel does offer a shower room for you to use before your onward travel.
First up don't get confused with the two "Merlin" resorts in Patong. There is another hotel called the Marriott on Merlin Beach some ten minutes away which Google Maps likes to direct you too. Aside from the error of being booked in the incorrect hotel, this little gem turn out ok. It's not quite in Patong, and the resort is located next to the main bus terminal which starts at 5am until mid afternoon. If it's not the buses waking you up it might be the party ravers returning to their room in the early hours of the morning. Still the staff where very friendly but the property needs some maintenance. The internet is terrible! I had to purchase my own internet as one could hardly ever use the slow wifi throughout the property. The fitness room equipment is dated and some equipment items were out of order - which I expect could still be some months later???? Food was nice but you wouldn't want to spend more than 5 nights here. Same breakfast buffet menu each day. Some daily specials would have been a refreshing change. The room service was great should you be stuck not leaving the room for 24hours. Pool service was a little slow on asking if you would like anything. Overall an easy getaway, relaxing getaway with excellent housekeeping!
My husband and I spent 9 nights at Patong Merlin hotel for our honeymoon. It was a great central location, walking beach to the main shops, Bangla Rd and the beach. The breakfast buffet was great, always lots of options. They have about 4 swimming pools to choose from and they were all really beautiful. We had pretty good food during our stay and the staff were reasonably helpful and polite. We were particularly fond of he beautiful ladies that came through to clean our room daily, they were so lovely and such hard workers. Our only real complaints were that our room was located at the front of the premises and it was extremely loud next door to Hard Rock Cafe. The music goes on until early hours of the morning and although we did see if there was another room available we were unable to move rooms. The wifi is also terrible but all in all we really did enjoy our stay.
My boyfriend and I had been on holiday in Thailand, visiting several islands and cities. Our last stay was at this hotel and we planned to relax and enjoy the beach. Regarding the pools, location and the breakfast at this hotel, it was perfect. BUT the staff, 90% of the time, were very rude and the food by the pool was very average. We also had to pay a 5000 baht deposit, which was so inconvenient and other hotels we stayed at in Thailand, which were amazing, only asked for 1000/2000 baht. The wifi also just did not work at all. It was a shame our last hotel in Thailand was the dramatically worse.
I would highly recommend this resort, it’s a beautiful oasis in crazy Patong Beach. Rooms are quiet with good access to pools, 4 big pools with lots of beds to relax on. Location is good also, lovely tropical gardens. Great stay, for a few days.
We spent 6nights here, building seven second floor overlooking pool. No noise from Hard Rock Cafe, but out the front it can be quite noisy. Breakfast was excellent, good selection of food. You can walk right through to the beach also, and lots of market stalls if you go the other way. Central to everything.
Hotel is in a great location. Rooms are good. We had a delux room with great walk in shower. Great sound proofing, as it drowned out the terrible voice & noise from the hard rock next door. The only thing that ticked us off was the fact you had to pay for the bottle of water in our room on arrival. Breakfast is great... fill your boots & it will keep you going for most of the day. The beach is just across the road. 1- of you want to do the Phuket city tour use a taxi driver at the hotel. For. 1000 Bart they will take you everywhere & wait for you. Big Buddha Chalong palace We went early in the morning to beat the crowds 7.30 am 2- James Bond Island tour is a must with Sea marina tours. Fantastic day. 3 - phi phi island tour. We did the early bird. Personally they pack to much in to the day. A lot of on off on off the boat. Monkey island was the best bit, we actually got to see some monkeys. 4- patong beach. Very disappointed they have ruined a beautiful beach. The sea is not clear due to the silt from all the boats. All the cruise ships dock their. Jet ski all day. The sad bit is all the dead fish, plastic bags & bottle tops we found on the beach. If you have not bean to Thailand before then Phuket is a great place to visit to see the crazy side of Thailand.
This hotel option was recommended to us by friends who visit there quite frequently throughout the year so trusted their reviews. We visited and stayed here twice on separate occassions. First time was with my partner. We enjoyed our stay, freat breakfast buffet and the variety was not limited. Food was also good quality standard. Only ate there for breakfast and all other meals we were out and about. The house keeping was great, no faults there. What was great about this location was it catered for a variety of groups young groups and couples, family with kids aswell as the retiree couples. We were there in the Monsoon month of July just under two weeks. It hardly rained although when it did it was just showers which didnt last long and seemed to help cool you down from the humidity. We enjoyed our stay that we convinced group of friends to return with us again couple years later in 2011 (total 6 of us). Felt the same positive vibes as we did our first visit. We utilised the pool more, we didnt so much use the hotel entertainment organisers but a one of the local vendors around the corner as they were way cheaper even including their service commission. Overall would recommend to anyone that wants a relaxing time there bathing at the pools, enjoy a solid meal at the breakfast buffet and in mins by foot to shopping, takeaways, night attractions etc than this is the place for you.
+++ 4 pools with lots of deck chairs, verdant vegetation (palms, etc.) If you watch the area with Google Maps Satellite you will notice that Patong Merlin Hotel has one of the biggest pool areas at the area. ++ Breakfast, I really enjoyed the diverse of it + Good basic rooms + Location, a short walk to Jungceylon and Bangla road for example - Too much noise at the rooms (Sounds from corridor, doors closing, etc.) - Cleaning staff had annoying telephones at the corridor which rang every now and then.... just why? - When we used "make up room" sign we just got a paper that they tried to clean the room earlier when there was "do not disturb" - Didn't hear too much "good morning" and stuff like that from the staff - We arrived to hotel around 10-11am from TUI's flight and we got the room as late as 15pm. Luckily we got beach towels and took swimming shorts from the case and head to pool area to wait but we were exhausted after the long flight. Overall I can recommend this hotel. Minuses weren't just that bad, just the small things. The building did seem rather old.
The room cleaning is really good, and overall the hotel is nice and tidy. Average buffet breakfast, but very good food at the hotel restaurant. Patong itself is chaotic, but the hotel is perfect for relaxing by the pool. Sometimes it´s a little hard to find sunchairs by the pool because people leave their stuff on the unattended sunbeds even though it is forbidden, but that´s not the hotel´s fault since there are clear signs everywhere. The biggest part of the staff is nice and kind, even though sometimes it´s hard to communicate because of their English. Despite the room being pretty well isolated, you can hear all the noises and voices coming from the hallway through the door. It has a few flaws, like everything, but I would recommend it!
